  1. Hi thanks for the information. That's something I'll investigate that potential issue. Was it an expensive thing to change? Thanks
  2. Hi The battery is not more than a couple of years old so I'd be gutted if it's that but if it sorts it then it's 100 pounds well spent. Thanks
  3. Hi .ok I have changed the battery in the last couple of years so I'm hoping the battery would last a bit longer as it's a good make. Maybe I can get it checked out on a meter Thanks
  4. Hi. It hasn't been repeating the problem lately since stating the problem on here which is typical!! It did it once and I only let it not start once and removed the fuel filler cap. Instantly started so I'm hoping that is the issue but I need it to repeat a few times to be definite but I'll keep you updated. Thanks
  5. Hi Never thought about putting a wanted as on here. I'll check through the adverts too you never know something might stand out as a good deal. Thanks again
  6. I would definitely be looking for lots of service history and proof of DSG service. I thought this would be a good selling point for a private or dealer sale. It wouldn't put me off going for a higher mileage car as long as it's got good history. I guess in my budget it would be nice to find some within the 80-120000 range but they will probably be higher mileage cars. Thanks
  7. Great . I will give that a try . Thanks
  8. Thanks for some very useful information. Sorry is the DQ250 the gearbox to go for then ? What years would have this have been fitted? Is that 6 or 7!speed ? As you say an ex taxi would have been regularly serviced and kept clean so not put off by that . apologies for all the questions
  9. Hi. I am thinking of getting an upgrade on my current 2008 1.9 PD Octavia diesel estate for a slightly newer one with a DSG box. What tests do I need to do whilst test driving to make sure I'm not buying one that's got issues. I'll most likely buy from a garage and buy an extended warranty just in case but any preventative steps would be much less stressful. My garage has said the 6 speed seems more robust than the 7 speed and they should be serviced every 40 000 miles. Looking through adverts hardly any mention about having the service done which I thought would have been a good selling point. They can't be that bad can they as I see lot of Octavia / superb's used as taxis with the DSG and they do mega miles Thanks
  10. Hi. Yes I'm thinking it may be possible it's drawing air in somewhere and I might get it plugged in again just to see if it shows up a fault code. I'll check the possible blockage of the fuel cap vent. Thanks again
  11. Hi thanks for replying with some possible areas to look at. I did have it scanned but it didn't show any issues which is strange so I'm hoping it's not a major issue like fuel pump, injector's etc. Thanks
  12. Hi. Could anyone help with this problem. Bare with me. As previously mentioned my car goes into limp mode when going up a steep hill and going over 2000 rpm approx. I have had answers as to what this could possibly be with the Turbo etc. but now over the last few months the car struggles to start when it's hot and has been driven for a while and I leave the car for maybe 5-10 mins when i try to fire up again ,it may take maybe 2-5 times it feels as though the timing is miles out and it feels and sounds as though the engine is about to exit the car!! Massive vibration too.when it does fire up the revs are higher but drives fine. It Doesn't seem to have the same problem when the engine is cold. I have had a fuel filter just changed and cam sensor and the car drives beautifully when not suffering from these two problems. Hope someone can help Thanks
  13. Thanks for all the possible explanations of what could cause the loss of power. I think I,LL get it read for codes and see what it says
  14. Many thanks for the info.hopefully a relatively easy thing to fix
  15. Hi I have a 1.9 PD (105)diesel estate and when climbing a relatively steep hill and getting the revs up a bit ,(I think approx 3000 RPM)the engine will suddenly lose power as if someone has switched the turbo off. This power loss continues until I pull over and switch off the engine and it seems to go back to normal. Anyone any idea what could cause this? Thanks
