  1. Was in Vindis again recently to have front screen washers replaced (for the 2nd time). The new Service lady , advised that she is aware customers use this site to 'complain' about Vindis.
  2. May be worth taking it to a detailer? WRT to bill presentation, what's wrong with slavery at 11 y.o. ?
  3. 55 '06 1.9 TDI. New clutch and flywheel 8k ago. engine fine so far - good mpg
  4. I was so impressed with the mpg from my octy today I thought I'd video the wee screen on my mobile...now I'm really impressed with how easy it is to upload video to u-tube : The 569.1 trip is since I last filled up, the computer thinks I've still got 105 miles in the tank, reality would suggest I've about 60-70 miles in the tank before I start to feel nervous. It's a 1.9 TDI now done just over 50k. the drive was a mix of A road, dual carriageway, town driving and unclassified roads...at one point it said 69.9 mpg...then I hit the road with speed bumps :-(
  5. Vindis seem to have smeared some kind of liquid sealant (silicon) into the edge of the quarterlights on mine to cure this for the 2nd time when I took it back into them.
  6. I've made my own version of this.... I first encountered this in a BMW several years ago and thought it was quite cool....then my DMF regressed to kit form and I had to use a Vauxhall Shedra for a week. It had these lights and I liked them, alot. so being a sad so & so I went to maplin and bought: 2 x green LED 1 x battery holder for 2 x AAA 1 x toggle switch. I then chatted up my colleague who eats Altoids like they're going out of fashion. Into the Altoid box I drilled with a 5mm drill bit - 2 holes on the 'bottom' for the LEDS and 1 hole on the side for the switch. |------------------------------------| |------------------------------------| ---switch#-BATTERY HOLDER--| |------------------------------------| |LED 1 LED 2--------------------| |-------||------||-------------------| soldered it all together the way I wanted... sticky fixered and taped all my bits in Finally I built a 'snoot' and diffuser to soften and direct the light. I then used self-adhesive velcro to attach this construction to my rear-view mirror. Okay - it's not attached to the light switch and I need to remember to turn it off/on, but it cost ~5 GBP and I've got rechargable AAA's lying about in need of a good use....which will last for hours running 2 little LED's. The only mod to this design I may implement is a 'dimmer' switch instead of a toggle switch (if I could be bothered!)
  7. 1.9 TDI (105 BHP) Did ~ 28k with the Michelin fronts and ~ 41k with them on the back. I figured that was good enough and have replaced with the same.
  8. phone diagnosis from dealer was dmf - sounded much like screws in a washing machine on a slow spin cycle...
  9. Clutch has been a little rattly for a couple of days now and had meant to call the dealer to book it in. Hadn't got round to it...anyway on the way home last night stuff got really rattly and noisy such that I called them and was advised to not drive the car any further. So the car is with the dealer now / on it's way and a hire car should be arriving in the next hour or so. I'll update as and when but it's still under warranty. I guess I've just made the chance of the DMF failing in a 1.9 statistically less likely to be a rare occurrence :-) Ross.
  10. Yes I have timed >15 minutes and > 7 miles before reaching 'normal'. I guess it's time for a lump of wood to restrict airflow over the engine time :-)
  11. My wife, at 5'2" has some issues with seating etc....she finds sitting on an old squishy pillow helps quite a lot.... may be worth finding an old pillow and 'folding' it in half to raise your knees? (especially if it's an old hollow fibre one they really 'squish'.) and at least you know if then 'modifying' the seat is worth it?
  12. I'd say if anyone had a similar story they should post the Number plate on here....the next person to buy the car should know it's history. If the stealer won't be honest, then (surely) it's up to us to try to make sure they are. Stealers are [insert "often" here to make sure that not 'all' but 'most' dealers are covered :-D] lying pond scum (actually worse than that...they're the fungus that grows on the algae, that the pond scum's pooh feeds.....) and the more we (the people) can bring them to rights, the better :-)
  13. Why would you want a loud exhaust at idle anyway - you just **** your neighbours off in the morning when you're de-icing the car....
  14. Through the summer I tested this: warm outside, air con on cold in cabin - air in glove box cold turned the 'cabin' temp to 'MAX' - aid in the glove box, still cold. Haven't tried now with the air con off and the cabin air warm - but it's not that important to me.
  15. Could be on the laser. I had a pioneer CD player that 'condensed' quite regularly on winter mornings.
