  1. Tried that. There are a couple but I need the 5 spoke solids off an Elegance. Nothing else will do. Thanks anyway. Any more clues as to who the poster may be?
  2. Searched for 'alloys', 'rims' 'solid's, '5 spoke' and combinations thereof. I've not tried 'white Superb' as yet. Will give it a try.
  3. I've gone back about 10 pages but not been able to find anything. Was it on the Skoda forum? Thanks
  4. Same thing happened to me over Christmas. Took out the old fob battery, left it for five minutes and replaced with a fresh battery. Works fine now.
  5. Thanks for the advice but I'm moving the car on in a month and don't want to spend £300 on a new alloy. Anyone changed their rims and have a spare 5 spoke solid sitting in the garden?
  6. A pothole (thanks Surrey CC) has wiped out one of my alloys. Now the tyre won't seal properly. Anyone know where I can get a cheap replacement? 05 Elegance
  7. I think this an occupational hazard with the five spoke alloys. They corrode around the rim and let air out. The tyre guy that does mine makes sure they're thoroughly cleaned and applies some black gunk which he says will help it to seal. Also pothole damage can knock the wheel out of true (especially if your tyre pressures are low) and this will contribute to air loss. Just check them every week. They do look nice though!
  8. I've got a pair that will run off a USB hard drive or USB drive and play Divx ('compressed' movies). The two luvvies can then watch separate movies saved to their USB sticks. Also allows you to plug in a Playstation for games or DVDs.
  9. I don't think this fuse is in the fuse panel revealed when the door opens. It's buried away under the steering wheel and is not that easy to get to. I got the Skoda mechanic to replace it when the car was in for a service.
  10. In the old days, indicators flashing twice as fast as normal was almost always the flasher unit going ( Usually a small silver box the size of a box of matches). Not sure if flasher units have survived onto modern cars.
  11. Did the Old Bill get involved? The Suzuki tyres look bald (or at least very well worn)
  12. I've never found the Air-con hugely efficient. Yes it's cold, but not the icy blast you get from other cars. I wonder if it's got anything to do with the increased air volume inside the car? With the stretched passenger cabin over the standard Passat, I bet the air volume inside the car is about 30% greater.
  13. I guess anything is possible, but I think the easy answer to all your questions is 'No'.
  14. May be of use to someone (if it's the correct Passat!) For Sale : VW passat springs/control arms & more
  15. Where is the 2010 disc available? Thanks
  16. Any more info on downloading the disc please. Does this contain updated maps? Will this work on the Mk 1 Skoda satnav unit? Thanks
  17. Finally went to JKM in Portsmouth, just off the end of the A3 £498 for cambelt, waterpump etc £198 for the 60K variable service £100 for a tyre and £30 to cure the tracking problem (steering wheel slightly off centre) I could not recommend them more highly - it was almost a pleasure to hand over £830!! Polite, tea and on time. Quality of the mags was a bit naff though. Tracking problem solved completely. Car running fine (so far). If you're planning to get them to service your car, as there's nothing to do once you drop the car off (JKM is in the middle of an industrial estate), take your laptop with you and walk to Hilsea station (5 Minutes). A £3 return ticket takes you into central Portsmouth. I found a Starbucks where for £1.80 I got endless coffee refills all day and free wi-fi. If you can call £830 lighter pleasant, then it was a pleasant day!
  18. Fox's want over £1100! The dealer is cheaper. Difficult to justify spending this money on a £5K car! Anyone know of a cheper independent close to Guildfore/Leatherhead? Thanks
  19. Can anyone recommed a decent, reliable and economic independent garage in the Guildford area for the dreaded cambelt/waterpump etc, etc plus 60K (variable) service? '05 Elegance 2.5 Tdi Auto Guildford area. I've tried Unit 18 in Milton Keynes, but Warranty Direct insist that the garage be VAT registered which Unit 18 isn't (as yet) Local Skoda delare is quoting £1000 for the work to be done. The car's not worth more than £5K (if I'm lucky!) and it's going later on this year, so spending dealer money is mad. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks
  20. That's what I did in the end. GSF quoted £66 for the battery only only 71 Ah. The dealer fitted one is 80 Ah You should have seen the service guys's face when I said I wanted a new battery fitted to a 2.5 diesel! I think it's a DIY job for any other model (except the 2.8 petrol). Took about 45 minutes in total. Anyway, working fine now. I got a quote for the cambelt change, water pump and 60K service (variable). Just shy of £1000 inc VAT! Where is Lummox?
  21. Thanks for all the advice. It's off to GSF for me. The walkthrough is great but it wont work for the 2.5 as it must have a larger battery. The battery will not come out (it's too deep) without removing the wiper plastic panel, which means removing the wiper arms. It's also in the centre of the engine bay, so I'll let someone elses back take the strain! Designed by a lunatic (or accountant!) Cheers
  22. I got down to the wiper panel and the thought the better of it as it was getting dark. I might have made it if the wipers weren't seized solid! I'll give GSF a try. The new battery (thankfully) can go back. My question is, 'Why is such a simple task made so difficult'? I even asked a couple of local tyre/exhaust people who didn't ring back when they found it was 'under the windscreen'! £123 from the local dealer - wouldn't have something to do with it? Make it so difficult that the only option is to take it to the dealer?
