  1. True. Looks like I cant avoid a trip to the garage!. Can anyone recommend a good garage in Birmingham?
  2. Changed fuse 8. Still no fan. Looks like the supressor needs to be taken out OR the fan is blown. Either way I need to take it to the garage :(
  3. many thanks guys. Looks like best resolved at the garage! The fuse 8 is indeed blown. Looks like the AA guy changed it and it blew again indicating that the fan is gone. Last question - How expensive is the fan? And is it easy enough to change?
  4. Noise suppressor?! So can I directly wire it (as shown in the photo in the original mail) bypassing the burnt out bit? Will try it out?
  5. Many thanks! The car is a 1.4 Petrol silverline. I have had it since new so I know it has not been modified. I have attached the engine spec. If anyone can help me diagnose what this is I would ideally like to try and change it myself. If I have to take it to a garage, it still helps to know what they are fleecing me for! As things stand - radiator fan does not run and car overheats. The AA guy said he tried to fix it to "always on" but could not. Briskodian - if you need any more information, please let me know.
  6. Dear All, My wife's faithfull runaround is the 2001 Fabia (1.4 Petrol). First hot day of the year and on the school run yesterday, the car overheated causing a minor ovespill of coolant. She called the AA guy and the diagnosis was that the "Fan resistor is burnt". She was shown the terminal wire in the battery connector box (just above the battery) which is burnt oot revealing a sort of melted down plastic on a coil of spring! I have seen it this morning and I have attached a picture of the component. What is this "resistor"? Is this the automatic timer cut-out? Any help .... will be helpful. Cheers and waiting for the firendly sokda drivers to respond Ros
  7. Hi All, One of my key fobs has stopped working. Howcan i check the battery ? (I could not pierce it open....). Can it be anything else ? the second fob works fine... Thanks Ros
  8. Hi All, My wife's Fabia Mk1 which she has had since new (2002) has a knocking sound from the front passenger side when going over bumps, cornering etc., i.e. typical symptoms described in an older thread ..http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/knocking-noise-front-maybe-broken-anti-roll-bar/73402/ Since I am not as advanced an engineer as some of you guys on this forum are !! can anyone suggest a good independent garage to do this is Birmingham ? I would like to change the bushes only instead of the whole assembly. Strangely, I had this done at the skoda all electric paying them almost £350 two years ago, but the problem is back. This time i will want to go independent as only the bushes need changing. Thanks in anticipation Rohit
  9. Hi, I have a 2002 Fabia 1.4 Petrol. Just went for 6th year service (although it has done 35k). The service instecption lcd is showing after the service. Can i reset it myself ? I dont wantto go back to the dealer as it is a fair distance. Please help ! ROS
  10. Hi All, My wife has a Fabia (2002 Mk1). The Driver side wing mirror has cracked. The mirror and its movement assembly is still working but the back cover has a nastry crack in it. It is a manual type. 1. Can i get a cover only or do i need a full assembly ? 2. Where can i get it from ? I dont mind a used one. The car is silver but the back cover is black. 3. Is it is a DIY job ? Thanks in anticipation ! Ros
  11. Hi all, I posted my first question earlier this evening. I had an answer within an hour and i had done the job (installed symphony) in the next 10 minutes ! Thankys guys ! I have got a Nokia CK-7W kit lying around the house. I want to install it. I really dont need the cradle as i understand that it has a bluetooth whihc will work for me. So my question is what cabel/connector do i need to route the kit through the symphony speakers. And morever, is it compatible ? How big is this job ? The reason is that local garages tend to rip off unsuspecting shool-run mums ! School-run-fabia
  12. Now if only i can find a picture hook....
  13. Hi All, This may sound like a completely daft question given that some of you are discussing very very advanced technical topics ! I have a Skoda Fabia 2002 which I have had since new. I recently purchased a CD player (Skoda Symphony same fit) as the original had only a tape player. How do i remove the existing player ? I am sure there is some bit of plastic o need to poke...but given that i am a technically challenged (woman), some help fro m the techies would be appriciated. PS: I asked the skoda garage to fit it. They ask for
