  1. @Wino - not wanting to hijack a thread...but I did replace the oil seperator - it wasn't actually that bad & looks like it had been replaced before. I did think about taking the sump off but haven't ventured there yet! In some ways we have learnt to ignore the rattling! It was helped by the knocks fromt he suspension but I have since replaced the bottom ball joint one side & both the drop links. The vaccum pipe is bizarre. I don't understand the point in it & it looks like it is bodged in using various bits of pipe etc...
  2. Hi gallaghermartinpaul.... My wife has an auto BKY engined Fabia too. It sounds like a diesel how rattly the engine is yet it has only done 60K. There is a thread on here about it.... how does yours sound? Also, in neutral or park if you rev the engine & try to hold 2000 revs do you find the revs drop off & it's difficult to control as though there is a dead spot in the throttle? That pipe on the airfilter is a pain, it is really difficult to fit with the grommet. It always worried me that it will fall off & affect the braking performance!
  3. Well it worked & I have another 9 inserts in case it happens again! Thanks for all the help!
  4. OK - the thread repair kit (insert type) turned up today but I was at work. It looks doable. I will attempt tomorrow! Thanks for pointing me towards it. I've bought all the extra tools in case I need to take it all apart. I was half way though stripping it out (no pun intended) when I saw about the kit. I need to replace the bottom ball joint bolts as I snapped two of those but luckily they turned up too today! Wish me luck!
  5. What size is the thread? Where did I go wrong!?
  6. So do I try to split the leg on the car & only remove the wheel bearing housing? Never done this on a skoda before but done it several times on a couple of Citroen C3s! I assume the wheel bearing is retained in the wheel bearing housing & I will just need to remove the steering arm, wishbone & driveshaft. Is there a special tool to remove the driveshaft, it looks odd? Not mcuh choice on E-bay at the moment but got an enquiry out on one. Thanks for all the help so far
  7. Is it common for these threads to strip the one on the other side didnt feel too good! Will I need any special tools?
  8. Thought I would have a look at the brakes on the wives 1.4 16V Auto 56 plate Fabia. Took them off & cleaned them up. Went to put one of the calipers back on & the bottom thread stripped in the lower strut/wheel bearing housing. The slide didn't fair much better either. I thought I would temporarily solve the problem by rethreading & fitting a helicoil. Stupidly I thought it was a M10x1.25 thread. Well it isn't. I now have a much bigger threaded whole in the wheel bearing housing. How do I get out of this one?
  9. Well, went to fit the bushes today &............I got the wrong sie. I needed 69mm. Luckily local supplier had them in stock, unfortunately they are the metal Febi uprated ones. SO far I have one half in & a load of 12mm bar & nuts with striped threads...............
  10. Well, I've ordered the bits & will find out Thursday when I go to fit them!
  11. Hi, Wife's 2007 1.4 16V Automatic needs the rear axle bushes replaced. She has lost the rear end of it a few times at relatively low speed. I didn't believe her until the other day when it did it to me. Looked under it & the bushes are falling apart! I tried measuring with a vernier but it's awkward to see. I measured roughly 67mm but can't be sure. I see they come in 69mm & 72.5mm Don't want to get the wrong ones on order & get stuck! Is there a fool proof way of knowing without taking the car apart?
  12. Back again! OK, The rough running was a coil pack! I also re-adapted the throttle. Now done 800 odd miles & stillhas the rattle (although a bit queter!) I got hold of a fuel rail complete with injectors for £20 so I though I would give that a go in case a dodgy injetcor was allowing through too much fuel (the fact taht cylinder 1 had liquid in it when I first looked) Unfortuantely the injectors on the replacement had white ends & the original had blue. I fitted it anyway & the car runs, it does seem quieter! I have since done a bit of googling & appear to have bought a BBY rail instead of a BKY rail. The injectors on the BKY are 036906031AB & the BBY036906031M both are 1.4 16V. Will any damage be done? Should I swap back to the BKY one?
  13. Only tried between fingers but all seemed firm. I am trying to catch up on all my other jobs while I wait for the coil packs. However, when pressed between fingers some had bubbles of oil coming out of the side hole but others had air bubbles.
  14. Changed the plugs & made no difference but it did help! I took the plugs back out, cylinders 1, 2 & 3 were sooty but cylinder 4 was like new & wet! I already had a 2nd hand set of coil packs on order (got the 4 from a reputable VW breakers for £15) as I thought they might help diagnosing this problem. Hopefully this will sort the problem & I can give the car back to the wife to actually drive! Wino - I had already fitted that connection but I suspect people have been caught out in the past.
