I've filled her back up with oil and given her a test run.... no leaks to report just yet. This is a learning curve for me so I've been relying on information I've read from other members, but I guess what works for some doesn't work for others. The lesson I've learnt today is to ignore anyone who tells you to grease both the inner and outer seal. Lee is correct, no grease on the outer part, tap it in dry, job done. Now I'm not sure whether to revisit this and start again?

Hello Wino, Purchased from mister-auto-uk via ebay; REINZ Crankshaft Seal 81-36787-00 I thought I'd go for a decent brand but maybe I should have purchased a cheaper one. The Fabia is on a 2000 (W) plate. Thanks for clarifying the oil pressure, or lack of, and for looking up the bolt info. Morning, Yesterday I changed the crankshaft oil seal on my 1.4 mpi. The outer and inner seals were greased with Castrol GM before insertion but I found the new seal went in a bit too easily, I was expecting to have to knock it in place with a socket etc. but I was able to push it in with just my fingers. At first it went in too far (there is no back stop) on the second attempt I removed some of the grease and repositioned it nice and squarely at approximately 1mm in from the face. My question is, is there a great deal of oil pressure at this part of the engine which could cause the seal to pop out? When I look at other YouTube videos some have to be hammered in with a massive amount of force, or is this perfectly normal for this particular engine? Any advice would be appreciated. Also, is there supposed to be a washer between the the 24mm bolt and the pulley wheel? as mine doesn't have one. The seal (old and new) only seems to grip on just the very outer edge of the pulley.
