TMC traffic events no longer being received...firmware update required?
Module 5F adaptations. Search for “TMC”. If they can’t find it with the search function from there, then don’t let them use VCDS on your vehicle (because they don’t know the first thing about it)!

TMC traffic events no longer being received...firmware update required?
@CeeJayCee Looks Like you have MIB2 high. You need someone with VCDS, or another diagnostics/coding tool, (e.g. OBDEleven, etc) to change the Fee Based Traffic Information adaptation from 15 to 14.

At least one standalone TomTom device supports TM and INRIX. Someone sent me the database. 😁 But you are right, some other Here client or consortium member (BMW?) uses INRIX in its vehicles, so hence it’s inclusion in the Here mapping product. It would be really easy as part of the VAG map extract not to include a certain provider.

If you don’t want to, or can’t, change any coding, then… Step 3 you need the updated “DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12_TMC_Update_V2.7z” I posted a link to later. Earlier maps were provided by Here. Later maps were provided by TomTom. Here thoughtfully (or through error 😉) include the TMC location tables for many different providers in their maps. Which one is used by the unit is determined by configuration. In the UK there were 2 different providers, TrafficMaster which have ceased operations, and INRIX who are still broadcasting. The update files simply switch the configuration to use the remaining provider. TomTom only included the location tables for TMC providers that are actually configured on the vehicle (TrafficMaster). Therefore you could switch configuration to INRIX, but without the required matching location tables you won’t get any messages displayed. And no, you can’t just transfer the location tables from the old maps to the new ones. It’s not as simple as that. Different map providers and intervening map updates make the location tables incompatible between versions.

Yes, I’m leaving all the links to their original downloads. BTW It’s really frustrating that we lose the ability to edit posts after a while here. 😡

TMC traffic events no longer being received...firmware update required?
Correct. Does not require any coding. Leave the TMC adaptation set as is (15). Just unzip the modified files over the V12 maps. Only works with maps up to and including V12 as previously discussed. Theres a link to the V12 maps in my quoted post. 1023 will also still work for the coding, and for some users it may be a better choice. 1023 includes more enabled TMC providers for the rest of Europe.

Attempted to modify the configuration so it will work with the standard FEE BASED TRAFFIC INFO adaptation value of 15... TMC providers update: DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12_TMC_Update_V2.7z This means you should be able to avoid step 4 which requires a coding tool to modify the adaptation to 1023. 🙂 If anyone is able to test it would be appreciated - Sorry, I don't have access to any MIB2STD equiped vehicles.

What was the original value? I suspect one of 3, 4, 7 or 15. My guess is 15? I really don’t understand why those sets were left using TrafficMaster and weren’t modified to use INRIX. If that had been done then no adaptation re-coding would have been necessary.

I’m not sure what the default adaptation is on Skoda, sorry. bigade1 just told me you needed to check that adaptation. Basically for some reason the configuration files were only modified for Provider Sets 21 and 1023 to switch to INRIX. Sets 3, 4, 7, 15 and 32783 have all been left using the now defunct TrafficMaster. TL;DR: If your current adaptation is set to 21 or 1023 you won’t need to do anything with VCDS. If it’s set to 3, 4, 7, 15 or 32783, you’ll need to change it to 1023.

MIB2 Amundsen - alternative 'fix' for loss of TMC service
Except for the 12Gb/12 month SIM currently sold by MyMemory at £24.98. 🙄 Granted this claim is it retails at £42.99. But a simple Google search for “three 12GB data sim” gives me… MyMemory £24.98 Argos £25.99 Amazon £25.00 Amazon also have the 24GB/24 month product for £32.95 which is even better value

MIB2 Amundsen - alternative 'fix' for loss of TMC service
One of the cheapest options is 12GB / 12 month PAYG data SIM from three. Currently £24.98 from MyMemory (other sellers are available). I use one for my Google maps view on my MIB2 High, and also Audi’s Connect traffic (while it was still free). Never got close to using 1GB a month. The only disadvantage is you have to buy a new one every 12 months (or move to their PAYG rates which aren’t nearly as cost effective).

TMC traffic events no longer being received...firmware update required?
No hum…. For MIB2 STANDARD see just a few posts earlier 🙄 Only works for maps up to and including V12 2020 For MIB2 HIGH see this post… If current value is 15, replace with 14 If current value is 32783, replace with 32782 Unlike MIB2 STANDARD, this fix works with all map versions

That’s for someone else to figure out how to modify the SQLite E3/TI.NDS database. It’s already been shown it’s not as simple as copying in the old version of that file from 2020. Almost certainly because that 2020 file references road locations that are no longer in the latest maps. I suspect it might prove quite a challenge, and not having a MIB2STD system myself I’m not able to help further. Sorry.

MIB2STD 2020 Maps with TMC Update for Amundsen/Discover Media/Technisat This method doesn't require any toolbox installation, etc. Unmodifed V12 map download: DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12.7z TMC providers update: DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12_TMC_Update.7z Instructions: 1. Download both 7z files. 2. Unzip unmodified V12 maps to SD card. Instead of downloading, you can use your existing copy of V12 maps if you already have a copy. 3. Unzip the TMC Update to the same SD card, replacing any duplicate files. 4. Check/configure FEE BASED TRAFFIC INFO is set to 1023 using VCDS/OBD11. Give a big thank you to @bigade1 for working out the correct TMC config and doing the testing on his MIB2STD. 👏

No. The .net executable includes the decryption step. See the comments on the GitHub project I linked to.

That is correct, the TI.NDS files do indeed contain the traffic information. It’s not hard to uncompress/unencrypt them to regular SQLite databases. Unfortunately it won’t get you far because the TMC locations reference the road map data in the matching files. So, if you replace TI.NDS, you must replace all the other NDS files from the backlevel maps to match as well. 😞 Edit: Windows command line NDS tool here. NDS2SQLite <filename> … to extract single NDS file, or… NDS2SQLite <path> … to extract all NDS files recursively under the specified path. Based on initial work from here by ratcash.

The map updates for MIB2 High are signed. If you modify the json you will invalidate the signing and the navigation will reject your modified maps as invalid. If you have MIB Toolbox you can use that to force the unsigned json onto your unit, although you risk seriously mucking things up if you get it wrong. Here’s a similar hack for AUS/NZ units… https://github.com/catatonicChimp/mib2-tmc-ANZ/tree/main/MIB2HIGH(MHI2) Personally I don’t recommend it. Also, as you point out you won’t be able to reload maps if you’re already on the latest version. You’d need VCDS to do that. If your in or around SE London (Bromley) drop me a PM.

Audi’s RNSE platform has this option also. The system is just displaying the radio stations that are advertising a service via the TMC flag. It doesn’t mean it can correctly decode the messages from them all though. RNSE for example is missing the necessary TMC Location Tables for INRIX (confirmed by examining the database). Only Trafficmaster locations are present. So while RNSE displays a selection of “Heart”, “Capital” and “Classic” in the TMC selection menu (along with an “auto” option) trying to force the TMC function to use “Classic” doesn’t switch to INRIX because it’s missing the required database. Of course MMI3G may be different, but regardless it should be necessary to force using the correct FM network. The system will use any network (in the default “auto” mode) for which it holds a suitable location table.

From what I’ve seen the INRIX database is about twice the size of the Trafficmaster one, and contains a significant number of B roads. My feeling is their service is probably far superior. INRIX have also been broadcasting a TMC TPEG service on DAB since 2010. I don’t believe Trafficmaster ever progressed beyond FM. Although whether the MIB2H platform is capable of receiving TMC TPEG over DAB is anyone’s guess.

Unfortunately correct. However I expect it’s 1 more choice than VAG are likely to give you.

TMC traffic events no longer being received...firmware update required?
Totally agree - letting VAG know we’re doing this would be an extremely bad move. Internally VAG, or their map suppliers Here, already know how to do this 100%. But most likely I think VAG have already ruled it out due to cost. But if VAG want to, or TMC suppliers asked them to, they could very easily remove our ability to do this in future maps.
