  1. I have to go down this road myself so this tread is invaluable to me ! I have it on both sills along with the back quarters where the back bumper meets 😐
  2. Hi Alasdair ! Sounds like one of the cables has snapped - I drilled out the rivets themselves on the regulator assembly and put in M4 rivnuts with M4 bolts- this means any more bother and I can just unbolt the full assembly It's a long job but there are very good videos on YouTube Hat Boy Harvey is especially clear- just take your time and just make sure of everything as you go along - I made a few gaffes myself and had to strip off stuff again twice 😀
  3. I got a fairly good resolution Hella artwork and contacted a sign outfit to make them up - Needless to say they ignored me 😒- I'll have to get on the case again I broke the bumper by hitting the branch of a tree that had blown down in a storm on the blind side of a corner - That was over 3 years ago - I really feel guilty about the ratty state of my car especially when I see how clean and tidy you all have yours - My car is in constant use so I will try and get her sorted in May when we are on hols. Lads if you really want these I'm more than happy to oblige - I will see if I can sneak a few extra in there 👍
  4. If youve had most of it apart just do a spanner check on it all again and make sure nothing obvious has been missed or is adrift Are all mounts for the wiring loom in place ? - Anything catching or rubbing ? Are all the belts at the correct tension ? Was the timing belt changed? Alternator, waterpump bearings ? Alternator pulley freewheel ? When exactly is the noise most prevalent - What has changed to make the noise better or worse This isnt easy for us to pin down without the car itself so you have to just go in with an open mind, look at the evidence, take nothing as a given, try and narrow the problem to an area and work down from that. Let us know how you get on as it will help narrow it down !!👍
  5. @StevesTruckGreat suggestion ! They are 86mm in diameter so it wont be a big job to go to a sign outfit with a high res logo and get Hella decals made up ... Just to continue the pointless exercise 🤣 My time would probably be better spent fixing both bumpers and getting the interior tidied up Remember David Sutton's Audi driven by the real Stig in 1984 ? Its not that obvious but there are 6 Hella Rallye 2000's mounted on the front 😉
  6. Hi All We at work recently got a Prusa 3D printer with a 200x200 bed. We were all told to learn how to operate said machine and it would be bad manners not to make up a homer or 2 just for the practice you all understand !! So we made a part for our coffee machine to keep the splashes down - phone holders - microscope lens holders and a cup holder for an Audi TT We made these foglight covers up just for the craic - They serve no real purpose as Fabia foglights are really strong any way and you could probably use them on a track day or if you had to block them for whatever reason The foglight glass is domed so doing it again we would probably dome the covers to match so for the minute they have a flat outside face ! We will have to try and get our heads round that one - We wont go commercial yet and I cant see us being on Dragons Den 🤣 What do yous think ?
  7. A workmate has a 10 reg 1.6 CR Octavia that he has from brand new. Like everyone else he started at the dealer, then independants - now he does all the rudimentary maintenance himself and anything that's difficult he gets "Dave" Last year our dealer was doing deals on timing belt replacements for €350 all in for his type of engine - I contacted them as mine needed doing and at that price with genuine parts why not ! When I gave the reg no they said "Oh let me find out" They came back with €710 + VAT - I said about the deal and they basically told me that "That car is too old and parts would be hard to get" What they really wanted to say was "We don't want your tatty 18 year old car seen anywhere next or near this place as It will only create a bad impression for our new car buying customers" I got a Gates kit and pump and got Dave to do it for way less than that. This is my cars last stop so me keeping a rough history is probably nice to have but a fully stamped service book from a dealer is pointless to me anyway.
  8. Well im no expert but the brother in laws Mk IV Golf TDi made that noise for years 😉 It sounds like the starter motor pinion gear is dry and causing friction on the shaft as it disengages. This should spin freely as the solenoid withdraws. To fix it the starter will have to come out and either take it to get refurbished or as a temporary measure load it with spray grease !! As I said I could be totally wrong but you can either rule it in or rule it out 👍
  9. Hi Jon This is a diagram that might be helpful to you in diagnosing the issue. It might be a bit fuzzy
  10. 🤣 No Not guilty this time Sep. That's way too tame for us over here .....! You all need to visit the Donegal Rally 16th to 18th June this year. That's all we will say at this moment in time except we will show a picture of "The Genie" over Letterleague. I
  11. Aye thanks for that J.R. - I didn't take a photo of the damaged cable - It was chafed open and the conductor was exposed and probably over time and damp the conductor went "green" The choccy block was a temporary fix which is now permanent. The whole loom has been all re wrapped and some flexible trunking put on so its looking decent now ! I was told in the past that vibration would eventually break solder joints and to use connectors - This came from a tractor mechanic ...! Ive done a right bit of soldering over the years on cars and never had a problem with breakage or dry joints. A meter is a fair enough way of testing but as it only draws micro amps it wont draw sufficient current to expose a cable that is broken down ! No hiding place from a H7 bulb as it will draw around 5A. Just be mindful of which section you are testing as if its connected to the body control module you could damage it - It was the main feed from the battery in my case so this test Id say given the age of the cars now we will see a few age related issues like this starting to surface !! Thanks again lads for pointing me in the right direction 👍
  12. Yeah I've fallen down on the manners front so if anybody has taken the hump I do apologise - I hadn't a clue how the tag feature worked !! Thanks again all !! We
  13. Hi All Well we got to the bottom of the problem ! As Breezy Pete have me a really good line up ! We went for the ABS pump connector and it had 12v on both pin 7 and pin 25 When we tested both with a H7 bulb we found that 25 would not light the bulb properly - So the deduction from that was the loom had broken down - Although there was 12v it could not carry the current required ! We replaced a dodgy section and all is now well again The Fabia is now of an age where these problems will start to surface die to degraded looms. Lads Thanks a million for your help - Again this forum has saved the day and got me another NCT 👍
  14. Thanks a Mill for the info Pete ... I went through it all and it was like you said above - All fuses were intact and I replaced #6 with a fuse rather than wire 9 This wont make any difference I know but a fuse is there for a reason) Next step is to take out the airbox and disconnect the plug of the ABS pump and make sure that I am getting 12v at pin #7 and #25 If that all works out we can be certain that the pump is gone. Thanks again Pete - Really appreciated !
  15. Should we call the RSPCA ...? 🤣 Apologies Lynn but I couldn't resist that one - Childish I know 😒
