  1. Hi, I'm glad that the write up have helped you with your retrofit. When I was replacing bcm's I have copied all the setting from old bcm to the new one. If I remember correctly, I didn't have to do anything else. Try re-pairing remotes with the car. Easy procedure which can be done using any decent OBD app/software.
  2. Ok, you are right about saying, that these come from electric Mii and indeed they serve as DRLs. From what I could see from available photos of those lights, plug on the outside appears to be the same as the one on the HB4/9006 bulb. So theoretically, if the plug is the same it should work (as a fog light - NOT DRLs). Also, it would be possible to re-wire existing DRLs to utilise but personally, that would be to much of a hassle. @maxychat you are absolutely right, by saying, that FL citigo's headlights look nicer, sportier and bit meanier... I think, I will keep them as they are 🙃
  3. As much as I like the FL headlights, I would also have to change fog lights, to achieve a fully FL look. Sadly, if I would decide to change fogs, I would have to change bumper as well. Wiring wise, Im not sure about the side/position lights but changing from H4 to twin H7 bulbs is rather straight forward. On the subject of improved night driving, I have bought LED bulbs. Had no issues with MOT's as the bulb produces nice light pattern and surprisingly, lifespan is also impressive. As we moved off to LED's subject. I have found LED fog lights available for SEAT Mii. VAG #1ST941056 O/S and VAG#1ST941055 N/S. This could look very nice 🤔
  4. @maxychat saying that it reminds me, that I also replaced tail lights with ones from FL model 😛 Ive learnt from my mistake as I was under the impression that all NEW FaceLift Radios come with Bluetooth. Sadly, BLUES radio DOES NOT have BT connectivity. it have CD slot instead 🤭 so, the radio to be used for retrofit is SWING radio. Bluetooth is fully functional for phone calls, media streaming as well as Move&Fun App. Yes, Media playback from external USB device as well as charging, just as per one for Your earlier post - not the fastest but its there if needed. P.S. the only feature it does not work, and it didnt work on the OEM unit, is FM RADIO 😳 I suspect aerial issues, but as I dont listen to the radio - I cant be bother to get it rectified.
  5. Mod completed. Cloned speedo arrived just in time for Christmas Having a speedo and Radio unit from the same donor car made a job much more easier. I wont be complaining that's NOT a maxidot instrumant cluster. I am so pleased with the outcome!! 😏 This would not be possible without @maxychat and @RickB directing me to The Guy in the Netharlands! Thank You!!
  6. Bit of a summary, for those who might be interested in doing a similar mod. First of all, You will need a FL radio. Ideally a SWING radio as it has a bluetooth connectivity - BLUES - doesn't so choose carefully. Once You have it, NEW 52-pin quadlock connector will be required. Available on Ali. The best is to look for DIY kit rather than adapter, as some ready made adapters DO NOT WORK! And there is a VERY limited space behind factory radios! You have been warned re-wire Your existing connector, see the above diagram (to make it clearer I have removed unecessary items), plug it in and... the most complicated part - try to find somebody to disable Component Protection for You. I have visited 7. yes SEVEN, so called independent specialists around my area and they all were unable to do so. Neverthless, if You did your wiring right, Your radio will work - just some features wont be accessible/available until you will find THE right guy to assist You with CP removal. I went step ahead, and I purchased FL speedometer from the same vehicle I got radio from (NOT a maxidot) which allegedly may help with CP removal. For complete integration of Your NEW FL radio unit, You will also require a in-Car microphone 🤔 Ive tried couple of aftermarket in-car microphones, but they would not work with the previously trialed Android Head Unit nor with genuine radio, so Ive decided to go full OEM by purchasing 3BD035711 - it worked like a charm. Once You got Your radio sorted You may consider adding VAG OEM Smartphone holder with USB as the PID/Garmin/Navigon unit no longer works with Your new radio 😛 Below list will ONLY work with those vehicles which had PID installed previously, as apparently, there is an additional metal bracket inside the dash which vehicles without PID simply dont have. If you have a cut out in Your dash for PID/Smartphone holder with blanking clip-on insert - You are OK. If there is NOT - this retrofit wont be available for Your car - at least not that easily. so, once You replaced Your radio, and removed Component Protection, and You want to replace Your NOT WORKING PID wih Smartphone Holder with USB port, You will need following: (1) 1S0035935 B - base plate for the FL Smartphone Holder (see notes below), (2) 5Q0035726N - USB connector, (3) N10592102 - 2x M4 x14 crews (if You had a PID installed before use the old screws), (4) 5G0035222 - USB & AUX wiring harness (IMPORTANT: see notes in the text below), (5) 1ST051435B - complete Smartphine holder as a kit or available as two separate items: A. 1S0035936D - bottom part for the Mobile Holder, B. 1S0051435D - Upper Part for the Mobile Holder, (6*) 1S0 035 491 - blanking plate - optional. NOTES: (1) If You are lucky, You may be able to find baseplate already with USB connector. A lot of breakers they sell it as ONE part. Be VERY vigilant as some breakers/dismantlers may try to sell a PID baseplate under this part number, look closely at the photos and read the description!! (3) it doesnt have to be OEM screw, as long bolt's head fits in to the recess on the base plate - You will be fine. (5) avoid cheap copies from ali or ebay!! USB cable needs to look like a coaxial cable NOT like normal wire - see photo. Otherwise, it may not work at least it would NOT work in my case and Ive tried at least two different ones. If You will decide to use only USB part of the wiring loom, Black plug is not needed as this is for Your additional AUX port. therefore - 4-wires from the green 12-pin connector can be removed. Green 12-pin connector will be ONLY used to provide additional voltage to the USB port. This part of the write up is for those, whos vehicles were not fitted with PID's and where internal bracket nor cut-out may not be present. As the supplied wiring loom is very long, it is possible to add USB port as well additional AUX port next to Your cigarette lighter down at Your center console using 1S0863617B (NOTE: part 5Q0035726N is still required), buttons can be replaced or blanked or, if Your imagination and Your DIY skills allows it, there is so much wire supplied that You could install it in Your arm rest Some of the reference material was taken from HERE thanks to @danikd for pointing me there. The rest was by trial and error. My MOD is still in progress, @maxychat & @RickB Ive just posted my speedo to The Guru in the Netherlands. I shall return, once will have more to report...
  7. I hate when Companies do that, it is new but not so new 🤨 My Dad own FL citigo, and I have to admit that I absolutely love the new FL front wih the new shape headlights and aggresive fogs. If and when I would decide to change headlight, most likely I would also go with FL Monte Carlo front bumper 😏
  8. @maxychat I had a quick look on eBay and Autotrader, and it appears that early FL lift models had new shape HeadLight altough retaining round front fog lamps, received new radio but at the same time - retained old instrument clocks. Accordingly to the ads, the were sold/marketed as 2017 🤔
  9. @maxychat I have to admit, that I was bit disapointed when it turned out NOT to be maxi dot display 🧐 however, it will still look better that original from the pre-FL. One of the main reasons, why I went with THIS speedometer in particular, is that it comes from the same vehicle as the radio. Therefore, the whole retrofit process should be slightly easier. That it realy strange? Maybe because it is an early FL model? well, You can always change it 🤪thats if You havent done it yet
  10. Bit of an update, replacement Instrument Cluster arrived yesterday it is NOT a maxidot but still will look better than a OEM green backlight will keep You posted on the progress.
  11. Thanks to @maxychat and @RickB who has provided me with contact details to VAG Wizard up in Netherlands! I have exchanged couple of emails with this guys and his knowledge is absolutely amazing! ODIS error 'no-KS Master' was caused by lack of facelift instrument cluster as this, in a way, controls the radio unit (sorry if Im using wrong terms). So, dear reader, if You want to benefit from the facelift radio in Your car - You will also need a FL speedo! Having both parts from the same donor car may simplify Component Protection removal process.
  12. @maxychat many thanks for Your kind words. I just went crazy, and bought a maxi dot instrument panel from the very same car as the radio came from. Im aware, that speedometer will have to be coded to be used with my car. However, the "Wizard of VAG" wont be able to say its not going to work as BCM, Instrument panel and radio will be from the same car. thats theoreticaly, as practicaly I already have 1S0937090J BCM and the car ive got the bits from has exactly the same BCM, therfore I dont see a point of replacing it 😏 When it comes to pairing individual units, Im wondering if it would be easier to perform certain tasks with units "out-of-the-car" 🤔 On the linked video it looks so easy... I have read Your thread on the radio retrofit, I have ordered the required USB cable as the one I have (also from Ali) seem to not work at all. Thats the problem with Ali, sometimes You wait for the order fro weeks and when it arrives its either completely different to what You have ordered or simply dont work. But, the price relfects the quality.
  13. Bit of an update. Yet another VAG specialist visited, this time I had a chance to look over his shoulder. Sadly, no luck this time either... however... I know whats the fault altough I do not know what does it mean 🧐😕🤨 ODIS returned a following message: No KS master (and something about gateway) and was told by the tech: it will not work as Your car is NOT a MIB platform! and Your car clearly is not communicating with the radio! my question is WTF?! Which component is responsible for whether is a PQ or MIB platform? Is it BCM or Instrument Panel? Ive already replaced my BCM to latest model 090J at the time of one of the previous retrofits. or is it simply due to incorrect VCDS coding (settings)?
  14. @maxychat a quick question for You in regards of Your mobile phone holder and integrated USB port. Is that USB for: A - charging only? B - charning + data transfer? Ive read somewhere, that on the charging side it is not the quickest one? 🤔
  15. I salute You @RickB ‼️‼️ Yes, Ive changed BCM at some point so the CCS and MFSW would work. Should I try to update BCM again? Or, should I revert to stock and try to pair with the radio and swap over again? Radio is visible in VCDS under both 56 - Radio and 5F - info(something). CAN Gateway installation list was manually updated. Saying that, one of so called specialist told me that there is no radio in the list and that 5F is not RADIO?! Cant post the scan here, sorry 😳 Same with OBD11 - radio can be seen under both adresses. At this stage, I dont know what should I do 🧐 So far all so called independent VAG specialists I went to - told me"it will not work"
  16. I have visited yet another indepentent VAG specialist and - sadly - no luck. It's weird as accordingly to the technician, car does NOT communicate with the radio unit albeit everything worked for couple of days (prior the component protection kicked-in) as it should I.e. Time correctly displayed on the radio as well as outside temperature. So I'm absolutely puzzled what's going on?😵
  17. I consider myself a meticulous person and I do keep every single invoice/delivery note for parts bought 🤭 well, Ive seen a technician fidling with ODIS for about 20mins and in the end he told me that IT CAN NOT BE DONE?! at least I was not charged for his time. Fair play. @varooom and @maxychat I would like to thank You for Your kind words, and I will keep you posted on the matter.
  18. @varooom Your reply explains very much about how things works. I have no guarantee that the part (in this case Head Unit) did not come from the vehicle marked as stolen, despite it was purchased trough the official source and I have invoice to prove that it was aquired legally. How it ended up and the reasons behind why this vehicle ended up at the breakers yard it is indeed different story. Hopefully everything will be OK. Any tips, that I could gently suggest to whoever will be attempting to remove the protection? At the same time, I dont want to come across as a person who tells a technician what to do 😉
  19. @maxychat and this is where it gets even more interesting. I went to local VW dealer - Ive received a very dirty look and a straight - NO. Today I visited my local Skoda dealer and they refered me to the independent VAG specialist with whom they worked before!? I was under the impression, that this is what will happen that unit will be coded to my VIN rather than donor's. Also, I was told at Skoda, that all the procedures are being dealt via ODIS on-line and therefore, all the queueries are being dealt by a massive VAG database somwhere in the world. Basically, if this database will say this unit cant be used in this car - it will not happen. So, Im puzzled BIG time?!
  20. Component Protection (CP) appears to be a some sort of 'taboo' among VAG specialists with access to ODIS?! It was mentioned here, or maybe on the sister Up! forum, that a lot of owners where told that Swing radio WILL NOT WORK in pre-FL models. I need to ask than, what is the definitions of WILL NOT WORK?! Unit was working fine. Radio, Bluetooth (full support for making and answering calls even via MSFW), SD Card, USB (was coded for charging only at the time). It worked until CP kicked in. So, I went to few garages to make enquiries to deactivate CP. 3 of them said NO - straight away. 2 of them could not find the way to have it disabled?! So my question is - is this realy happening? It was doable in Czech and Slovakia but it is not doable in UK?!
  21. Well, as they say: "you can't have everything at the same time" 🤨 while I've managed to resolve issue with the in-call microphone quality by simply fitting OEM mic I was slapped by the head unit with 'Component Protection. so, I'm looking for a Competent person or a workshop in a Basingstoke are who would be able to help me out or it will be a costly trip to local dealer 😕
  22. The OEM way. It is a radio from newer Citigo and... it works!! Surprisingly, no code was required to lunch everything. Bluetooth is working, music is playing... and it looks ok. things to look in to more thoroughly: - in-call microphone - as there is no built-in microphone in the unit; - USB functionality - currently I have ONLY power in the port in the bottom of the media/phone holder. and for some strange reason, the OEM loom with OEM USB port currently its not working 🤔🙄
  23. Few months later, I have finally managed to have the unit installed in my car. It looks good, sound is decent. The CONS of this unit are: - poor in-call quality due to poor quality of the built-in microphone; with an additional external microphone was NOT much better either 😕 - Lack of Android Auto functionality. This can be bypassed by downloading Headunit Reloaded Emulator by B3IT or its counterpart for Apple Phone. - wiring issue - could NOT work it out - unit would remain ON even with the key pulled out of ignition. Every time had to manualy switch the unit off. Eventually, I found a way around it by disconnecting one of the power wires from the connector at the back. I was fairly satisfied with this unit until my Steering Wheel Controls became unresponsive. I was worried, that HU somehow managed to damage or interfere with MFSW. But NO. I have checked two different CAN-BUS Adapters and MFSW would simply not work any more with this unit. so... decided to go OEM way...
  24. Various wiring adapters came trough i.e. OEM quadlock to stereo connector with CAN-bus adapter, aerial adapter... Still waiting for a radio mounting frame. NOTE: if any of you would decide to use single DIN fascia adapter, you will also have to purchase an aluminium mounting frame, as there is nothing to attach new head unit to the fascia. It looks promising 😀
  25. 10Inch Android Auto... it is larger than anticipated 🤨 It will be something to tackle on my next day off
