  1. It happened to me on 12th June, just for one journey, and hasn't done it since, so I'm not too worried about it.
  2. Ah, OK, thanks for that. Good to know I'm not the only one. I will take it to my local Skoda dealer if it happens again.
  3. Yesterday, I set off for lunch with friends 20 kms away and noticed immediately that my infotainment screen was blank - totally black. Pressed the on/off button a couple of times - nothing. Turned the volume control and saw the green volume indicator at the top of screen, but tapping Nav, Radio, Phone, etc. produced nothing - I had a totally blank screen for the whole journey. Arrived at our friends and reversed into their driveway and the rear camera display came on. So, obviously it was not an issue with the screen itself. Late afternoon, I got in the car to come home, turned on the ignition, et voila! Everything was back to normal. Tried it on four separate occasions yesterday evening and this morning, and it's working as it should. So, bizarre behaviour and a little worrying. A. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? B Has anyone any idea what could have been the cause?
  4. OK, thanks, So, just that one screw, and all the others are poppers. In that case, I'll give it a go (when it stops raining!)
  5. The tailgate pull-strap on my wife's 2007 Roomster has broken. Is the tailgate interior panel just a pop-off - pop-on? If so, I could surely fix some sort of replacement for her to stop her getting her hands dirty. Has anyone else had this problem and effected a repair?
  6. I live in France and have a 2018 Combi 'Drive' with what looks like a leather steering wheel and gear pommel. We get lots of hot weather here and so the 'leather' gets dirty. So, I have two questions : 1. Is the 'leather' steering wheel (and 'leather' gear pommel for that matter) genuine leather ? 2. What method is best to clean it ? Thanks for your input
  7. It records your location and your speed. The software used with mine allows you to review every centimetre of your journey and the speed at every moment on a map, and on the video.
  8. I know nothing about taking power from the OBD socket. I do know that some people have wired them direct to the fusebox. For my part, the Toguard came with a very long USB cable which was easy to hide and easily.reached the USB socket below the Infotainment screen. I just bought a very short 90 degree USB adapter so that the cable didn't protrude from the USB socket. The software supplied with this dashcam is excellent and was the deciding factor in my own purchase. Checkout this video at 1m 40s
  9. The Toguard HD turns off after 3 minutes of driving. It powers on when I unlock the car and powers off when I lock (connected to the USB socket in front of the gear lever with a r/h connector)
  10. OK, well, although my car was first registered in January 2018, I bought it with just 8,000 kms on the clock and even now it's only done 20,000 kms (12,500 miles) so I'm going to note all this info and see how things go in the future. Thanks again 🙂
  11. I would never order one if buying new either but then I would never buy new. Like yours, this was a s/h vehicle which was exactly what I was looking for in all other respects and it just happened to come with a pano roof as well. Actually though, I do like the roof open in spring and autumn. I had a Honda S2000 before moving to France in 2003 and so I enjoy driving with my head exposed to the sky.
  12. Well a huge thank you to you BigJakk for going to so much trouble to provide some very interesting information. I think I'll leave mine alone as it doesn't seem to bear much resemblance to the graphic you posted from the workshop manual. I think maybe my roof is a different design? BTW my hand is there to block the sun, not to say, "This is my PR" 🙂
  13. Hi BigJakk, Can you tell me how often this needs to be done, please? Thanks in anticipation
  14. I have a 'Toguard HD Dash Camera' with GPS and I'm delighted with it. Great PC software too. Been using it for the last 14 months. I live in France and paid about 70 euros for it on Amazon. So, maybe £60 in the UK?
  15. Are you talking about the Set/Reset not working, or the ON/Off switch? I ask because, believe it or not, a few weeks ago I noticed that the set/reset switch for the cruise control on my 2018 combi was not working, nor was the green indicator coming on. Guess what the cause was? That morning, I had given the interior a thorough clean and had inadvertently switched off the cruise control via the ON/OFF switch on the stalk. I know it sounds stupid and basic, but you never know 😉
  16. I'm really pleased with this one from Syncwire. It works extremely well and is a high quality item. It hold the phone horizontally or vertically.
  17. I just came across this thread because I was surprised to see a 'change key battery' message in my car this morning. Surprised because it's only two years old and has done just 18,000 kms (10,000 miles). I bought it last March with just 5,000 on the clock. Anyway, following tips here, I have replaced the 2025 battery with a 2032 as I had a few 2032 spares in the house but no 2025s. It's a bit fiddly and I had to use a small screwdriver to push and hold the 2032 battery in place while I replaced the plastic cover, which then needed a firm push down to close and lock. But it works fine. Thanks to all who mentioned it.
  18. I found that (A) you have to use the SD card supplied by Skoda. The advice I received from the Skoda garage where I bought the car was NOT to format the card because there is a risk of corrupting the hidden file Skoda put on the card to ensure verification. (B) you must first slide the lock on the SD card to make it writable (if it's been locked) (C) Put the SD card into your computer (D) I first copied the map folder from the SD card to my PC (for safety) (E) Delete the Map folder from the SD card (not possible unless you do (B)) (F) Download the new map and follow the instructions
  19. I have one of these. It has a low profile and works perfectly.
  20. Excellent. I'm glad you managed to sort it. It did annoy me. I live in the Lot et Garonne by the way - very rural ! 🙂
  21. Go to this link, choose Passat / Discover Media and then scroll down for map options: https://webspecial.volkswagen.de/vwinfotainment/int/en/index/downloads/maps-download#/10;?car=3f24d9b8-3e18-43d7-b3fe-3f2e3e7925ca&navi=f7d60bb5-e4c7-4f15-a629-ed994e464a9f
  22. Maybe you downloaded the wrong map? I live in France and I can state categorically that the map I downloaded from the VW website in September DOES show the 80 km/h limit. The fact that Skoda was over a year late in getting their act together in this regard was precisely the reason I went to the VW site. See my post above dated 13th October. I can't go out to the car to check the map date as it is chucking it down here at the moment. Sorry.
  23. I got fed up waiting for Skoda to provide updates for their maps back in August, so I did exactly as Kenai describes above. It worked perfectly. If you think about it logically, it makes no sense for the VW Group to pay people to produce separate maps for different marques.
