  1. Hi thanks for your replies, I'm sorry mine is late, been away. I have had it sorted out by my local garage before i went, thanks again.
  2. Hi, I am after advice on where to buy a steering rack from. Are there any differences in quality or do they all come out of the same factory? There are differences in price, my usual local repairer got a quote fot £146 +vat , I've shopped around and it varies from £136 - £185 + vat / dealer wanting £566 inc Can anyone recommend a supplier or ones to avoid? Thanks
  3. Hi, I've got a 02 Estate L&K and had it from 3 years old. I have had no problems with the head lights and it now has 200 K on it, I hope this helps.
  4. Hi I 02 plate 1.9 Estate has just clocked 202,000. When I got the car at 100K I had a dealer fitted clutch & flywheel put in. It's now wanting another one, how good are the after market ones? I have been quoted £400 for Aftermarket ( Not sure of the make) & £550 for Dealer, I hope the flywheel will be ok this time, the Dealer said double the quote to include the flywheel. Aftermarket + £240 Has anyone had a good Aftermarket clutch fitted? Cheers

  6. Hi All, I have a question which I would appreciate for people to comment on. The question is: If you had the inner and outer Track rod arms replaced at the dealer, would you expect that the tracking automatically done as part as the job? Yes unfortunately this happened to me, where apparently I was told verbally that I had declined any tracking, I replaced the tyres and not knowing and the near side tyre (inside edge) rubbed off. I have spoken to some small independent garage's who said that the tracking is part of that particular job. If I had known that it was not tracked I would have had it done straight after the work. Just thought I would mention this in case it happens to anyone else.
  7. I have got a 02 L+K estate and just had a MOT done, they have told me that the welded joint to the CAT has gone. The rest is in poor condition. The question is should I get the replacement from Skoda or elsewhere. Thinking about price and how long they will last. It is the original one that is on now so it has done well. My experience with none genuine is that they do not last that long. Is there any good alternative compared to dealer. Thanks
  8. Update. I went to the dealer today; they were re-centering the tracking for me after having had the inner track rods renewed. I asked if he could listen to the A/C to see if he could find anything wrong, he came back and said there was nothing visual and I would be better to live with the noise for now, he said it would probably require a compressor to fix it. And that is £500 + just for the part. I am just wondering, I have never had the A/C topped up, if it was low on pressure could this cause the pump to switching on and off thus causing the noise. I may have the A/C Re-Gassed what do you think? Cheers Shappy
  9. Hi I had the same done to mine last year at Skoda. Timing Belt and water pump. I asked to speak to the head mechanic and asked him his thoughts on it. He said if it looked worn he would suggest replacement. I said I would prefer if it was I asked him what his best price was and after conferring he said they could do it for £360 Inc vat. I would have the water pump done it is only about £30 to £40 on top. Hope this helps Ps. if you book in with the dealer you will get a hire car for your trouble. Also my local Garage said they would not touch the job without doing the water pump because they have had too many fail afterwards. Cheers Shappy
  10. Hi, you say the bolt can work loose, is this something that can be tightened up in situe. Could you explain briefly where about it is? Is it holding the pulley on which the belt drives? I am going to have a look. And leave the air con off for now. I had both tie rods fitted at Skoda the other day and I need to go back for re-adjustment to re-centre the steering wheel. I will ask them to have a quick look if possible. Thanks for both of your replies. Cheers Shappy
  11. Hi, 1.9 Tdi with 174,000 on the clock. I noticed recently that I have got a noise, usually when the car is first started. I investigated and found out that it stopped when I turned the air con off. I can not be certain but it seems to coming from the pump (if that is what it is?) running on the belt right at the top of the engine. Can anyone give me any info on this part? How much to replace. I am not that happy to say that I had the Timing belt and water pump changed around 9 months ago at Skoda. I was advised by someone to do the water pump at the same time because the new belt can cause them to fail after. I guess this may be what has happened to this item now. My main concern is if it fails is it likely to take the belt out with it? What are your views? Cheers Shappy
  12. Hi, you could be right. I could have been quoted incorrectly; I am going to call in to the dealer and double check. Someone today said that they will be a lot more than that for genuine parts. I have seen these being removed on a different vehicle, on u tube and they did have a special tool to help remove the inner lock nut. cheers shappy
  13. I have just had my MOT done and was advised that the Inner Tie rods will need replacing. Should I get Skoda parts or after market ones. The ones at Skoda are £28+vat and the aftermarket ones are £20 +vat. Does anyone know if the boot and inner and outer clips are included? (I forgot to ask that). Have any of you changed these, I know you can get a special inner nut extractor, is it awkward to remove without it? Hope you can help. Cheers Shappy
