  1. Many thanks for the heads up, The Haldex oil has been changed twice in 35k miles but the car is 10 years old so im guessing its like a cambelt ..miles or time , But its something to keep an eye on . Cheers
  2. Wow, everyday is a school day, ok i just thought it was a Yeti thing having not come across it before in such quantity on one vehicle with such low mileage and infrequent use before, however the AA article clarifies that very succincly . Many Thanks
  3. Ah righto, its unusual as ive mostly had French cars before and this volume of broken springs is new to me . Re: cambelt, yes I am always on top of that but just wondered if there was one of those bizarre things that drivers in the know recommend getting done at the same time because its difficult to get to etc . But many thanks for the Advice and info
  4. For 5k you could pickup a decent Yeti 4x4 which would be ideal if you are going to off-road sites for your bike , the Yeti has a Haldex clutch so has 'intelligent' 4x4 meaning its in 2 wheel drive most of the time ( good for fuel efficiency) but is always there if you need it and a hill descent button which works forwards and backwards gradually moving you forwards or backwards without losing control. Its chunky, well built, has roof rails for a storage box for all your bike spares and the rear seats can be fully removed making a big boot space and saving weight too ... yes I have one and its an absolutely amazing car .
  5. Thank you both for your time. Im slowly getting used to the codes for wheels etc. I am really pleased with the Yeti so far, the build quality and paint is excellent and after having the bhp increased on the engine and brembo discs and pads all round I find it just gives the old girl the oomph that she needs and the stopping power too. It's a really rugged car, no flimsy plastics -no silly gimmicks , I just really like it. I know the car from new as it was my mum's before me . Mum fully serviced it religiously from day one at Skoda so is in amazing mechanical condition with a paltry 35k on the clock. The only furrowing of brows has come from the three suspension coils that have broken , two on the rear when mum had it and the passenger side front under my ownership ..perhaps this was a common fault at one time? The cam belt was changed four and a half years ago and I have been informed by my local garage that it should be changed every 5 years , is there any advice re: anything else I should have changed whilst they are in there apart from the water pump? As part of my modernisation project I upgraded the original cd payer/radio to a modern Skoda RNS315 Nav unit with hands free phone unit and am on the hunt for a reasonably priced NAV SD card for it. Thanks once again for the information.
  6. Fab news! thats just saved me a small fortune. Just as a matter of interest does the 1.6 Yeti share the same wheels as my 2.0 Yeti? Im trying to learn about wheel sizes etc and its a bit bewildering at first . Many thanks
  7. A stunning amount of information thank you. Could I pick your brains please? I note in your list that the 1.6 tdi Yeti has 205/60R16 tyres on what would seem to be the same rims as my 2010 2.0 Yeti 4x4 which is fitted with 215/60R16 as standard onto my rims I have a near mint set of snow tyres from a previous car which are 205/60R16 and wondered if they would be ok to put onto my current rims as they would appear to be the same as the ones used on the 1.6 Yeti..or have I missed something? Pearls of wisdom gratefully accepted. My Yeti model and wheel type attached.
  8. Sweaty Yeti Updates: New front discs and Brembo pads...muuuuch better. New (to me) Skoda RN315 sat nav /bluetooth/ hands free phone media setup, goes straight into the hole where the original CD player sat, wires for teh microphone easy install up into the overhead light unit, new fascia trim fitted and it looks amazing -and bang up to date, very posh. Stage 1 tune and the difference is definately worth the cost, I didnt want a racing car but definately wanted a bit more oooomph.... and ive got it now. Took her out in the snow this morning, down the hill from my house, popped the 'Slippery Road' button on and let her take me down the snowy hill......past the big fat slippy slidey Range Rover who pulled off the road ..oh how I laughed.
  9. Cheers for the info JR. I am intrigued by the vario floor..what is a vario floor ? Re: your media unit with Sat Nav in the Octavia do the VAG units from later Skodas and VW's just slot straight in to the yeti? as they look a very similar size. The Yeti is actually quite nippy in the first two gears to be honest but becomes very asthmatic thereafter and having had a Laguna 3 with 150bhp for the past 4 years which was an absolutely outstanding car by the way, the difference in poke is tangible. Ive heard that some tuners are saying that they can get 170 bhp out of this VW engine but to be honest im dubious , and even if possible i think that the engine would self destruct in double quick time. Im looking at taking her up to around 140 ish which should see sensible power gains without knackering the engine. Re: brakes i just assumed that the pads and discs needed changing but with some good quality pads and some fresh fluid and then properly pumped up.
  10. New to Skoda, just bought a 2010 Yeti 4x4 108 bhp with 35k on the clock . Really impressed...however I desperately want to upgrade the media player to a SATNAV unit from a newer Skoda, upgrade the front brakes which are not the best brakes ive ever known and add a few more horses as she's a bit flat with only 108 horses,. Other than that im really chuffed with the old girl, she has really good handling, extremely good build quality and very rugged.
