Hi all, I have a 2008 Scout estate and the rear wiper has stopped working. I have had it out, and apart, and tried 12v straight to the motor with the PCB removed and nothing happens. I bought a cheap used one from EBay to try a straight swap. Still nothing. I have searched the forum and figured out: Water ingress - looks very dry and washer is in the brake light, so maybe not. Tailgate open - Still nothing with it closed. Switch in the tailgate lock - where is that? And what am I testing for? The boot light isn't on as far as I can tell. But I do get water dripping out of the lock and down the back of my neck when I open the tailgate. Is that a sign that the lock/lock switch if the problem? So on the basis I might also have a dud replacement motor, is there an easy and simple way to test it without frying the PCB? What power and signals does it need in the plug? Can I check if there is the appropriate signals from the loom? I also have an MOT coming up. Should I just 'delete' the rear wiper altogether for that and deal with it after (is it even tested)? I bought a pair of those cheap Aldi 'aero' roof bars for my Scout. They howl really loudly from about 40mph! (They are also awful for other reasons but I have bent them now!) I reckon it is because of the open channel on the underside, like blowing across the top of a bottle. That is something to check with any roof bars. Some makes, from my research into the noise, offer a filler strip to close the channel once the spacing for the rail clamps has been decided. The old square tube bars I had on my Octi 1 hummed a little but not badly, but are a touch short for the scout.

Yes, it would seem that sod's law says that it will happen when it is going to get rained into over night. With that, and getting soaked at Tatton Flower Show. I am still trying to completely dry the car out. In this heat, getting in it is like entering a sauna!

Yes, if I can deactivate it that would be best. I can't see any occasion when opening all the windows by remote would be needed or helpful for me.

Ahhhh, yes! Great security, lock the doors but leave all the windows open!

It's a real PITA when it happens. I am going to have to test holding the button down for a long time when out of normal unlocking range to see it it is that. brb Ahhh, interesting. Remote has short range when I am on my drive, but about 20+m range from my upstairs window! Maybe the unlock has been pressed long enough to open the windows, then a short press to relock the door? This will be annoying to allow for.

Cheers. Definitely no children involved (as far as I know ). The doors were still locked and it happened over night when the keys were well out of range, so I am doubting I did it accidentally. I have pocket locked/unlocked before and I have to be within 2m of the car to get anything to happen, even when I want it to. Previous times it might have been raining too, can't quite remember. Just wondering if it might be water into the door?

This morning I found all the windows open on my pre FL scout. Yes, it has been raining heavily over night. Yes, the car is all wet inside. Yes, I have had to throw out my sweets and trade stuff that has been soaked in water. I assume this is a '(dis)comfort' mode thing to make my life easier by reminding me I need to wash the inside of my car once in a while. It is the third time this has happened. So far it has only happened when the car is safely on the drive, and nothing was taken from it. I am concerned that it will happen when I am out on a job and I will then have stuff taken from the car. Is there a way to remove this function completely so that even in some random fault the car stays closed and secure? Thank you.

One issue is the space for a second battery. The other thing is the battery will need to vent gases while charging. I don't think that is ok inside the cockpit of the car. If there was space somewhere underneath where I could bolt a battery box it would become a more realistic option. I could have done that on the old car but never got around to it. I never had an occasion where I couldn't restart the engine due to using the inverter but I did have to renew the battery more often though.

That is great advice for those who don't know. If I use a fuse box/bus bar terminal then I can bring the 25mm down to fit into a 10mm crimp eye. I have been nosing around in that space, and I don't think going direct to the battery is going to work as the cover is so tight. I wasn't sure if the bus bar would handle another really big load on it, but the starter terminal would be an option I guess. I still can't find a way to route the cable though, even dropping it under the car and fixing it under the floor. I can feel a loom grommet in the bulkhead behind the battery but it is in a double wall section so it doesn't come though directly under the dash. I think maybe the loom there goes sideways under the windscreen area to the internal fuse box? I even thought about up the windscreen A pillar and through the roof lining but I think keeping the cable to the floor would be better.

Yes. The previous set up had a 100A fuse at the battery end, and a 75A fuse at the inverter. The compressor ran on 240v from the inverter on its own 3A fuse. Do you know what the fuses at the distribution bus bar are called? That would cause more split charging issues as they would discharge into each other. And both spaces will be full of inverter and compressor anyway. Also with a bit of rethink I am not sure a lead acid battery inside the car is such a good idea anyway, now.

I have a pre FL 2008 Scout 2.0 tdi. In my previous work car, 2001 Octavia estate, I had a 240v inverter in the boot for charging tool batteries, running power tools on site, and for a small silent compressor. I want to install one in the Scout but can't see an easy route to run a big 25mm welding cable (big to reduce volt drop). Has anyone any tips as to how and where I could get a cable from the battery to the boot without drilling big holes in the body? The inverter will live in the boot cubby on the OS, with a compressor hiding with the CD changer on the NS. I think I can get the cable out through a grommet where the existing wring exits the spare wheel well to behind the bumper and then route under the car, as I did on the old Octy mk1. Is there a better route through the inside, preferably without removing all of the trim and half the dash? The cable will need to terminate at the battery but the battery box is so snug over the battery that I don't know if I can terminate there. There is a bus bar with some big fuses, could I use that? I am thinking of 100A fuse, either on the bus bar or inline on the cable. Thoughts please? I'd prefer to install a second battery in the boot, on a split charge, but I don't have space for one. I bought my 2008 pre FL Scout 2.0TDi earlier this year for £2400. Nice car, but even when I drive it really carefully, keeping the revs below 2000rpm, and using the cruise control for those long motorway runs at 65mph, it still returns worse consumption then my old 2001 Octy 1.9tdi estate. My averages seem to be in that 40-45mpg per tank, whereas the old Mk1 was still getting 55+mpg per tank doing the same trips. I only bought the Scout as the mk1's turbo has failed and I needed another cheap car for work. This one was really cheap and gave me 4x4 and a little more ground clearance for loading and towing on rough tracks.

Ahh, thanks, no, I don't have Maxidot then. Mine is a pre FL scout. I'll get used to it, but I do miss my Octavia mk1.

Haha, sorry, I've been busy. Mostly work, but also learning Welsh! I'm not even tweeting as much as I usually do and twitter is logged in all the time!

OK, I don't know if this is a fault, or other daftness in the car. If I click the indicator stalk either direction the indicators function as they should, and cancel when I cancel the indicator. If I give a momentary tap on the stalk, ether deliberately or by accident, the indicators keep flashing in that direction and won't cancel. If I give it a tap the other way then the other indicators keep flashing. Even properly indicating with the stalk clicked on and then back off, doesn't always cancel the flashing. Sometimes it takes a few left and right clicks on the stalk to stop the flashing. Doesn't happen every time, but maybe three times in four. It makes me look like I am messing about. Anyone else come across this? And what can I do to stop it? Thank you.

Cheers, I found the forum back in 2011 after the clutch pedal fell apart on the Octy 1. I was on holiday with my then girlfriend of a few months, Sue, visiting my God daughter and her family. With everyone in the car for a day out the clutch pedal 'popped' and broke. I managed to keep driving without the clutch until I could pull over somewhere safe to inspect it. Once I know what was wrong I found a Halfords and bought some tools and a load of hose clamps. I made a temporary repair at the road side using the hose clamps (they were rubbish) and wiper blade spring wire. While I was upside down in the foot well, Sue was playing with the hose clips and found one that fitted on her finger so she put it on and showed me. That was when she decided I was a 'keeper' as I would calmly just solve the 'problem' with random stuff and get us all home safely. She proposed in 2012 and we married two years later. Good thing these Skodas! The repair held out for the rest of the holiday, and about 350 miles of driving, until we got home. I then found the clutch pedal fix on the forum and did a belt and braces weldup that has held ever since. Sue was equally impressed when the battery died a couple of years ago at the allotment and I found a way to 'wind the car' up a slope to park it out of the way of the access gate. Sue held the brake between 'winds' to stop the car rolling back down.
