  1. Not the fastest at charging (no inductive charger is due to the way the current tech works), but if you want to charge it quicker at least the usb c is in a handy spot anyway. Just shows how much of a ripoff the factory option really is!
  2. As above, mine seemed to fix itself after a few decent journeys. Haven’t had a prompt for a couple of weeks.
  3. Audi is only just moving to Automotive Linux though, but I suspect you could be right given Scala is supposed to be the first vehicle in the group to get the latest OS. Previously Audi were on QNX iirc. VW’s bespoke OS is being developed with Microsoft just to complicate things further, though I’m sure I read somewhere it was possibly going to be android based (which to be fair is based on Linux anyway). I could be wrong but I think Mercedes May still be shipping cars with QNX as well 🤔. The sooner we get a stable and reliable OS across different brands the better IMO, so great that most now seem to be partners in the Automotive Linux programs. Interesting about the battery - must try that. I was shocked at how small it was when I saw it and I do quite a lot of short trips! Now I think about it the Fiesta (based on Windows) ICE wasn’t happy when the battery was low.
  4. Yup. I bought a short cable and this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PN288W7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3WUjFb8GNRSHY just pop it on top of the exiting tray. Phone held with no sliding around despite the small looking grips. It’s hardly noticeable when the phone isn’t there either being black
  5. Mine shows driving data. Only thing not working is the remote lock/unlock which the dealer was supposed to have enabled a week agohaving photocopied my driving licence.
  6. Factory option afaik. Perhaps you could find someone to make you something up?
  7. I just bought one off amazon and plugged it into the usb c. Heck of a lot cheaper than the Skoda factory option!!!
  8. I did get the software update thing for the first few days but it seemed to sort itself out. The only issues I am having is it seems to take 2-3 minutes to load up my profile and sometimes the infotainment system freezes when moving between reverse parking sensors and the normal home. Only way to get it to work is to hold down the power button for 10 seconds and reboot it. Is this a Microsoft based system by any chance? Sat nav woman sounds familiar
  9. Any usb-c adapter should work. I got 3 from amazon for £6 delivered
  10. Having received my Scala (at last) I can report I also had severe juddering to start with. A combination of a deep clean of the windscreen and blades with concentrate screen wash (used neat) and use seems to have cured the problem.
  11. Had the Fabia caught up with the rest of the group I may have considered it! Though to be honest, having lived with a brand new Fabia for a couple of weeks last year, I think I'd be much happier with the extra space in the Scala anyway. For me the Mk IV Fabia cannot arrive quick enough Cant comment on living with a Rapid vs a Scala, but the Scala certainly appears to be a lot more advanced with the former based on a rather ancient platform (even older than the Fabia's)
  12. Does it make a difference with winter tyres? When you change the pressure you simply reset the system in the “car” settings menu. I’m sure plenty of people in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in Europe run winter tyres (and maybe even snow chains) at least part of the year without issue.
  13. Indirect AFAIK. Coming from ford I’m quite glad as I’ve had issues with the in wheel sensors before. Only takes a tyre fitter to be a bit gung ho or getting a bit too acquainted with a kerb to cause a headache!
  14. Had my scala a week. It arrived at the dealers just before lockdown however. Things ARE starting to move though.
  15. Felicia was a "modernised" Favorit with VW input and some technology. It wasn't all one way though - Skoda's 1.3l engine (a development of the engines used in the Estelle, 1000mb etc) made its way in to the Polo as well as the Felica iirc. It also grew into the 1.4MPi used in the Fabia (and its VW cousins?). It had quite a life since the base engine first appeared in 1964 on the 1000mb! Emissions legislation eventually killed it off.
  16. A correction to this. Skoda Works was privatised in 1992. The Czech government sold their remaining 49% stake in the early 2000's. Since then there were accusations of financial irregularities as the company appeared to have been controlled by a number of shell companies once the state sold their stake. Even the Czech police couldn't get to the bottom of who was ultimately controlling the company! They sold Skoda Transportation in the early 2010's and it is now owned by a Dutch group (controlled by a Czech). From what I can see they have also bought back some other parts of the former Skoda works. They also now own the Skoda brand. https://www.intellinews.com/petr-kellner-agrees-to-buy-skoda-transportation-for-reported-400mn-133111/ https://www.railwaygazette.com/business/ppf-sells-minority-stake-in-koda-transportation/48535.article https://www.skoda.cz/en/about-company/skoda-investment/ The power generation (Doosan), nuclear (OMZ), steel, etc business were all sold off. AFAIK its quite an embarrassment for the Czech government with a once great state enterprise sold off in bits to the highest bidder at considerable profit versus the price paid in the privatisation. Whereas privatisation seemed to work well for Skoda Auto (and Karosa), it was arguably less successful for Skoda Works. Škoda made the hub and spindle for the London Eye. At the time it was supposed to be the only place in Europe capable of fabricating components of that size in a single piece IIRC. I have a book about the construction somewhere - must dig it out!
  17. Having this on mine too. Its a pain. You think its updated then it decides it needs the update again. Has a nasty habit of doing it while you are driving and so cant do the update anyway! I got myself an "Unbreakcable" branded wireless charger for less than £15. Works fine plugged in to the USB C (with an amazon basics short cord) and cost a heck of a lot less than specifying the factory option! It would probably possibly fit under the Skoda mat but tbh does a good job of gripping the phone as it is.
  18. Also this. AFAIK the SE is the model expected to sell in volume and so the specification reflects that - it has the stuff most people want. For a start you get a better entertainment system (not just the speakers), adjustable lumbar support, rear parking sensors, and auto lights and wipers. If the OP is on a budget perhaps a nearly new vehicle would be more appropriate. Skoda have some cracking finance offers in the UK on stock vehicles now though!
  19. Can’t comment on S vs SE, but I’d rate the SE L’s system as merely adequate. Not much in the way of bass response, even with the equaliser adjusted. Potentially a lot to pay for not a lot of benefit? Can you not try both yourself - audio is very subjective at the end of the day.
  20. Tarby

    Usb c rear

Its about €40 from Skoda-parts. No idea if the wiring will be in the car for it (or enabled) as its a factory option.
  21. Received my SE L yesterday (at last). Can confirm that there is no 12v socket in the boot (just a blanking plug), no under seat storage, and no seat side pockets. I'm not fussed about any of them, but it does seem a bit odd to delete equipment that used to be standard even on the SE trim from the SE L. I did hear something that internal VW politics mean Skoda are cutting back on standard equipment - giving too much for too little versus group rivals. Could be a load of rubbish of course!
  22. Hopefully your car won’t be delayed too much. AFAIK production has stopped (certainly has at other VW Group facilities) so a lot will depend on how long it takes to get the factory and supply chain up and running again. At least you have plenty of window. Getting the car to you might take a little longer as well depending on what pressure remains on the logistics networks. I have a car of the same spec (without heated seats) waiting for me at the dealer for collection once we are allowed out again. What colour did you go for?
