  1. Hi Folks. I have sold my Skoda which has served me remarkably well so will bw leaving the site. Thanks for being there.
  2. Hi. Yes I lost out. When I first found the rust around the number plate lights on my estate I was very alarmed and it being the middle of winter I wanted to try to stop it getting worse. This was before I realised there was a ten year warranty against corrosion. So I scraped of the loose rust andbrushed on some smooth black Hammerite. (Car is also black). Briefly, after this I then found out about the warranty and went to my dealership. They weren't aware of any such corrosion problem, hahaha. Was eventually referred to their body shop 30 miles away. They were very helpful and checked the car all over to ensure it hadn't been resprayed in the past. Told them about the Hammerite and said I was quite happy to scrape it all off. They said not to bother and reported back to the dealership. These miserable ******s were determined to follow the company line and said the paint I put on invalidated the warranty. Thats the end of the story. I have since made a more permanent job with the hammerite and it remains fine. The issue in my case is the foam rubber gaskets they fit under the number plate lights that soak up water and never dry out. Desighn error.
  3. Not an expert but I reckon that maybe written off.
  4. The 12volt accessory socket on my 2010 fabia estate is permanently live. ie. ignition doesn't need to be turned on.
  5. Using the above link, it does say that the bulbs don't fit my 2010 Fabia Estate. Shame as they look very good.
  6. I use the Osram Nightbreakers in my 1.9tdi estate and find them a big improvement on the original bulbs. The headlights are still a crap design in my opinion with just the one bulb and that ridiculous shutter system.
  7. A very comprehensive response Carlston, thank you very much.
  8. Hello. My 2010 1.9tdi estate is fitted with 205/45x16 alloys. I find the ride very firm/hard. The spare is a steel wheel fitted with 195/55x15. I am considering aquiring three more wheels/tyres to go with the spare, and using these on the car. Has anyone any experience of this, and would it in fact be legal?
  9. Hi Wino, yes I have tried this and also the similar method given in the Haynes Manual so far without success. I also get the "Service" message when I first switch on. The service work is up to date but the displays were'nt reset at the time.
  10. Its just the standard display. I'll give this a try, thanks.
  11. Hi I've searched the site using different keywords but without success. 2010 Fabia 1.9tdi. How do I remove the little spanner symbol in my trip display please.
  12. Yes I have this with my 2010 Fabia and often have to jiggle the steering wheel before the key will turn. So far Its always worked ok.
  13. Got a tow bar on my Mk2 1.9tdi estate. Max towing weight given as 1200kg.
  14. Its been a while since I did it but you can find a switched live in the fuse box under the steering column. I used a piggy back fuse holder, and an earth can be found with one of the fuse box mounting screws. As above.
  15. After five months ownership and 3500 miles in my 2010 1.9tdi PD estate I have found the following. Fuel consumption all measured full tank to full tank. Local runs close to home on A and B roads - 55mpg. A 555 mile trip from Kent to Scotland on mainly motorways - 63mpg. Very happy with these figures. I also find it hard to believe given what I read about some engines used in these Fabias, but it has used no oil since I bought it. In an attempt to improve the lack lustre headlights, I have fitted Osram Nightbreaker Laser H7 bulbs. These are a good improvement on standard H7s and well worth fitting. Of course I can't comment on how long they last yet. I don't like the 205/45x16 tyres. I find they give a hard ride and are very noisy on certain road surfaces. If I could ever justify the expense I might consider changing to steel 195/55x15 wheels/tyres as used in the existing spare. At my age I am more interested in comfort than style and looks. On a more general note, I have developed a thing about rear indicators on some makes of car. It seems to me that perhaps in the interest of style, some makes have indicators that are too small and often placed next to the brake lights making them very difficult to see. How they meet type approval standards I just don't understand. While I am having a rant, I will also mention the craze for fitting minute indicators on some motorcycles. Surely there is a major safety implication here. As a motorcyclist myself I would much rather my intentions were clear to other road users rather than just looking "cool" if that is what the intention is. I feel better now.
  16. Drums on the back of my car
  17. I would have thought that the brake efficiency is one of the factors in calculating the maximum towing weight recommendation. I don't know if the brakes on an estate are different to the hatchback but I have no concerns at all about brake performance on my car.
  18. Yes I was concerned about the gearbox. My fabia is a manual but my Zafira was a 6 speed auto and it was excellent and trouble free.
  19. Hi. I have a 2010 Fabia 1.9tdi PD estate. The max towing weight is also given as 1200kg. My 2berth Lunar has a MTPLM of 1000kg and the car pulls this quite well although not as well as my previous 1.9tdi Zafira. The major consideration for me is the given max nose weight of only 50kg for the car. This requires some very careful loading of the van to not exceed this limit. I don't know the power output of your car, but I presume that the bhp could be similar to my diesel (105) but torque could be somewhat less, and this might be an issue. Detachable swan neck tow bars are available although I recently had a fixed swan neck bar fitted. The integrity of the car is not compromised. My bar was fitted by one of the mobile fitters that are advertised, and was well done. £282 with single electrics. Hope this helps.
  20. Would it be possible to just remove the fuse(s)?
  21. Ok thanks xman for your help. 2Litres required.
  22. But surely the gearbox is removed so drive shafts would also be removed and even if the gearbox oil wasn't drained, a certain amount would come out of the diff unit. I have been out of the trade for a long time, but that always used to be the case, but maybe its different these days.
  23. Hello. Sorry if this has been covered before but I have been looking for the gearbox oil capacity without success. The car is a 2010 fabia 2 1.9tdi PD with the 5 speed manual box. Can anyone help me with this. I have 1.9 litres stuck in my mind, but I have no idea where I got this figure from. The car has recently had a new clutch fitted under warranty, and I need to satisfy myself that the box has been filled with the correct oil and the correct quantity. Thanks for any help.
  24. Interesting point. If the rain and wind we have here ever moderates, I will go out and check this
  25. My 1.9 estate does this as well. Although not ideal, I just this presumed this is the way it was designed.
