Superb_mk2_estate

Having struggled to find a very loud rattle on my mk2 superb, very similar to the one described in this forum, i thought id share the result (and fix) on here for other frustrated owners! bought the car in summer 18 from evans halshaw milton keynes, and shortly afterwards discovered a metallic rattle under the car when on rough terrain. not linked to speed or large bumps, became quite frustrating. long story ensues - evans couldnt find it, so it went to Skoda Brentford. they recommended a balljoint replacement. had that done under EH warrantee, but no fix. checked again, Skoda gave up. had the car up on a ramp myself, isolated the heatshields, checked as many bushes as i could, drop links, trackrods, anti roll bars etc and again took it back to Skoda. cut a long story short, a much cleverer mechanic than the last lot diagnosed loose-fitting aftermarket brake pad (N/S/F inward facing) Pagid pad. blamed it on the pad. took it to my local garage who played about with the backplate spring on the pad and fitted it back into the caliper more snugly and noise is fixed!! very simple problem but caused 6 months of anguish and £200 of diagnosis charges. EH have agreed to pay. good luck anyone else who has a rattle - its a pain.
