  1. Maybe a pointless comment, but it’s cheap so have you cleaned the headlights recently? Can make a huge difference in case you haven’t thought of it
  2. i30N? Giulia veloce after some good barganing? Though you may have to go for a 2020 model I think for ACC... beamer e330? depends how much practicality would be a priority for you really...
  3. Hitting the park pilot button also switched it off unless your next detected manoeuvre. I have found the system to be quite laggy at times. It’s crazy to think that we have iPhones that rival high end computers in terms of performance, but ICE systems seem to be 10 years behind, like they are running on a pentium 3 chips when it comes to the interface...
  4. Yeah sounds about right... 😕 I appreciate the empathy Gerry! Is/was your 1.4 twin charged ? Or with a variable turbo ? Well my gut guess is they prioritised fixing the roo and power dip issues for the fuel mapping, and probably got some derogatory paperwork for the WLTP data, as the EU seemed to be allowing going over the required figures over a set time... I wonder if they released the final WLTP figures for this engine...? Maybe I should also point out that my daily commute involves some up down start stop accelerating... Terrain has to be a factor, but it’s Bière & frites land not the Swiss Alps... But let’s get some more data before drawing conclusions...
  5. Coming from a Swift sport I’m missing some sportier handling (= fun) in my 1.5 Octavia. While I know it’s the wrong kind of car for practical family fun on a budget (VRS would have cost me 5k euro to register here I live), I’ve been toying with the idea of ‘what if I upgraded the suspension’ with Eibach pro kit (ie black paints and B8s If I understand correctly). However it seems testimonies are relatively sparse or from other combinations (h r springs with b4 or stock dampers or etc etc). Since the Eibach Pro-kit is a homologated off the shelf suspension mod, I figured it would be nice if people could share here in one place their experience handling, comfort changes vs stock (trailing arm pref, independant suspension ok), front bumper scapes, other, so a general consensus can be established. So, sharing is caring, please type some helpfully arranged letters of the alphabet below if you would care to (and help me get a better idea of what to expect / if it’s worth spending the cash for me too in the process ) Please also state you engine and transmission too, as different weights mean different setups and handling characteristics. Cheers S.
  6. Well, here’s my summary 4 months later and 5000+ km. Motorway average about 6.2 l/100km, or about 740km on one tank which is pretty decent. City driving is not great. Between 8.5-10.5 L/100km depending on how much of a rush I am, over 10km. About half of that is warmup time. Weekly commute averages about 600-640km on one tank Long term is 6.4l/100km. Switching between 95 and 98 doesn’t seem to make a big difference (the manual states improved economy and performance), though I hardly went about the comparison scientifically with recorded and calculated data. Honestly I was expecting more from city driving from so much eco tuned petrol burning tech. But so be it... And who else finds that lag when you put your foot down and the computer takes a moment to decide what you most probably want unnerving? I find myself switching to sport mode quite often to avoid that. Go means go, not let’s think about it then go...!
  7. I have a 1.5 hatchback ordered in feb 19 with chrome trim incl side option but no spoiler. Was built in September. Delivered mid October with no chrome, black grill surround and black boot lip spoiler and black roof lining / interior trim (which I prefer), and super sport steering wheel with paddles instead of sport steering wheel 😁. It was 4 months late and I did spec lots of options which may have had something to do with those changes at factory, but at that time I noticed the configuration here changed for the hatch. Anything above 115bhp (so not 1L engine) had black trim instead of chrome ( so black pack presumably). I do wish I had specked the dynamic sports pack though, but was aiming for practicality with a front folding seat (which I may use once probably but oh well...) and the led headlights, but at 1200 euros, I had to make some tough choices. Really the difference isn’t that huge, it’s more of an ego thing really and depends what you want/need/will be happy driving. You can drive yourself mad otherwise, like worrying whether it’s gonna come with the spoiler or not and how you gonna live without a sporty-ish car as a new family man 😅 ! 😚
  8. On a long journey through Germany I noticed the car’s navigation would cancel its route without warning. Puff niet nada back to compass. Happened 5 times and had to redefine the route each time. iphone was plugged in to CarPlay, without any navigation apps running. I did notice that whenever I planed a route on the phone, the car’s navigation would cancel ( I like to compare systems in real time) so there’s probably a link there. Mostly it feels like a really annoying bug, especially when you’re at a junction. Car is 1 month old Anyone else out there had the same problem, and maybe found a solution? thanks S.
  9. My experience of 3 months with a 1.0 manual loaner: It’s a brilliant engine for what it is. If you like a the feel of power on acceleration, it feels slightly lacking, but even with a heavy foot you will be hard pressed to burn through lots of fuel. 780km with a little reserve on motorway driving and 670km city driving out of a full tank is very good for me (last car I averaged 8.3l/100km but it was a sporty 1.6 NA). Maybe, with a full trunk and 5 adults, you will feel the power a bit lacking going up a steep hill, but for 90% of the time it’s a great price of engineering. You just have to match your gears to when boost comes on (1500 rpm). Has a sporty rasp too on acceleration like most 3 cylinders. Also, as mentioned above, you can deactivate traction control in the car settings. You will notice how the car manages power delivery when pushing through corners vs off (it cuts the power a bit if too much lean to stay on the safe side), and discover the full potential of this engine if you want to drive like a hooligan (hypothetically speaking of course...). I also noticed vs my 1.5 the suspension felt a bit softer, probably due to the lighter engine (still on the firm side on things, but comfortable). Handling is also nice and neutral and better than expected (vs excellent swift sport) Definitely a shortlister (to use car wow vocab) if you want good economy with decent power and great practicality for the money and finish.
  10. Hey guys, A bit surprised at the high fuel consumption of my 1 week old octy. On my daily commute of 10km, a mix of city driving and a little motorway, and making a conscious effort to drive smoothly (I usually have a heavy foot), I’m struggling to get below 8l/100km (31mpg across the pond). With the replacement 1.0 octy I had whilst waiting for my car to be delivered, I was getting 7.4l/100km with a heavy foot and expedient driving for the same journey (not a morning person :p) I’m sort of putting it down to a new engine loosing itself up progressively, but wonder what others experiences were like from new? Also on occasion there is a burnt rubber smell coming from the car when standing next to it. Dealer says “it’s absolutely normal and should disappear soon”. Might be new clutch plates...? Apart from that it’s pretty smooth and 150hp is nice power (last car had 125hp) Anyone else got some free factory upgrades (I got black pack, seems standard for anything +150hp when you order now until mk4 is out, supersport steering wheel, kessy ) Cheers S.
  11. Your welcome Excluding form factor and suspension tuning, I found Ateca specs very similar to the Octavia except maybe a little less refinement or useful features (the practical stuff like hooks and whatnot) vs a Skoda. Rest to me is the same equipment but with different names and/or look (VAG parts bin) Also consider that’s due to their brick shape SUVs will inherently be thirstier. A test drive definitely helps! Even better rent one for the day if possible you’ll have more time to get a feel for it. The cost would be a worthwhile small investment vs how much cash would go into your next car in my book
  12. I once test drove a fully optioned out Ateca with the 190 tdi. It was very torquey and pulled like a train (coming from a swift sport), and notably will not forget my other half’s manic evil laugh as she stepped on and off the gas with the power at her disposal 😆. Solid car if well optioned out with a nice interior and pano roof. Suspension is a little sportier (stiffer) too than a Skoda which adds to the fun factor. Still sounded like a tractor though 😛 And given today’s trends SUVs command a higher price spec for spec. Maybe as an option B if your choice of used scouts is lacking?
  13. It was the tiredness monitoring. Decided to fully wake you up before entering a high speed section. 😄
  14. Ride height and plastic cladding. Also Scout has some extra off-road user selectable traction control features.
  15. maybe this'll helpa little if you haven't seen it already...
