  1. Post pics. Sounds like a good idea. I'm not big in to debadging but think this would look good for the Monte. Talking of badges.. Couple teenagers came to my door last night to tell me I had left the boot open on my tidy Alpha Romeo!
  2. Being a proud owner of a Monte I would love to say 1.6, but the 1.9 estate I owned and before that the VRS were both better engines, the VRS by a good way. Sorry.
  3. I put Sunny tyres from Mytyres straight on alloys. Did not get tested much as very mild winter. Very reasonable overall but fitting prices are up. Will wait for snow this time before refitting as they are pretty useless in just wet conditions.
  4. I think it looks great. In the second picture though the wing mirrors look massive....... Lol.
  5. Cheers, for the comments. Callipers next I reckon. They are getting rusty too. Not as noticeable but think its worth doing.
  6. The silver started to look scabby with rust showing. Wheels off. Good rub down, clean and painted with smooth black Hammerite by brush. Took four coats. Happy with the job. Looks much better in black than silver.
  7. Hey Shark, I know there are threads to mod but never considered. How much for tuning box? Economy mpg? Easy to fit? Warranty invalidity? I like the sound of getting more bhp and torque.... Reasonably as I don't want to damage it.
  8. I owned the Mk I vrs Fabia. Simply a brilliant motor. So after 10,000 miles in my Monte how does it compare. To be fair you can only compare these two as MK II Vrs is a different animal (with a capital A). The Vrs had loads and i mean loads of torque, great economy and was great fun to drive. The seat colours were impractical and it was too small, particularly the boot. I think it didn't stand out, although that was some of the appeal. In all, probably one of the best cars I've owned. My Monte. More grown up drive with more space all round. Better handling and looks really good. I get loads of favourable comments. It is quick enough but nothing special. All round economy is good but mpg could be better. I would say Monte is just about good enough at everything which makes it an excellent car. Enough speed, enough space, enough good looks, enough economy etc. Not much cars can better this. In all MK I Vrs would be a better car IF there was more space, looked a bit sportier and had better colour interior. As it goes then I think my Monte is better and in my opinion has achieved the right to be considered its replacement for what it intends to deliver. Thoughts?
  9. Cheers guys. Just about hit another. They must be coming out to see the sexy Monte!
  10. Apologies folks. You will see masking tape where I am glueing a couple of the broken supports for the front spoiler. Two in the middle are missing. Brokwn off all together. The offside bumper grill is also missing. I think this is the same as the SE and costs around £4. Unless I can get the front spoiler at a good price, I think I will have to make do. You can't really see them missing as they sit back. Any thoughts would be really apprecaited.
  11. Lost the offside bumper grill and broke two of the vallance supports. What is the cheapest fix and does anyone have part numbers. Thanks in advance.
  12. Totally fed up driving Monte on winters. Changed them back today. Like a different car. Handling much, much better. Also 105bhp engine now at 11k. Engine seems to be loosening off nicely. Reminds me of my Mk1 vrs. Ace!
  13. I had same issue with my wiper blade. I looked at it and saw rubber blade part had come out of the fitting. Two minute fix. Just a thought.
  14. I think I agree. Black it will be. Rub down, black hammerite with brush........wait until dry, wheels on. Job done. Bring on better weather. Thanks.
  15. Exact same issue with mine. Brush or spray best? Even just black? Do drums need to come off? Any experience and advice would be great.
  16. Just got my Monte back. 1st 10k done and cost £120 while I waited.
  17. Now done 100 or so miles on the Sunny full winter tyres on the four wheels. Bought to go on Monte so 205 40 17. They cost 55 quid each. Come with rim protection. Handling in dry quite good. I would say 75% of the summer Dunlops. In wet a bit less. I would say 60% the performance. Just not quite the grip and more vague. No snow yet but definitely good tread. No more noise which is good. In all quite pleased. Will definitely do the job. Just don't expect summer performance. As other thread says. Slight scuffs caused when changing we think caused when inflating so mention to fitters.
  18. Funny. I used to have Mk1 Fabia vrs. All alloys replaced after 30 months under warranty due to corrosion. Spoke to tyre fitter. Really nice guy. Took me through process and they would not have touched the fronts. He agrees there are faint marks and said he was so careful. Thinks it may be due to rim protector on tyres being so close to rim it may have happened until fully blown up. I believe him. The rim protectors practically sit on rims. Looking closely there are a lot of faint marks on the alloys not caused by fitter. So easily marked. I wonder how a winter will treat them. Thinking I should have got winter tyre and wheel set. I wonder how much 4 new genuine alloys would be to back on in spring and keep these for winter?
  19. Got my mate to look. He's a quality mechanic. He's not condemning the work. He thinks expensive but considering got tyres online possibly why. The marks have mostly t-cut out. The two small scratches are there and minor. Yes they shouldn't be so I might complain but my mate thinks I'm being fussy and on the same wheel there is a stone chip already. Worth bearing in mind. Black alloys. Very very easily marked. Doh! I'll sleep on it and look again. I think I'm more hacked off given price.
  20. Just got winter tyres supplied by Mytyres fitted at local place recommended to me. Cost 57.60. Expensive? Checked alloys and everyone has faint scuffs from machine. One has a scratch. Am I being fussy or is this to be expected on black alloys?
  21. I bought Sunny 3830 205 40 17 for my Monte from Mytyres. First two 51 quid. Second two were 57. Price rise in a week. Not fitted yet but they look good and reviews are good. Keep you posted.
  22. Ordered and received a set of Sunny 3830 - 205 40 17 winter tyres. Only cost 51 quid each from Mytyres delivered. They look good and test reports seem ok. Will fit them at end of month. Here's hoping they do a good job and the fact they were cheap in price mean they deliver poor results. Gulp. Will keep you posted.
  23. Lovely car but no longer for me. Exchanged for red Fabia Monte Carlo 105bhp 1.6 diesel. Here comes 60-70 mpg and 20 quid road tax. Picked up today. Love it.
