  1. Thanks all for the suggestions, we leave on Monday and hopefully won't be washed away!! I'll follow what is says inside of the filler cap and monitor them as we travel, I also take a gauge with me as well as you never know what happens.
  2. Ok will do! Thanks for the advice, enjoy your camping trip. All the best
  3. Hi All, We are off on our annual trip to France very soon but this year we have got the kids bikes on the back of the Octy. Can anyone recommend tyre pressure for the extra weight as I usually use the guide that's inside of the filler cap. I have 225/45 R17 Bridgestones on a Octy 2005 1.6 Fsi. Bikes are x2. Thanks.
  4. I have exactly the same problem at the moment, and I followed the tips on here but to no to no avail. Took it to the local Indy who diagnosed the torque sensor and quoted me a similar price of £1200. Luckily I had taken out a policy with Motorway Direct (luckily they couldn't use the wear and tear get out!!) and they are footing the bill and I just have to pay the excess. Also if you don't get it resolved and then you come to sell it, I don't think many people are going to buy a car with "faulty power steering."
  5. No she wasn't on the wrong side of the road, she pulled in to the left to avoid the car that was in the centre of the small road that she was going down and hit a parked car. Thankfully the car that she hit was ok.
  6. Dear all, I've just had a call from the wife to say that she has taken the passenger side wing mirror clean off because she had to avoid another driver who was coming towards her. I've done a quick google and come up with this site http://www.wingmirrorman.co.uk/Wing-Mirrors/Skoda/Skoda-Octavia . It's looks ok but has anyone else used this site or can anyone recommend any others? I'm planning to get it painted and then get the local garage to fit, can anyone tell me where paint code is and I'm also not sure about the info on the mirror surface it says its none but aren't they convex? I've got a 2005 Octy II 1.6 FSI Ambiente in green but not sure what kind green hence the code request!! Thanks.
  7. Just been out with the site manager with a torch and had a good look at the back and there were a few small stones gathered at the base brushed them all out and the pedal is all ok. Thanks for that. Will have to keep it tidy from now one. csoccb
  8. Hi everyone, I was driving to work this morning as usual and then out of nowhere a unmarked police car came screaming to the junction, everyone braked sharply and including myself, but when I came to put my foot on the gas the car didnt respond. For a second I thought my foot on the foot rest but then I realised that I did have the foot on the correct pedel but it had gone really stiff. I pulled over switched off waited 5 mins and tried again but still the pedal was stiff. The rest of the way to work was spend pressing hard on the top bit of pedal to get the car going. I've checkd to see if the carpet is stuck but its fine and there is nothing else behind it. I've just gone out to it to see if it has gone back but it's still the same way. Would anyone know what would have caused it? Many thanks
  9. Dear members, I have a strange one here. Came out of the gym tonight and jumped in the car as normal, started it up and noticed that there was no bing bing sound for the seat belt, didn't think nothing of it until i switched on the lights and found that the dash did'nt light up. Switched off waited a few seconds and tried again and still no light. On closer inspection it looks like apart from no light the indicators speedo, rev counter and gauges all do not work. The indicators, headlights and brakelights do work on the outside so I had to drive home with no dash which was interesting. Has anyone come across this problem before? Could it be a fuse or short some where? Thanks
  10. Thanks for that, I will have a look and see what I can see. csoccb
  11. Dear members, Can anyone advise or direct me to the correct settings for a 4 wheel alignment for a MkII 05 Ambiente? Not sure if this is of use but I have 17" Pegasus wheels. Thanks.
  12. Hi Forum members, For some reason the steering wheel icon on the instrument panel has an amber light on it up after driving around on the weekend. I've turned the engine off and on and it's still there, I haven't change the battery or anything like that so I'm a bit mistified. I've checked the manual and it says "Yellow warning light lights up, this indicates a partial failure of the power steering and the steering forces can be greater." Can anyone tell me what the problem could be? Can I still drive it with the amber light on? Can I take the car to my local garage or does it need to go back to a dealer? Another question I have is can anyone tell me where I can find somewhere around the Bromley Kent area who does a 4 wheel alignment, as when I drive over ironworks in the road I can feel the rear of the car give a slight "kick out". I do try and avoid them!! Also does anyone have the correct setttings to cure this? Tyre pressures and wear are all fine. My car is a 2005 Octavia II 1.6 FSI Ambiente with 225/45 17 Bridgestone Potenza tyres. Thanks
  13. Glad it's all sorted now. Happy to be of service.
  14. Hi there, Just to update on the noise that I've been having. Took the car to the dealer and took the engineer out and again he said that it might be something to do with the exhaust but I had to correct and tell him that it wasn't. Anyway they called me later in the afternoon saying that they had cured the problem. On the report sheet they give you after having work done this is what is says :- "Checked for vibration, coming from front of air box to heat exchanger, removed it and re-fixed with trim and sealant. Carried out road test." As I drove home there was no noise and it was completed under warranty. wega3k, I read your other thread, hope all goes well tomorrow with your probs. CSOCCB
  15. Cheers for that Lummox, hopefully what you mentioned will do the trick and I'll have a nice quiet car again. CSOCCB
