  1. Hi all, bit of an off one... my 1.9 TDI has always been a bit lumpy to start, so when I last serviced I replaced the glow plugs. Now perfect to start when its minus degrees C outside, but still a bag of spanners if its warm outside. Fires up perfectly when the engine is warm. Before I start clutching at expensive straws, is there a temp sensor somewhere that toggles the glow plugs? can I bi-pass the glow plug controls and put it on a switch (I'm old school) Help!
  2. Cheers guys- thanks to your help I'm back on the road!
  3. My Occy broke down last night (first time ever though) no 1st or 2nd gear. Nice RAC man had a look, and said its internal to the box, then towed me home I've done the cable reset thing, and still no joy, so am looking at a replacement box. According to the Haynes Book, it should be a 02J box, and according to the sticker in the back its an AGR engine and EBJ box. from digging, I can see that there are lots of 02J's around, but not many EBJs... So; what other boxes might fit? I'm guessing its a gear ratio thing....any pointers gratefully received Just had a thought= is an 02M 6 speed box a straight swap? Cheers!
  4. Help! neither boot light on the occy works- both bulbs u/s replaced bulbs, still no light. checked bulbs on meter, no resistance, so should work checked feed, 11.8 volts so all good there. What am I missing??? I don't get electricity- I can't see it.
  5. Cheers for the input guys- dutifully re-attached!
  6. Diesel- at the moment all I can see is its causing a really annoying noise...
  7. Hi all, really quick question- my Octavia estate has a big plastic under body guard (novelty to me coming from felicias and favorits) Does it have any real purpose? I ask as it seems to have worked its way lower and lower and is now fouling the road- would I be causing a drama if I removed it?
  8. Never used their black pads- regularly had green pads on favs/fellys seemed to work really well.
  9. latest update, Grumble (as the Mrs has named it) has had a compression test. running 125 psi on cylinder nearest water pump, 110 on other three. Does this still point to a head gasket?
  10. thanks for all the advice guys, unfortuantely the 120 is ont he back burner for now, as the Fav just failed the MOT in a big way :(
  11. Evenin all, I have a 1989 Estelle five speed which i brought off ebay. after getting it collected from devon (200 miles) with no issues i thought i would have an easy ride. Mistake! It has now been taken for a drive 3 times and dumped its water three times. New stat and low temp fan switch fitted no difference. Any ideas? Head gasket? run it without the stat? If it is the head, anything i should do while i have it apart? Thanks in advance guys Dan
  12. sounds exactly like what my Fav did, just before it dumped the broken bits of the CV joint on the drive. Easy job to change IF you can get the hub nut off.
  13. glad it went to another enthusiast!
