Rear Differential Replacement
@Roottootemblowinootsoot Its an independent garage that we have used for years and has always been fair. Not a VW or Skoda specialist - the only query he had was making sure the replacement part is right. This was picked up when it went in for MOT (although it didn't cause it to fail its MOT) although I did raise the issue (as per http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/481817-when-accelerator-pedal-is-engaged) with the mechanic at the time. The garage has said that their molten metal in some areas around the differential. I don't have the full details as I couldn't answer the call as this has come second hand.

Rear Differential Replacement
Hi, Garage has told me that I need to replace the rear diff on my Skoda MK II 1.6 TDI 4x4 Estate. But I want to be clear on exactly which part that I need. Does anyone know how I would find the exact part number I need - I have contacted a SKODA garage but need this fixed as soon as possible. Thanks in advance. Jake

Grinding when accelerator pedal is enagaged
Okay thanks will definitely raise that at the garage. Ah I see, honestly I don't know the car only has partial service history but I will have a look - I am not sure if this is something that would be covered by a full service?

Grinding when accelerator pedal is enagaged
Thanks for the comment - Its got just under 110k. Yes the car is going in for full service - I mostly wanted an idea as to how much it might cost as to prevent the garage taking the mick. The Haldex is a good shout but , and I might be wrong here, it sits centrally between the rear wheels but the sound is distinctly coming from the rear left and I guess the same point stands for the rear differential also although I guess it is still good to get checked out regardless.

Grinding when accelerator pedal is enagaged
Thanks - yes only when power is engaged, the more power the louder the grinding and the faster the speed the higher frequency the grinding.

Grinding when accelerator pedal is enagaged
That was the original thought but it is only when the accelerator is engaged which makes me think it is something to do with the drive chain..

Grinding when accelerator pedal is enagaged
Hi new to forum, Just bought a 2012 Skoda Octavia Estate 1.6 TDI 4x4. When driving at speeds above 30mph there is grinding noise that comes from the rear left wheel; it’s a rotational grinding as the wheels turn but only when the accelerator pedal is engaged - the faster you go the higher frequency the grinding is and the more the accelerator is engaged the louder the sound is. Sounds like an issue with the drive chain but keen to get any thoughts. Thanks, Jake
