  1. Just a minor update on some stuff I forgot to mention (too much time has passed, so I can't edit the topic): There are no fault indicators on the instrument panel (no "check engine" light, etc) When the engine dies, other electronic components seem fine: Air conditioning, lighting, stereo keep working Here are some threads that seem related to my problem, but I've ended just being more confused. I know, I'm a dummy: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/324807-suspected-crank-speed-sensor/ https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/67757-speed-sensorcrankshaft-sensor/ https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/121188-epc-light-and-16706-code/ https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/342643-starts-from-cold-starts-when-hot-but-not-when-its-warm/ https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/404283-cold-start-doesnt-start-first-turn/
  2. Hello all! I have for a while now had a problem with my Octavia mk1 (1.6 litre petrol), accompanied with the fault code in the title: 16706: Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal: P0322 The symptoms are fairly consistent with what the ross-tech 16706 page says, but for a more personal run-down, I'll describe my symptoms: The car starts just fine when it hasn't been running for a while (i.e being cold?), but the engine will die on the first traffic light I have to stop at, when idling. It will start again when turning the ignition; this has probably happened some 25 times and it has always started , but takes about 5 seconds of turning before it does so. Immediately after that, the car is in "limp" mode, accelerating very slowly, and runs unevenly at low speeds on a low gear. Initially when this behavior started, power-cycling the ignition (i.e turn the car off, then turning it on again) would instantly resolve the issue, however more recently the problem has become more persistent, and happens more often than not; the predictability has gone. An OBD scanner indeed displays the fault mentioned in the title, and if I clear the fault code, it comes soon thereafter - not too surprising. The rev counter appears to be working normally, as does the speedometer. I'm a little bit confused about which sensor that might be at fault, and I'm terribly confused about the difficulty in replacing it. From what I understand there are two sensors, one near the crankshaft, and another positioned near the oil filter. Does anyone know which of these sensors is the cause (ignoring it possibly being a wiring or ECU fault), and does anyone how complex it is to replace? Am I even correct in that there are two sensors? I'm a novice when it comes to car repairs, but I've done a fair amount of other repairs over the years on this car, where the most complex was replacing the EGR valve which was an absolute bloody nightmare. I'm hoping replacing this sensor - whichever it is - is easier than that job. If not, it's time for a new car! Please help me assess this. it's worth mentioning that I have another OBD fault which I'm planning on resolving, however I don't think it's related (please correct me if I'm wrong): 16514: Oxygen (lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Malfunction in Circuit: P0130 Thank you all, I appreciate you taking the time to read this message.
