Hi all, I have a predicament. My Y reg 2001 Skoda Fabia with 116k on the clock has (to the best of my knowledge) never had its cambelt replaced. I need to have an MOT in order to re-tax and insure it, but I'm guessing this would be required by the garage. Can anyone please give me a good guide price and any other nasty surprises that might pop in an MOT for a Fabia of this age? The car is currently abroad and I don't really want to have to lug it all the way to the UK to then have to spend loads on it. If it's not worth it, I might just scrap it. Thoughts?

Ok, it's not a very technical explanation, but our Skoda Fabia Y reg with 109k on the clock is making some odd noises. We've always had the squeaks and dashboard creaks, which we understand are normal with older Skodas. However, more recently the engine has taken to making a very strange noise that sounds like you need to change gear or something. It's like a high pitched whirring noise. Has anyone else had this issue and/or knows what it would be? I'd rather not let the local Garage charge us an hours labour to try and find the problem. And of course, how much would it cost to fix? I prefer the RS. The first one is minging, although an improvement on the older Fabia estate. Quite frankly, I believe people should be arrested for driving those.

Hi, Does anyone know if Skoda plan on bringing out a VRS version of the new model? Pictures are even better! I have to confess, I'm not that keen on the new version, but it's certainly got more gadgets - the mini-jack input for the iPod is certainly worth a good think! And I suspect the VRS version would look much better. Thanks

Hi everyone, Just a quick one, out of interest more than anything. I have a Y reg, 2001 Classic 8v Fabia, all standard spec unfortunately. I'm a little frustrated with the stereo. It's hard to explain, but basically when listening to the radio, for the first 5-10 seconds, the quality is clear and great. But then suddenly, it's like the volume goes right down and it's been surpressed somehow. All the crispness and clarity is lost and it sounds dull and muffled. If I then re-tune slightly, say if I'm listening to Radio 1 I'll go up one on the dial, it re-sets - I get another 5-10 seconds of clear quality before it goes dodgy again. Has anyone else experienced this, or is it just me? Is there any way to avoid it perhaps? Thanks, Teej

Hi everyone. Well, I took the air grill off yesterday and saw said bracket. I took a cork as suggested to prop between the metal bar and the dash. Just as I was fiddling with the cork, it slipped and now it's lost in the bowels of my dashboard somewhere.... Needless to say I was annoyed, but then my father in law had a look at it and gave it a good whack: Seems to have solved the problem...for now.

Greetings all... Driving home recently in the dark in my 2001 Fabia Classic, a number of motorists flashed me. I checked my lights and all was normal. A few moments later, I turned the corner to face some guy who suddenly went on a flashing craze!! I flashed him back but he seemed unditurbed from his errand to flash his lights in some state of uber road rage! (does anyone else get annoyed with motorists like that?) Any thoughts anyone? I've since turned my light direction from position 0 to 1. This seems to have stopped people flashing me. I recently changed one full beam bulb, but I can't see would be the problem...clearly people think my lights are on full beam when they are not.

Hi everyone, Any ideas why my dashboard on my 2001 Y reg Fabia creaks so much? I didn't even notice it until my mechanic friend pointed it out. I've read some other similar sites where people have pointed this out. The consensus seems to be that most learn to live with it. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks
