  1. So I heard back from my loca dealer/Skoda service centre: £322 for the full size 17" spare wheel £109 for a matching tyre £12.50 for fitting. A bit steeper than I was thinking it would be. But from everyone's comments here it would be worth it.
  2. Thanks for your insight, with my tyres being 225/45R17 I would assume a full size would fit? calculator comes up with 635mm OD. Makes sense that a wider tyre wouldn't fit as I Imagine the well is slightly conical in shape.
  3. Thank you for all the input. I had a feeling people prefer spares over goop. but just thought it would be worth asking. I agree with your sentiment on the space saver, it just needs to go a short way. With your being 19" wheels what is your tyre's OD? Would they be the same as mine, but with a smaller sidewall? if so then I may well go for a space saver. MY OCD would also eat away at me if the floor was uneven/ raised over the spare!
  4. Hey all, so my car has the tyre repair kit, with the VW goop and compressor. However the goop had been used by the previous owner as the bottle is empty and the compressor's 12v connector cable is all loose. So I am currently without any method of dealing with punctures. The price of new goop seems astronomicaly high, in the order of £50. Some cheaper prices on eBay... From what I can see, a spare wheel kit is in the order of £150. So I am wondering if it's a more cost effective long term solution to get a spare wheel kit, preferably a Skoda one. I haven't pulled out the big polystyrene mass under my boot floor so I am unsure of the geometry down there. Some initial questions I have about going down the spare wheel route are: - This may seem like a really silly question but I can't seem to find clarification that spare wheels come with tyres? Does this differ between full size and space savers? - Do Skoda do space savers or full size spare wheels? Or both? - does the geometry of the area under the boot floor mean the wheel will sit snug and not slide around? - My car's wheels are 17", if I get space saverI am guessing I would need to have a wheel with an equally sized centre. - is it advised to go with a wheel and kit not made by the same manufacturer as the car? Some advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
  5. Castol search result gave: "Castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL" the amazon page listed its Product Specifications: SAE 5W-30; ACEA C3; MB-Approval 229.31/ 229.51; Porsche C30; VW 504 00/ 507 00
  6. This may help any people like myself that get a surprise warning light pop up saying to check oil level. which was down to the bottom 1/4 on the dip stick range. After having had the car 6 months and it only had 4k miles on the clock when i got it, i'd heard oil consumption was high for the first 5k miles or so. my manual saud contact your local skoda dealer, very helpful. The skoda website section on oil had a small piece saying Castrol is approved for Skoda engines. So I then went over to the Castrol website and they have a very useful search filter: Manufacturer, model, engine. which yielded a product and so i went and ordered it off of Amazon. The specs matched up compared to those mentioned in the manual so was pretty confident I got the right one. Again, this is just how I went about trying to ID the oil in my engine/ a suitable one to put in. Hopefully someone may find it useful.
  7. Installed OEM pedal covers and door sill protectors. Following advice from other forums, the clutch and brake pedals took 30s each, the accelerator however was an absolute pig to get on. Even when using the handy advice of heating it in hot water. Took lots of leverage, but eventually it went on. Really happy with how they look. The door sill covers were easy. Used a degreaser to clean the area before installation, didn't have the matrices as referenced in the booklet, but just took my time eyeballing where the curved ends looked even. Finally I used masking tape to mark where the ends would sit. With the pedal covers in place I'm now really considering the Superskoda footrest to make the foot well match.
  8. Mine came with rear mudflaps, might think about ones for the front. In the pipeline I have lined up: Genuine rubber floor mats, Sport pedal covers and door sill protectors. Also thinking of the boot tray that hangs under the parcel shelf, and maybe some gas struts for the bonnet. Was there any noticeable difference once you put the filter in? Is the stock one a cheap cost saver or is it decent enough?
  9. Hello everyone, I decided to make myself an account on here, having read a few useful threads and thought it would be a good place to post pictures of my car whenever I get the urge to take some snaps of it. I've certainly gained some inspiration for some mods. I am a relatively new owner of a 2018 (68 reg) Mk 3 hatchback in SEL trim, with a 1.5 TSI 150BHP engine and manual 6 speed gearbox. I love the colour - Race blue! I bought my Octavia as an approved used vehicle from my local dealer back in April, it had just over 4k miles on the clock. I love it, its a wonderful car with a big interior and the trim level gives it a nice smart feeling inside. My girlfriend is always commenting on how I have a nice fancy car now. I upgraded from a 2007 Vauxhall(Opel) Astra which had somewhat regular problems with the engine. So after saving a lot and keeping my eye out for a bargain, I got my Octavia quite a lot cheaper than a brand new one would have been. So i'm very happy and now looking into subtle cosmetic Mods to make it my own. Here are some edited/ filtered pics I took of it from the latest bank holiday weekend, after it had a darn good wash.
