  1. Why do people loose sleep worrying about ohms? Ohms is nothing to do with voltage, but the resistance of the speaker coil offered to the amp. A typical impedance curve of a speaker unit is that it can be difficult to drive at low frequencies, as high as 1 ohm "yes high at one" and easy at high, say 8 ohms, so the manufacturer will slap a 4ohm label on it as its average resistance. Thats why you can boost the bass output on your amp.
  2. Sorry to disappoint you but mine are 4 ohms with a crossover and tweeters, no amplifier, and they sound great. Car bass speakers are designed to carry high wattage as a priority so boy racers can amplify them. Hi Fi speakers are designed to give sound quality as a preferance. I have speakers at home that I have built that are better than anything you can buy, they have that much detail that they can pick out indervidual voices in a chorus.
  3. If you are on a budget, the best way is to buy a radio cassette with an auxiliary input. You can then plug an MP player in.
  4. Check to see if your wiring harness is still there, "a large white terminal block" If it is you will have to buy one to match Skoda fitting
  5. Another thing I have done in the past, put one of these on a template and place it inside your spare wheel in boot. Takes no space at all.
  6. Peerless 831858 8" Dual Voice Coil Woofer NO LONGER AVAILABLE from Madisound This one, but I see it is no longer available, it is a hifi speaker, not a car product. See how it has 4 terminals to connect both channels, saves space.
  7. Gave all electrical contacts a spray with WD40, and noticed the earthing strap from distributer rusty, cleaned it, and seems OK now
  8. I only live a few miles away from you in leicester , if you want you can come and see what I have done and you can listen to see if it is what you want. It just wires up to the rear speaker output on your unit. I have also changed my front speakers for sony . pound for pound they give the best range and fidelity, only cost £20
  9. I have been into HiFi all my life. To listen to boy racers amplified sub base makes me cringe. I like a natural base sound. Car speakers never have enough base due to their size and lack of spacial volume behind them. I have put an unampified bass tube in my boot with an 8" dual core speaker, this plays both the stereo channels through one speaker,no cutting, easy to install, move from car to car, deep rich natural bass.
  10. Hi, I have a strong smell of unburnt petrol coming from my exhaust on cold start. Car has just passed MOT so must be fine when warm, any ideas what to look for?
  11. Yes took it for drive, heater was working after a few hundred yards instead of a few hundred miles
  12. Oh my god, what a job! Old one looked OK, can only assume it was not fitted properly with pin located. Thanks a lot.
  13. Car just sailed through MOT thought I would spend some time on little beauty. Water temp taking age to warm up so managed to get a new thermostat off ebay, just thermostat, not complete unit. Do I have to take unit off or can I slide it in somewhere?
  14. Try this if you are on XP, press start.....then run.....type in sfc /scannow dont forget space before / windows will check for missing / damaged files If you are prompted to put your recovery disk in, ignore the on screen prompt when you do. Dont worry when your screen goes black, nearly finished. You then have a nice clean copy of windows without a re-formatt. Hope this helps Bill
