Yep. Clean or replace. Clean and then evetually need to replace... Or Replace just to eventually need a clean... Aaargh.

Friendly independent Skoda garage has taken a look at the codes and apparently they all point at the Throttle Body (£197 to replace) Anyone got any experience of this as a common fault? Is replacement the way to go? Matt.

So 45 miles from home this comes on. Doesn't the exclamation mark makes you feel good... The Exhaust Control System light stays on. But no noticeable change in performance, i.e. no limp home mode. Any takers as to what this may be? Incidentally I don't have access to VCDS. But coincidentally I did stall it, yesterday. If DPF, then Shark here I come!!!

+1 ^ Bearings worth checking too, I had a bearing rumbling at 40K. Hunter Alignment check made the biggest difference!

Yeah I see where you are at. I didn't remove the motor. I did remove the casing (beware the finger pain...) then worked with a T10 torx screwdriver from the top to get the base off including the indicator. IIRC the casing and the indicator locate together so you may need to take the casing off first. Does that help?

Just out of interest, what tyres were they on?

Done! Firmware upgraded to 3814. Thanks for all the help and info recieved; KBPhoto you pointed me in the right direction, adamal are the man in the know!!! Cheers! During this learning curve.. or learning cliff; I have taken advantage of many opportunities to air my satnav inexperience. So I do appreciate everyones patience... A lot! I am now looking to upgrade the maps to v9 inc speed cameras (7920). Anyone willing to recommend a reliable source of supply? Matt.

My advice, for what it's worth... I bought my octy, noticed the noise and as it was my first estate, checked on here for some good gen. Had the Hunter alignment done. Swapped the fronts to the back. No joy. Citroen garage where i bought the car said "It's an estate! That's what they do!!" But no with only 40k on the clock it was a bearing. Always worth a check.

Dear Illuminocty, I have spent the last few nights but don't tell SWMBO, and days, but don't tell the boss, looking into upgrading the firmware and then maps in my Columbus. In a 58 pre-FL I've got a 1Z0xxxxxA unit with FW 1004. So you can see why I want to upgrade! Got some good info from members on here, (Cheers Karl), but reading into it on my-gti it seems a lot less straight forward. How far 'up to date' can I reliably go with the FW and Maps? When or even why does my revision 'A' change to something else? Oh and of course what are my chances of bricking it. Cheer in advance for any info. Matt.

My Octy, 58 pre-facelift, has 18" neptunes, original spec equipment. And they look goooood. Really fill the arches now it's lower too...

On my Octy if you have the lights on or auto lights activated, the headlamps get washed. If the lights are off they don't get washed. Which I thought was a cool idea! Surely not another thing that isn't common? Although I do like to amuse myself by 'accidentally' spraying the general public... With screenwash!
