  1. Hi all, driving to work tonight and went to make a phone call but found no response to the pushing the left roller for voice command, thinking my phone may have been disconnected for some reason i pressed the phone button, again no response, checking further i found that i could scroll with the scroll wheels but got no response to any pushbutton controls. I've had no airbag lights or faults flagged, though i can't run a scan until im home tomorrow. Been trying to read up, but can't seem to find an answer one way or another, i did find one thread where a chap had identical issues to me, frustratingly he never said if he worked out the issue or not and doesnt appear to have visited the forum since 2020. I can't imagine its related simply due to the timeframe, but years ago i did have a phone call "Freeze" where i had to hang up on my phone as the car controls were nonresponsive, turning the ignition on and off again cleared this however. 2011 MK2 Saloon 257000M Thanks for any advice on the matter. Tony.
  2. Hi all, As fitted my 2011 superb has motorised and heated mirrors, coming home from work last week I had a Jag come too fast around a corner and took my O/S mirror clean off, broke the casting at the hinge. I opted to get a mirror from the breakers yard, so matched the part numbers (3T0857934). The new mirror has turned up and is now fitted as I needed the car, however it has 9 wires, rather than the 12 mine originally had and does not seem to fold to the same degree as the N/S (original) mirror does. So a couple of questions, * Does anyone here know what electrical differences this new mirror might have? I can see connections on the glass for the heated mirror are present, the mirror moves correctly on the controller and the mirror body does fold as expected, the mirror body also still houses the LED indicator and the downlight in the base of the mirror, im not sure what else the extra 3 wires in the old mirror could have done? * why would the new mirror not fold as far? It may just be me, as I never really took note of how far the old mirror folded, or it it was to the same degree as the N/S or not, however my partner actually pointed it out, wondering if it was working correctly and since looking at it, I cant help but wonder. My only guess Is a slight variance in mirror models despite them seemingly having the same part numbers. The new mirror is off a slightly newer car, a 2013 rather than a 2011.
  3. Just a quick update, I thought I'd see what happens with the antenna disconnected from the Bluetooth module, I got a new fault code; 9458451 So would this suggest that the code I allready get (9458449) Is not the antenna as I thought it was?
  4. I have a 1.6 TDI which has allways 'ticked' ~3 times on shutdown but recently has started ticking rhythmically all the time the engine is running. I've had a chat with a couple of people and the current working theory is that the EGR is the culprit. I cant say I know the 1.8tsi, so this may or may not be relevant, but what you've described does sound similar.
  5. Hi Folks, Looking to try and rid the old girl of some codes, most have been present for as long as I can remember, but have been ignored as they've never had any noticeable effect on the vehicle. I currently have 5 codes P0101-Mass or Volume air flow "A" Circuit Range/Performance (has had a new MAF however Its non genuine and I belive is still causing the code so will be swapped for a genuine and see if that makes a difference) 07330-Manafacturer Specific Code (Struggling to find any reference to the definition of this code?) 9481988-Air quality sensor- internal system fault (Just awaiting a new sensor) 9458449-Manafacturer Specific Code (Looks like a celluar antenna fault?) 02256-quiescent current (Most likely the 12v charger that is plugged in all the time, never bothered to look further as I've never had battery drain issues) Scanned with an old Carista bluetooth obd2 reader. The two that I'm focusing on at the moment are the undefined code 07330 and the Cellular Antenna. I've done a fair old trawl through Google and I really can't find much on 07330 only one site seems to reference it ; "07330 Description And Summary : Diameter in engine evaporative emission system switching valve control, circuit low It could be due to limited air getting through your air intake shift lock, open and exhaust gas temperature sensor bank 1 sensor 1, circuit intermittent will delay your vw fault." How accurate this is, im not sure. Otherwise there's the antenna, which is what I've dug into today, Now I'm not familiar with the bolero/columbus units, their options and extras. All I can tell you is that as far as I'm aware my car is still as built from factory, it has a non navigation bolero unit, a shark fin antenna and a 5NO prefix Bluetooth module which does have a purple FAKRA connected to it, which I understand to be the GPS Antenna (presumably in the shark fin?) However I have no radio reception issues which in other posts I have read would suggest that the shark fin is not at fault? I've read through so much on the nav/bluetooth/radio/phone systems that at this point I can't really see the wood for the trees 🤣 so any guidance would be much appreciated. Sorry for the long post, it's been a slow day at work! Thanks all, Tony
  6. Thank you all for the replies, It's a 1.6Tdi, I honestly didn't realise they took as long as that to bed in, the disks are relatively new and are clean so therefore braking in my mind across the full braking surface. It is indeed that same design, I will make sure to grease it, ive never noted any resistance in the lever however, I will have to check for many clicks bit I feel like it's more than the 4-5 with a good pull Thanks for confirming my thoughts matey. it certainly is, thankfully my old man was of the same mind, hence parking in gear and so on, unfortunately I missed the fact that it was a dropped kerb (nose overhanging my parents drive) so it just ran up the kerb and around the corner down the hill. I will certainly check that, however the handbrake was still in a raised position when I went to retrieve the car.
  7. I assure you it was, its the only thing that stopped it before the main road.. I actually went and checked, driving down the hill, I stopped on the footbrake turned off the ignition, let the clutch up in first as I let off the brake and the first rotation of the engine felt a bit like hitting a kerb, it thumped into it, but had enough to just about overcome the compression and once it was away the car just kept rolling. I had to stop it again with the footbrake. It is a fair old slope this road, and I cabt imagine it helps that its a small engine in a sizeable car (1.6) and its probably fairly well worn internally. Something else I considered but don't honestly know, Pistons are designed to seal against very high pressures for a very short time, but I cant imagine they are actually that air tight, I mean piston rings are split, the ends only butt up against each other, so in my mind, with a constant Weight sat against an engine, the pressure against the pistons could bleed off over time allowing it to spin, then it's own momentum can carry it as I proved, in theory anyway.
  8. Hi all thanks for the replies. To answer a few bits, the calipers slide with no issue, I checked this when I changed the pads, condition of the disks is good, they were changed last time the pads were renewed. I will go ahead and check the cables and lever end adjustment. While I'm ot strictly speaking a qualified motor mechanic. By trade im a mechanical engineer currently working on the railway but have in the past worked on agricultural machinery, my dad was a self employed motor mechanic and I spent my childhood working alongside him. So I'm very confident that I'm able to safely do the job. Besides, a qualified mechanic was stood beside me as I did the work 🤣 I had considered disk contraction, as has been stated several times, its just not something I personally have ever come across with this car. If it is disk contraction, can anyone suggest a way of dealing with it, I dont imagine the cable really has the spring in it to accommodate the movement and I dont really want to risk stretching/snapping cables by wrenching the handbrake up. Should it be something like the cables should have a level of spring in them but they have stretched over time and lost that? I could go through theories all day, there are people here far more experienced with superb than I am though hence my asking. Thank you again for all those that have replied.
  9. Hi all, something has gone awry with my 11 plate superb. Visiting my folks in Yorkshire and from the living room I heard my alarm, I looked out the window to see the motor trundling off down the hill towards the main road, much excitement ensued as I'm sure you can imagine. The car was parked in 1st with the handbrake on.... So I can only conclude the handbrake needs adjusting. It's never been that good but in previous discussions I've simply been told that it's self adjusting and there's not much that can be done, that's surely not right? It can't be normal for a car to run off down a hill by itself! Are the calipers known for wearing in some peculiar way, the service brakes are absolutely fine, no spongeyness or anything, I actually replaced the rear pads yesterday, I didnt spot anything untoward and I have since driven 3-400 miles with no issues, so everything should be well bedded in. Any thought would be greatfully received, I'd quite like to get this sorted ASAP.
