  1. Excellent, thanks. I am on the right track then, I didn't want to have to break things down just to find it's probably ok.
  2. My tailgate is starting to play up. It started with the number plate lights registering as faulty, but just opening and closing the boot resolved it. Then the boot interior lights went the same way, the new fault as from yesterday is that all lights start flashing maybe twice a second. The rear wiper now also doesn't work, and the boot only opens maybe one in five attempts. The one thing that helps is if I wiggle the left wire flexi as it enters the tailgate, that stops the lights flashing although the rear wiper stays off. Oh, and the 'boot open' message on the dash seems ok, it's registering when the boot is open or closed. I'm going to guess that it's the wiring inside the flexible section, so this weekends job will be extracting it and having a look. That leads to two questions though; Given the symptoms am I on the right track. If so, how do I repair wires inside the flexi, given the lack of space as well as the need for the wires to bend. Is there anything else that could be contributing? I saw some posts about corroded tailgates but that seems to relate to the boot lock or the boot open switch, rather than lighting issues.
  3. All fixed!! I didn't need to apply the SW, just having it boot from the CD once allowed the existing SW to kick in and work. I'll keep hold of the disc in case it needs another kick up the behind. Thanks again for the advice and the image, that's saved me a couple of hundred on a new head unit.
  4. Ah brilliant, thanks for the link. Yes the top of the head unit mentions HW H27 and SW 6276.
  5. A quick extra note, after doing some searches on here I found the '3 finger salute', this does work to bring up the 'The system is not able to start up' and 'please insert swl-cd'. Does that mean I'm potentially looking at just doing a firmware reload as a fix? If so, is there a reliable source for an appropriate CD/DVD?
  6. @Rustynuts I've been doing a forum search and your name pops up, would you be able to offer any suggestions? Are you still in the Columbus fixing market?
  7. My car head unit has stopped responding, when I turn the power on the buttons light up and I hear what sounds like a CD mechanism 'whirr' (like it's checking if there is a CD loaded), then the screen stays black and it keeps repeating. Every so often I see a line flash on the head unit but that's all. Just on the off chance it could be battery related I gave the battery an overnight charge and tried again, no luck. I have seen some Android devices that look decent, and they talk about keeping integration with steering controls, parking sensors etc. But then I also see that the L&K got a little bit more in terms of audio, an external amp maybe? Would I still be able to use an Android unit with an L&K? Alternatively I wouldn't mind the original getting fixed. The part number is 3T0 035 686 N, is there anywhere I can send it for a fix? I'm in the Midlands if that makes any difference?
  8. A week to download two recalls? I used to have internet like that... last century!! I don't know about the NSW inspection, but there was meant to be something in the UK where a car would fail it's inspection (MOT) if there were any outstanding recalls. I'm not sure if they implemented it though. (A quick Google suggests it is in place). I'm struggling with various warranties at the moment, how do they work with the whole lockdown thing. For example, we have a warranty for our front room couch, but I have a feeling it could actually lapse before we're able to claim on it. Are they extending warranties for the lockdown period, are we going to get a small time to claim, or is it just going to go straight out the window because companies can't afford to pay out on warranty claims?
  9. Hi, I'm new on here, and since the first forum appears to be appropriate, I thought I'd post in here as a 'hello'. I'm currently driving a 2006 Saab 9-3, and my wife keeps saying I need to go for something newer. I don't disagree with her, it's just that I've never really considered a car as something to spend a lot of money on!! Anyhow, this time round I'm going for something I've been looking at for a while now, a Skoda. I first got to know Skoda's when I was looking at Saab's, as you can imagine the Octavia Vrs was a viable alternative. It was only beaten by the Saab due to the high number of complete nails that are out there. I'd either find something in my price range that was one RPM away from spitting it's engine parts all over the floor, or ones that were treated like close family members but with a price to match. At least with the Saab I could get something pretty healthy for a couple of grand. This time round I thought I'd go for something comfortable rather than outright performance, so the Superb has bubbled to the top of the list. I can't go brand new, in fact the cars I'm looking at are around 8-10 years old. It'll be the 2.0 TDI CR engine under the bonnet (I remember the PD engine from my SEAT days), not bothered about auto or manual though. But it has to be big spec, I'm thinking either Elegance at least. If I can get a Laurin and Klement version for my budget then even better. And an estate too. Time to go hunting I guess!
