  1. Traded my vRS SE no.316 for a Roomster Scout last month, as I needed more space (family weekend 'mud-bus'). Spotted it at my local Liverpool dealer: It was 6mths old with 7k miles on the clock.. got them down to £9995 , they're just over £14k new. Gutted to see the SE go, but the Roomster is growing on me. It's a1.9tdi, 105hp - detuned version of the Fabia's engine. Bluefin/remaps etc are readily available too.. 130-40hp?
  2. Thanks for the comments. Looks like I'll have to clock up some miles and get used to the different clutch 'action'. Wish it could be adjusted though..
  3. Roomster Scout 1.9Tdi, July 2007, 7.5k miles High clutch action.. Anyone else noticed this on their car? Can be a nuisance in stop/start traffic. Had a word with my dealer's mechanic about it & he said they were all like that - something to do with the hydraulic clutch fitted to Roomsters, which can't be adjusted. He then took it for a test drive & passed it off as normal. Only had the car a week, after trading in my Fabia Vrs, so I'm comparing the clutch action with what I was used to - low, smooth and easy to drive.
  4. That's exactly what I asked the dealer - why would someone keep a car for only 2 months then get shut? Got two different explanations back off the dealer in return; 1. Owner wasn't pleased with the ride quality.. .. 2. Owner is 'well known' to the dealer & changes his cars like the wind.. must have plenty of cash to burn then. Wouldn't be surprised if this second hand SE (099) could be had for around
  5. They've got a second-hand SE (no.099) in Liverpool dealer, 3.5K miles on it and a screen price of
  6. I asked the same question a while ago on this thread. All I can think of is that it must be a legal thing - admission of a fault, together with liability etc. If they change over to the reduced diameter gasket at production.. the next step would be a recall on all the other EU4 cars out there - imagine the numbers involved.. skoda, vw, seat & so on. At the moment, they are keeping low-key on the stutter issue. Bet no-one was told about the 'phenomenon' prior to picking up their cars at time of purchase?
  7. There is a possibility of the 9mm gasket throwing up an emissions (engine symbol) warning light on the dash (EU4 cars).. although this seems to be a bit 'hit & miss' - some have reported it, whilst others have driven long distances with no side effects what so ever. You've got a point there about the MOT however. I thought the test only included for a pass/fail of the exhaust 'smoke' levels, throughout the rev range (diesel car test). Anyone know if the MOT also analyses the emissions content. Having debated over the pros & cons for some time, I'm going to have my LE booked in for the official SUK fix on this one, via dealer garage.
  8. There's a 'stutter' issue starting to develop over on the Limited Edition vRS thread. With the amount of debate going on, people are starting to form an opinion on a DIY approach to solving this problem.. With all the scare stories about invalidating warranties - would a DIY 14.5mm EGR gasket install be 'out of the question?' Dealer opinion and fix's seem a bit 'hit & miss' - after a stutter is reported to them.
  9. I had the 9mm gasket on my previous vRS for 2 months with no warning light (right until I part ex'ed). Note that I also had the cupra intake with a K&N element on the car at the same time. Whether these (intake & element) made a difference in keeping the emissions light at bay is debatable - but some on here have also claimed that they help in reducing rear end 'smoke'. Could be some truth in it though.. Anything that helps cure this stutter 'phenomenon' is worth a go.:rubchin:
  10. Know what you mean, the xenon lamps give it a great look. I put a set of headlamp protectors on my SE and they do make the front end look better. They have a discrete black line around the edge and 'bring out' the front aspect of the headlight. Got the headlamp covers direct from dealer.
  11. Heard that they fit under the standard alloys, but I got that info from a seller on ebay.. The photo's he had on the site also confirmed this. Try a search for 'Fabia vRS' on ebay, he might still be supplying them. Nice upgrade though! Keep us posted on how they shape up.
  12. Just thought the additional air-flow may help 'smooth' the EGR stutter, as some have reported their stutter to be more like a bang/jerk etc. Thing is, I have all these parts (cupra intake, K&N, 9mm gasket) tucked away in a storage box, after I removed them from my last vRS - before I part-exed it for the SE. My old vRS also had the stutter when new (built late '05 so it was an early BLT engine). The 9mm gasket, cupra intake & K&N element made a hell of a difference. The stutter disappeared, the idle was smoother and the gear stick / seat 'shake I also suffered disappeared! For my SE, I'm going for the dealer fix - 14.5mm hole gasket (or was that 15.5mm?). I'll have to look back on the sticky again..
  13. Same here - position 11. The gasket is pressed from thin steel sheet (less than 1mm thick). It also has a slight chamfer around the hole opening in its centre - to produce a compression seal once fitted & bolts are tightened.
  14. Same with mine. Picked it up on Monday and the stutter on it is not acceptable! Thing is, the difference between having a 'stuttering' engine or one that is 'silky smooth' is just a poxy EGR gasket worth less than
  15. Agree with you both. If you go into a dealer armed with the part no. 028 131 547 B (9mm hole gasket), you will invariably be told that it doesn't 'show up' on their system. If you insist, like I did, that the part is fitted as standard on '04 plate vRS's, you may get the help you were looking for - the customer services assistant did a search using the 'older spec' vehicle data and found them.. 9mm gaskets suddenly materialised before my very eyes! I ordered 2 gaskets last week and picked them up - no additional fuss. Don't know if this helps, but the Volkswagen Group, Pick Location for the 9mm gaskets was A8901D01, part no. as stated above. I know my dealer quite well so it wasn't a problem searching and acquiring the part. Customer friendly branches of VAG make a difference -
  16. Just picked mine up from Alex Lawrie Skoda (Liverpool) this afternoon. They took delivery of around 8 SE's on Monday and are PDI'ing the rest of them like mad - over the next few days. Sad to see my Red '06 vRS go.. but the LE's metallic blue / window tints & leather seats are gorgeous! I'm off to the Engine stutter sticky-thread..
  17. Just for those of you thinking of, or about to change the gasket - the two bolts you have to remove need a 6mm allen key. When you take the existing gasket off (large 20mm hole), place it over the 'old version' 9mm one for comparison - the size difference is alarming! No wonder these BLT engines suffer the stutters..
  18. Totally agree. Your experiences reflect my own - here's a history of my last half dozen (privately owned) cars; '89 XR2 (modified) '91 Golf Gti 16v (standard) '94 RS2000 (modified) '04 Furby vRS (modified) '05 Mini Cooper S (standard) '06 Furby vRS (standard) soon to come.. '7 Furby vRS Ltd Ed (on order) Like some others on this site, I've also had the pleasure of driving a selection of other vehicles (company cars, hired, friends, relatives, begged, borrowed, etc..) and I've got to say, the Furby hits the spot for 'all round' performance per
  19. Hi Graham, Let us all know how you get on when your vRS arrives.
  20. Staying on the brake issue for a moment - I agree.. I'm onto my 2nd privately owned vRS & have driven another couple on 30min road tests. Braking differed in both initial 'bite' & also in the amount of brake dust generated. Would seem to suggest a variation in components/materials - pads maybe? I haven't played around with my latest car's brake set up, as they are one of the stronger ones I've driven (& with low dust). Back to the stutter - my '06 vRS was an ex-demo from my local stealer & only had 2.2k on the clock when I bought it. Although the car shows signs of a small stutter, the idle is definitely rougher & noisier. I have to try real hard to get my '06 to hesitate (v.slightly) - usual 1900rpm, back off throttle then re-apply etc.. normal driving day-to-day is fine. I'd love to know 100% what makes the older '04 plate EU3 engines different to the later EU4 versions (just a different size hole in the EGR gasket, or is it also ECU based?). I'd gladly go back to the EU3 spec, just for the better engine running characteristics alone..
  21. Same as most on this thread - I got my order (& deposit) in weeks back. Anyone called around for an insurance quotation, in advance of their new purchase yet? I'm with Adrian Flux & they rated the new 'Blue Ltd Ed' as a normal VRS.. i.e. no increase in premium over my current '06 Red furby VRS' - result! They did ponder over the issue for a while though :2002pimp: , I was on hold for a good 5mins on the phone before I was told the good news.. (present car is 11 mths old with 3.5k miles - standard apart from cd changer)
  22. Another big thanks to Grad - your fix was spot-on. This rattle was seriously getting on my nerves..
  23. Too right.. it surely must by a big heap of Bull****. Think the dealer just told me that to make me more eager to sign-up for the Ltd Ed VRS.. I'll give them a ring and ask what they based their (no new UK '08 VRS's) assumption on!
  24. Nice one - you must have been in there a few days after I was - did you get the same story about the new shape '08 Fabia VRS not being available here in the UK?
  25. Not too fussed about what the dealer told me on his allocation - all I know is I've got my name down for one and can't wait until it arrives!
