Best of luck with looking at an Accord Estate. After I couldn't afford an Audi A6 2.5TDI replacement I bought a 2.2D Accord Estate - and hated it.............. It proved to be very cramped, the plastics rattled, the ICE was rubbish and it took 10 miles to get any heat out of the heater in winter. Most I ever got was 42mpg on a run. Traded it in after 6 months for my 1st 06/06 V6TDI Elegance demonstrator and never regretted a moment of it. Certainly not the cheapest car to run / maintain but gives so much pleasure especially on M.way driving that it's worth it. After 7 years I had the opportunity to buy an 07/07 facelift with 40k on the clock - so now have 9 years of 'Superb' motoring under my belt. Most mpg I have recorded on a run is 45.1, normally around 42.

I'm now on my 2nd V6TDI - couldn't find anything that offers the same satisfaction for the same price. The V6 is a fantastic motor - smooth and powerful - but it can be a heavy maintenance job, especially with cambelt changes etc. the 2nd V6 came with a full dealer history and 40k miles. The door hinges were beautifully greased, but anything important - plenum chambers, pollen filter / housing etc had NEVER been touched, and my local VAG indy had a lot to do to get it up to scratch. The Superb 1 can be a fantastic car, but if you are new to the species get someone who really knows the car to give it a onceover. I tow a vintage Morris + trailer and as V6TDI days you don't even notice....................... :evil:

I have had no cold start problems this winter - but I have had a new battery, so the engine gets a good spin as per Roto's comments. This winter hasn't been really cold - I believe that my last winter's VP44 failure might have been due to standing out at -6C and worse for a week which may have led to the fuel waxing in the filter and starving the pump of lube.

Another niggling electronics matter on my Superb - the average mpg display which normally zeroes after a couple of hours seems to be stuck between 31.8 and 32.5mpg. I would normally expect to get around 40mpg on a run. Even after parking up all night - still shows between the 2 above. Any ideas? There are 2 fault codes - 01008 and 01336 but I don't think they are connected with his problem.

I have the same problem with my '07 Elegancen - ceiling lights work manually, footwell and puddle lamps work with the door.I have 2 fault codes showing - 01008 - Emergency OFF switch activated and 01336 Data bus for Comfort system fault. Carpets etc all dry - any advice on where to start looking appreciated!

My VP44 failed at 121k - ran, but in limp mode. Recon cost around £1600 - and the cambelt had done about 50k miles so was also replaced. Not many cheap options............ and you have got to be good to DIY including the re-timing!

I'm on my 2nd V6tdi now - 1st one lasted me 7 years and 124k miles. 2nd one has just turned 41k miles and should last me a while yet. Yes, they are probably a bit more bother and expensive to run, but in Elegance trim they offer real quality motoring - in my case around 43mpg on a run - quite happy with that. I looked at Audis and Phaetons for the replacement but you are again looking at twice the price and probably equal expense for an equivalent.

On my 06 Superb the arrow on the screen generally pointed 'up', and the map moved down around it. On my 'new' 07 car the arrow points any which way - much more confusing. The manual is generally unhelpful (or I can't understand the Skodaspeak) - can anyone advise me how to jiggle things around so that the arrow on the '07 also changes to the upright position?

Difficult to compare Octy with Superb 1 - built on different platforms - the Superb is much bigger and heavier with consequences to fuel useage. The Superb is a lovely car - I'm on my 2nd - but you do need to look through this Forum to make sure the built-in problems have all been dealt with, and of course avoid the temptation of the 2.0 ltr diesel..............

The 06 Superb I am just parting with had the ATF (and cambelt) changed by VAS Motion in Guildford at 70k. Still good at 124k, was planning to change again at 140k. When I can afford it I will probably probably get the new one done - a lot less miles, but it is 6 years old............ I spent most of my working life in the bus world, and in the 60s / 70s Leyland introduced an automated throttle dip on their epicyclic g/boxes to avoid full power changes. I have used the same principle toe-off changing 3>4>5 using TIP. Don't know i it does make any difference - but now at 124k with no problems.

Agreed - I have just bought an 07 2.5V6 Elegance - only been serviced by Skoda dealers. When I took it to my local 'man' for a checkover the plenum chamber was wrist deep in gunge and the pollen filter seal disintegrated. Both have now been done properly. There were also half a dozen fault codes and the front pads almost out............ the car was only serviced in April (and 2k miles since) (the door hinges were nicely greased though......................) It will be nice when it's up to standard, though

Ryan - You just need to read through some of the back posts on the 2.0 diesel on the Forum. The 1.9 will do mega miles - but if you want really luxury motoring from a Superb try a well maintained 2.5 V6 TDI Elegance - you won't bother with anything else!!

I too am in the process of replacing my 06 2.5 Elegance after 124k and 7 years very happy miles. I looked at Phaetons (£465 pa rfl !!!) and stuff out of the Audi box - and have finished up with another, but 07 Facelift Elegance. Not quite such a high spec. (I could never watch the seat-back DVD screens anyway..) Couldn't find anything else which matched quality / value. - so I have 2 Superbs in he drive at present. The 07 should see me through to mobility scooter days! The only disappointment is that having only Skoda dealer stamps in the service book the amount of work needed to bring the car up to 'Forum' standards has been quite a shock.................. :wonder:

Jimbof - Woolleys at Hingham look after my Superb - Neil there is well knowledgable - he runs an A6. (Bad news is - they have a 52 plate A6 there with less than 6ok on the clock with a knackered box - and they can't get a s/h box anywhere.............) :think: But worth discussing.........
