  1. Thanks 🙂 can’t remember if garage did that or not. I’m gonna run car for a week or so to monitor how it goes.
  2. Quick update. Dropped car into garage to mainly check if I had a water pump issue from the recent belt change but all reported back okay. Mechanic said he couldn’t find a trace of any leaks whatsoever, but ever since I had the belt changed I had been loosing coolant every 10 days and mixture of rubbish heating going cold occasionally. He couldn’t find any obvious leaks but did change the thermostat which seems to have resolved my heating problem now. He flushed e matrix out and did see deposits of some Radweld stuff so it’s quite possible the change of coolant as upset the radiator maybe and this is where I have a leak, but going to monitor for the next week or so. The head gasket has been tested and that’s all okay too. He did feel the radiator and it was flat cold, so that’s been bled and a lot of air did come out of it apparently. Took the car for a good 30 mile run yesterday, got to 90 quicker and maintained there, with heating staying nice and hot throughout - if anything too warm ha ha. I also really worked the turbo as been cutting out a lot and over the 30 miles, it didn’t cut out once. I did read the vanes stick more when the engine is cold and I’m wondering if the thermostat was meaning the engine was cold, so it was cutting out more but yesterday pulled much better and maintained boost - who knows. £20 for replacement thermostat so for now, I’ll hopefully be able to enjoy it for a good few months again.
  3. Thanks again JR. Its funny how you should mention that as I have just had a new thermostat fitter given my lack of heating and coolant issues, the car is running much hotter now and even with me really running through the gears yesterday, the turbo didn’t go into limp mode once. I’m wondering if the car was thinking it’s cold a lot due to the thermostat before and now it’s ok? Strange if so, but I’m happier - just gotta hope I don’t lose anymore coolant otherwise could be a radiator replacement next.
  4. Hi all, Me again When I got the car, the turbo would cut out and no boost, but a quick restart sorted that out. Since October, until last week - the car cut out 4 times I think in that time and 3,000 miles. However, in the last week it’s cutting out on a daily basis - sometimes more than once. I don’t have access to VCDs currently (trying to find someone with it) so wanted to describe the symptoms. 1. Sometimes boost goes when changing from 1st to 2nd at around 2,500 - 3,000 rpm 2. Sometimes goes above 3,000rpm in 3rd 3. Mainly seems to go in 5th at around 70mph/2,500rpm Came home Thursday, blasted it in 2nd and then 3rd - pulled brilliantly so it doesn’t happen all the time. There sounds like they could be a small air leak, but I am not sure where to start looking but from reading symptoms - it does point towards a boost sensor. I have read about the vanes too but I’m hopeful it’s more a sensor than cleaning the turbo. Anyone else experienced same issues? 1.9 TDI 110 ASV engine. Luke
  5. Well following on from this, the coolant light re-appeared this morning. I have now booked it back in the with garage who did the belt to sort it as it didn’t do it before. Now the turbo is dying a lot more often, I am hoping it’s just the boost sensor.
  6. Thanks JR. The fuel pump was sorted by the garage, luckily and that's fine now. I have just been out in the car and it was getting nice and warm, it tailed off slightly when I got on the drive but a little rev and warm air pushed back through so it seems like everything is working I think, but maybe still some air within the system. As I'm not mechanically minded, if there is air - how would coolant escape (or is it not?)
  7. Sounds similar to mine. Flew through on 170k too, I think original clutch and defo original exhaust, although slightly blowing on the flexi-pipe into the engine now but was only an advisory.
  8. Hi All, MK1 Octavia 1.9 TDI ASV (110) OK, so since having my timing belt replaced (really wish I had not bothered) I have had a few issues with the car. I'd really like peoples thoughts around this if possible... 1. Fuel pump was slightly out but this was fixed. 2. Coolant issues 3. Turbo pipe came off Items 1 and 3 are now fixed, can't fault that. On Saturday morning, after leaving the car stood for a couple of days - I checked coolant to find it had dropped again (2nd time in 3 weeks). Started it up and the coolant light started flashing, which I expected. Now I am trying to narrow down what the issue could be and I'm thinking it could be air in the system, although the header tank is the highest point of the system. So I did the following; 1. Started it up, with coolant cap off. 2. Let the car get upto temperature, with the air vents/heating on full and varied the revs. 3. After 25 minutes, the car was at 90 degrees and coolant had risen. 4. The heater inside was FLAT COLD though, no heat coming through. 5. I started to squeeze the pipes into the car - flow and return and the pipe did start to get warmer. 6. Topped up the coolant and left the engine running The car then was getting nice and toasty again, left it for a good 10 minutes and remained warm throughout. Yesterday, I took it for a run and left the car running whilst i nipped into B&Q (wife was in the car!) and the heaters remained warm - usually when stopping, they went cold. Have I fixed the issue? Was it just an airlock that causing me to loose coolant? I am not a mechanic, nor technically minded but I am trying my best to teach myself and learn it as I go along. One person on a Skoda group said it sounds like early signs of a head gasket, but not sure I am fully on-board with that given these issues have only started since the belt was changed. Any advice appreciated. I will obviously keep eye on the coolant in the meantime, garage are aware but given my not so great experience - I'd rather fix it myself first. Cheers
  9. It was relatively near to the offiside front wheel, although I moved the car this morning and nothing there - so I am starting to wonder if it is the air con? Unfortunately I don't have an undertray...
  10. Hi Buddy, I recently bought one too - 2002 with 168,000 miles on the clock. So far, it's been pretty good apart from a few issues caused since I have had my cambelt changed but hopefully getting to the bottom of them now. I'd give turbo a good test - if it goes into limp mode but no lights - then people say the vanes will be sticky in the turbo. Mine has done it 3 times in 4 months (3,500 miles). Check calipers (habit of sticking), check all windows (regulators) and doors have habit of deadlocking. Good luck, where is the car?
  11. Hi All, I think I may just be paranoid, but I'm wondering if my water pump is leaking. Long story short; 1.9 TDI 110bhp (ASV Engine) Had cambelt and water pump done about 3 weeks ago. A few days after, I started to get coolant light which would disappear when car got to 90 degrees Checked the other day, realised coolant was a bit low and topped up - speaking my mechanic neighbour he said they won't have topped coolant up right when changing. I keep noticing a white patch under the car in a morning, probably about as big as placemat I need to open up the coolant header tank and check (when engine cools in a bit) but I'm just worried water pump is leaking. Is there anyway I can check or is it buried? Thanks
  12. Thanks buddy. Yes, got it sorted Wednesday night - got a jubilee clip on it instead now and managed about 110 miles yesterday, all trouble free.
  13. Yep, exactly - I know they are at fault for this. However, I cannot drive the car as the pipe is rubbing against the alternator pulley and the garage is 8 miles away (circa 25t minutes) so it’s not a risk I wanna take. If I can do it myself, I’ll just fix it and put it down to experience 😞
  14. Ah okay, thank you - I did wonder but I just get the pipe that has come off to meet the one with the clip but sounds like releasing it will help. What size are the clips, if you know? I need to find some pipe grippers on it. Are these prone to popping off? I have just had cambelt done within last 500 miles so seems funny how it's popped off.
  15. Hi all, Tonight, put my foot down for a little boost and heard a pop. Car sounds like exhaust is blowing, which I guess is understandable and only a bit of boost. Found the pipe where it had come off and picture of pipe below, but I cannot for the life of me get it back on. Any ideas please?
