  1. Also just cropped up on my Dec 2023 e-TEC .... will watch with interest
  2. No big surprise, about an hour after posting this I had another apologetic email to say 2034 is an error, should be 2025!
  3. Had a quick reply from Skoda (2 hours 30 min) so that's quite impressive. Reinstalling seems to have done the trick and as far as I can see the hard reset did not lose data. 4. Had an email yesterday evening from noreply@Skoda connect.com headed "Škoda Connect: services have been deactivated".. Reads "Dear customer, Škoda Octavia Combi: Service(s) Service Scheduling Speed Notification Lock & Unlock Area Notification Vehicle Health Report Vehicle Status Honk & Flash Parking Position Driving Data Online Anti-Theft Alarm Breakdown Call Info Call deactivated on 20.08.2024 at 19:43. You can activate these services using the infotainment system in your vehicle at any time." Some seem to still be working on my phone e.g. lock /unlock.. Timing is weird - message is was sent apparently 2 hours UK time 1 hour Prague time BEFORE the deactivation. Anyone have any idea why this would have happened and where in the *?$+** infotainment is the reactivation ?? Steve
  5. thank you, I'll give it a try!
  6. Only because I haven't found a .pdf version either so far. They DO provide a paper manual but at quite a lot of points it's indicated that a topic can only be found in the digital version of the manual, and I haven't been able to find a way to take that out to the car while I am trying to figure something out.
  7. Thanks. I already had the online manual but don't see way to save an offline copy to use when out of wifi range. Anyway, finally figured out how to name the offroad locations, it appears it can only be done by saving as a favourite, when you can give it a name.
  8. Speed limit display on map has appeared anyway. Maybe I was sitting in area with no data? Does it get the info from GPS like previous one or camera reading signs?
  9. Having just acquired a November 2023 Octavia eTEC, I am having enormous trouble with the nav system, which compared to my previous Mk3 claims to be far cleverer than it really is. To start with I would like to put a copy of the digital manual on my ipad to read while looking at the damn thing but I can't find where to get a copy. A few basic facilitieis I am having issue with - I like to have the current speed limit displayed on the map, but can't see where to turn it on. A lot of places of significance to me (including my own house) don't have a standard street address, and having found it can't see way to edit it to replace the lat and long with a name. Simlarly how do you tell it to store a destination and categorise it as a favourite. Some of this is perhaps basic once you know where to look, but that's the first problem! Any pointers would be welcome!
  10. Apologies for a non-Octavia specific question but I have just acquired a Mk4 and had the impression from somewhere that it is possible to add destinations to the nav system without using the car's touchscreen, which is tedious if you have a lot to enter, and use the MySkoda app which I have on my Google pixel 7 phone. Is this in fact possible? I can't see a way to do it at present.
  11. Perhaps WaveyDavey can help with this.... I completely agree about not wanting lots of visible cable! I'm just about to acquire a late 2023 Octavia e-TEC SE L and have a Nextbase 312 dashcam in my current (2015) Octavia. I understand there is a "5th USB socket in the rear view to power it". Do I understand from your picture that it's actually in the mirror base (not the actual back of the mirror) and can you tell me where you get the little short cable with the right connector? The dashcam socket looks like the older USB mini type so I wonder if such a cable is even available.
  12. Thanks to everyone for the useful information. I've decided not to go for the PHEV in the end but have tried a late 23 demonstrator (<1000 miles) 1.5 e-TEC SE L. This has the optons I wanted on it and the dealer will take my current car (which has a lot of cosmetic damage and is coming up for maintenance and MoT shortly) at a "tolerable" price for a no hassle changeover, so that's what I'm going for.
  13. Discussed potential purchase at dealership yesterday, and was a bit shocked to be told that workshop cost for iV are higher than others - I think he said £230/hr vs £130, as well as being needed more frequently. Did I mis-hear?
  14. Thank you again. Octo, trying to get my head around the charging rates. Are you saying that regardless of what type of charger I'm plugged into, it will always take at least 3 hours to get 10kWh into the battery because that's all the car can accept? What's the significance of having a "16 amp cable" supplied? Also for the maintenance tips which just poped in! Surreyjohn, again thanks. The balance is going to shift a bit in future, and likely to be about 16 days a year when we are doing a 350 mile run on motorways, about 8 months a year UK local and 4 French local. Although the cost aspect is significant it's not the only factor I'm weighing up - it's likely to be the last car we buy and there are a couple of other aspects such as the likelihood of increased pressure against ICE vehicles over the next few years. Also the one I'm looking at has heated seats/windscreen/steering wheel, and the the idea of being able to warm it up while plugged in at home prior to getting in is appealing, but I don't know if that's possible with a non-electric car? Steve
  15. Bit more advice please! The car I'm looking at comes with a "16amp AC charge cable for wallbox/chargepoints (Mode 3)", a "10amp mains UK 3-pin charge cable (Mode 2)" and the battery is 13kwh, which I gather is the Octavia standard. Looking around the area I'm going to on an app called "electromap", there are quite a few public chargers at supermarkets and car parks. One car park is shown as having "22kw type 2" and "3.3kw Shuko" connections. If the car has zero miles left on the battery and is plugged into the 22kw socket, how long will it take to charge fully? Is the limitation the cable (16kw) so 13/16 hour = 49 mins? The pricing is apparently €3.0 hour for the charger use, plus €3.0 for parkin + 0.45€/kWh. So that would be €2.5 each for the charger use and parking, plus €5.85 for the electricity, for a total of €10.85 - call it €11.00. And if I were to use a domestic plug converter on the supplied UK plug and put it into 3.3kw "shuko" socket it will take 13/3.3 = 4 hours, and cost €12 + €12 + €5. 85 = €29.85 - call it €30.00. So I definitely don't want to do that! At the Intermarche supermarket a little further away, it's €1.38 for a charge plus €0.41 per kW/H, so €1.38 + €5.33 = €6.71 At the next supermarket (LIDL) it's a flat €0.33 per kWh, so only €4.29. So a huge range of prices depending on where you "fill up". Am I understanding this correctly?
  16. Looking at changing our 2015 Business trim diesel Octavia Estate, with an almost new Octavia iV estate as the likely replacement. The existing car has been extremely economical as it is Euro 6 compliant but was registerd in the period when diesels were still being encouraged, so has zero road tax. Our use pattern is mostly short UK domestic trips, but about 4 or 5 times a year a very long round trip to our place in France where again it's mostly short domestic trips. With the current Octavia we used to do it in one haul of about 1200 km, getting about 900 km (600 mi) on one tankful of diesel, averaging about 60mph and 43 mpg, nearly all on the autoroutes or motorways. So we were doing about 15000 miles a year, but half of that was on only perhaps 10 days a year. We now make an overnight stop each way. Looking at getting a very low mileage iV, and have found one which is from immediately prior to the recent facelift and has a good spec for us. We can charge on a domestic point overnight at home (don't have a dedicated charger at present). However there is no possibility of charging at our French property as parking is in a village car park not at the house. Does anyone have experience of making long trips across France in a PHEV, with limited facilities at the far end, who could give us advice on charging and refuelling strategies if we go that route? We don't want to extend the actual travel times by too much to accomodate slow electric charging and don't know what the compatibility of French public chargers is. Thanks in advance Steve
  17. I am having just the same issue so will watch with interest here. As a precaution I am carrying a spare battery in my wallet (not leaving it in the car!!) and checked out the way to open the door manually, which is not obvious from the manual.
