  1. yep, agreed, for professional installers, that should be bread and butter stuff! Thanks for the tip on the piggyback, I'll look into that - hopefully the guy installed a piggy back fuse holder thingy that I can just move.
  2. I need to research my Nextbase wiring.... I had them come out and do the install for me (lazy), but the way it's currently wired up it turns off the power to the dashcam when the automatic stop/start kicks in. I often turn off stop/start (as it annoys me greatly), but also forget a lot too, so the dashcam is turning itself off and on at traffic lights etc, which is exactly one situation when you don't want your dashcam turning off.
  3. There's something not quite right about the styling.... I don't like the way the front bumper curves inwards, making the front wheel arches looking like they're wider than they should be and added as an afterthought. And the front grille looks too vertical and like the front of a bus! mk3 looks better:
  4. Crikey. I've seen a few of those o2 sensors replaced in my time of several VW/Skodas. Is that a Bosch part the dealer has to source through via Skoda, or just the dealer failing to bother sourcing it from elsewhere, I wonder.
  5. Thanks, yep, that's all useful. I hadn't considered all the issues reported might vary on the headunit types, but that's obvious really I guess. Yep, the one I'm looking at has a Swing/8.25 system. But I've also seen 2021 exact same 1.0 TSI e-TEC SE First Edition, with a Bolero/10" system, so does seem to vary what you get. Good to hear your loaner had no issues. And thanks for that brochure, I'll have a read of that!
  6. Looking at a used 2021 1.0 TSI e-TEC SE First Edition I'd love to know any tips from anyone of what specific things to look for on this model. I've been reading the forums, and have caught the gist of the issues around electronics, so I'll be digging into hardware/software versions on it, but I gather 1896 fixed a few of the main niggles. What I couldn't figure out from reading is if there are specific issues that can't be fixed by software, on particular Hardware models?? i.e. is there a particular head unit hardware model to avoid like the plague? I don't believe the car has ACC, so I think issues around that I can ignore. But yeah, any specifics to check would be great, outside of the normal stuff one looks for on a test drive. Thanks.
  7. RAC chap did say mine was difficult to get to. I guess @Aj77 is referring to other Octavia engines, which I've read are quite easy to get to. Where he inserted the coke can blanking plate was the top front of the engine, but he said the valve itself was at the back lower down, and quite a lot of work to remove. On the emulator front, I've read it also needs the DPF removing too? I'll do some more reading on it, but I wasn't completely sure if it was a good idea or not. Cheers for replies.
  8. Ha Is that all it takes really then? I do tend to drive like an 80 year old nearly all the time.
  9. So, I've read quite a few posts on here about EGR valves. Mine has become blocked, and I'll be taking it to the local garage - I'm expecting a bill somewhere between £600 and £800 by the sounds of what I've read. Mine is a 2021 1.6 TDI Octavia. I gather this will be the damned awkward to get to engine, hence lots of labour costs. RAC got the thing drivable again by removing a gasket near the top front of the engine and blanking it off with a flat bit of metal (coke can actually, as he'd run out of blanking plates!). Point of this post though is I'm wondering about how's best to avoid the thing becoming blocked in future. I used to do long easy drives to and from/work, which RAC guy said would have helped it, but since I'm now permanently working from home, it only ever does short journeys now. Is there anything I can do to avoid this clogging up happening again? I was planning to switch to a petrol Octavia at some point, but want to delay that now that used prices and choice are pretty cr4p currently. Thanks
  10. I'm basically torn between my complete tight arse nature on one side, and my desire to have a nice looking car..... I guess it's basically the difference between say a £14k Octavia, and I'm looking about £22k on the Superb. Quite a difference. Oh, brilliant, thanks so much - that's really good to see. Those internal LED's look nice. You're right, you only live once.......
  11. I know......this would make some sense...but.... I specifically like the Sportline i.e. if I'm getting a Superb, it's going to be a Sportline. I'm basically flipping every 5 minutes, between spending more money, and having a more luxury better looking Superb Sportline hatchback, and being sensible, and getting a much cheaper, more plain looking average Octavia estate again. E.g. this.... or this:
  12. Thanks both. And thanks for offering to take a photo Newbie - I'd really love to see one, but only if it's not too much trouble. I've got to say, it might influence my decision. I really want a Superb, but at the same time, it's also just a car and has to be able to do what I need it to.
  13. Don't suppose anyone might be able to answer this? I did just come across a YouTube review mentioning the Sportline seats don't fold flat in the forwards direction, which doesn't surprise me, but just wondering about how far back they fold. I've also now read that you can't remove the rear seat bases on the Superb Mk III - on my Octavia, I can remove the rear seats in about 30 seconds, and then I've got a completely flat surface from the boot right up to until the front seats. I guess with the rear seat bases not being removeable, and the front seat possibly not folding back far enough, the Superb would not be as good at carrying long loads as the Octavia. Cheers
  14. I was only mentioning it in case others, like me, barely know the difference between rust and corrode, and stick Skoda dealer supplied dust caps (a free "gift"), and a few months later when inflating tyres find they're impossible to remove Doh. Couldn't get the buggers off, ended up getting garage to do it when it went in for MOT. If I ever get them again, I think I'd regularly give the a twist to make sure they're freed up rather than waiting months like I did. I've no idea what the Skoda ones were made of. They do look much better than cheapo plastic though.
  15. You probably know, but metal dust caps rust on, and are a nightmare to remove again.
  16. Yeah, I get why people like the 280. But I'm such a tight arse, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it knowing the fuel economy was so low I'd be happy with the 150, and I see there's a 190 too. The 220 would be me having a mad moment and going nuts I very nearly bought a 150 yesterday, until I realised there was no rear-wiper on the car. Again, I know it's personal choice, but it would personally drive me mad not having one. There are a few about, they're just either white, or no rear-wiper, or ex-hire cars, etc, etc. The search continues.....
  17. So car was originally registered July 2018. Current owner registered it in July 2019 "V5C issue date" March 2020. Not sure what that means? Surely it can't have taken 7 months to update the keeper details from July 2019? It hasn't had tax since July 2020....I guess it's been awaiting sale since then perhaps, or just taken off the road due to furlough/corona virus. EDIT: Just had this information back too: "We can only provide information on who the previous owner was, and I can see it was Enterprise Ren-a-car, therefore this vehicle has been a rental vehicle". Hmmm....a 220 BHP rental car. That'll have been run in well, and treated nicely then.......NOT. Think I'll give this particular one a miss and keep looking
  18. Yeah....I did wonder. I'll ask who previous owners were. Could be a million reasons why I guess, but you have to wonder why 2 people would get rid of a car in such a short space of time.
  19. Ha! 😀 I feel like 220 is going a bit nuts. 280 would be insane.
  20. Thanks for fast replies. I'm only looking at it at the moment, but the website says it's a 6-speed. And that there was a service at 16703 miles on 6th Jan 2020 - could have been it's one and only service, I'm not sure. Gulp...really? I'm used to flooring it to pull away at a roundabout sharpish. Is that difficult to do with this engine?
  21. I'm looking at a 2018 Superb Sportline. It's got a 2.0L TSI engine, 220BHP, and 6 speed automatic gearbox, and 23000 miles on the clock. 2 previous owners. As title, just looking for any tips on what to look for, or anything particular problematic regarding this specific year/engine ? Obviously I understand all cars can have problems, but, any particular horror stories I need to be wary of on this one? Just thought I'd check with the wealth of experience on this forum Many thanks
  22. Currently debating buying a Superb (splashing out, maybe a 2018 2.0L 220BHP Sportline), vs an Octavia (sensible option, 2018, 1.0L 110BHP). The Superb Sportline would be my dream option.....versus being sensible and saving about £4-6k and going with the Octavia. I've got a 2012 Octavia already, and occasionally transport long lengths of timber, runs to the tip, etc. I remove the rear seats, move the Octavia fronts passenger seat all the way forward, remove the head rest, and fold backwards as far as it goes. it's not exactly level with the boot, but it's not too far off. I've had a couple of dozen lengths of 2400mm timber in the Octavia, for example, with no issue. Just wondering, how well the Sportline Superb would handle this, with it's fixed, non-removable headrest? Anyone done this? Thanks
  23. Hair drying in progress Appears to be clearing up. On lowest heat setting, so isn't heating at all really, just getting some air flow through small hole and then flows out the bigger hole. To clear the water streaks (mine are not too bad), I'd probably remove the following 4 bolts and then you should have access to the plastic inside:
  24. I have the same problem. Can't see a way through past the bulbs to wipe up though. Going to try a hair dryer.....
  25. So after putting brake on to get it into gear, you have to press it a second time to get it to move? And later whilst driving, if you were to pull over, into Park, handbrake on, it wouldn't happen a second time when pulling off?
