  1. Thanks gelertd for the reply. As an order of priority i’ll change the gearbox oil first and then see if the issue is still occurring. I read on this forum the other day where to find the details of the build of your car. It’s a white sticker on the inside of the service manual & stuck to the boot floor near the spare wheel. As im sure you’ll be aware of this sticker and it’s info content. It was from reading that info on the sticker that indicates my gearbox is the ‘JXY’ and my engine is the ‘AXR’ So I googled the JXY and found that it’s fitted to mk2’s & I think mk3’s (although not 100% on the mk3’s) And then I had seen the prices on them , to say the least I was supprised. Whether my car was one of the few to be flitted with the JXY AXR combo, as the first registered owner was in June 07. Obviously the car was made before that & probably sat in a large compound waiting to be delivered to a dealer. I think its a dual mass too, I’ve rang a few garages & told them my reg etc, the cheapest I found was £595 for a 3 piece clutch (LuK) and DMF fitted which I thought wasn’t to bad. But it before I commit to that , i’ll Change the gearbox oil. Is the gearbox drain & fill still the large large hex bolt type on the front & underside? Usual keep the car level rule & fill up to the line on the filler hole? any idea of the amount of oil? Regards, Mark.....
  2. Morning all , (car O7 FAB Boh 1.9tdi axr) 1. my first question , my gearbox is the JXY variant , can other coded gearbox's (5 speed) fitted with zero issues? 2. Whilst the car is under acceleration there is a slight rattling, when I press the clutch, it ceases. When I release the clutch & accelerate the slight rattle remains. When the car is stationary with the engine ticking over , when I press & depress the clutch there is zero rattles or noises of such. Originally I thought it maybe the release bearing, but when I've had release bearing issues with other vag cars, you can hear the difference when stationary at idle & with operating the clutch. So that's why I'm wondering if its gearbox related. Hence my question 1, as the JXY gearbox as a used low mileage unit seems rather expensive compared to others. 3. Are all fabs 1.9 tdi's factory fitted with the dual mass flywheel? I 'm aware how expensive they are & was contemplating a single mass conversion. kind regards, Mark
  3. Thanks for all your input, it is appreciated. I think I’ll go for the f&r arb kit. Like you mentioned the whiteline brand have a kit. After fitting them I’ll see if I need any further suspension additions. I think mainly I’m trying to stiffen it up. Cheers all
  4. Hi there, I’ve seen the white line as a kit, with both front & rear. Was gonna go down the route of g4 billys, vrs springs & f&r arb. Sticking to 15” atm got my winters on. Then maybe some 16” for the summer with some rain sport 3’s on. But was contemplating getting some othe 15” for summer , because the tyres are way cheaper when you stay at 15”. I mean there are plenty of options on the 15” , even if you just stick to vag oem wheels of sorts. ( a quick refurb in gun metal grey soon alters your perception) am I also right in asssuming that the vrs oem springs are lower than the other models? not wanting to go too low, plenty of speed humps in the roads where I live, not pleasant when ya scrape over them thanks for reply’s guys
  5. Thanks for info, just that in the listings of adverts selling them , it doesn’t state if it does fit. But as if you say the rear torsion beam is the same then I have no worries about purchasing one. Not not sure if they are fitted as standard, not had chance to get underneath, as I understand I thought it had just a front one
  6. Hi there all, ive a fab mk1 combi tdi 07. Has/does anyone know if the rear anti roll bars that are commonly available for the hatch will fit the combi/ estate version? thanks in advance
