  1. Yes, since no sane person would decide to exclude the names, it must have been a mistake made during the update process. What is simply daft is Skoda's refusal to investigate and solve the problem.
  2. Here is the final response to my complaint to Skoda UK (no villages named on UK Map update) , quoted verbatim. I received this response this afternoon only in response to an email asking what progress had been made. "While I understand you are not happy with how the maps are designed I can advise that this is the map designed on all the new updates. This is not just for you and at this present moment of time I can advise that your comments will be passed back as feedback to the design team and to the 3rd party who design the software for the maps however I can not promise that this will change. I appreciate that this is not the outcome you was hoping for therefore if you wish to escalate anything further I would advise contacting the Motor Ombudsmen. Thank you for your patience." The first response was "In previous week we had a meeting with our map supplier and we are working on solution. Since we are getting so many complaints and our developers do not have that much time to fill out the forms to report the bugs, we will be implementing Map Creator to our Updateportal. So whenever there will be a problem with maps, our SKODA customers can go to this Map Creator and create the data that we are missing in the maps. We are now discussing on where and how we will display a button on which our customers will click and it will redirect them to the Map Creator. Once the Map Creator is active, we will let you know. SIMPLY DAFT?
  3. The update I downloaded from Skoda portal on 9th June was STD2_1310_EU1_201945. No villages. From VW portal on 29th July I got DiscoverMedia2_EU1_1410_V12. This also has no villages. I have now reverted to the map that came with the car in 2017. Also I have learned how to connect my android phone so that I can see the (much better and more up to date) Google maps on the Amundsen screen.
  4. I have Skoda Octavia Hatchback 2017 SE L DSG. Updated UK map for satnav is missing village names. Have found useful thread on this forum thanks. The village names are missing from all latest VW and Skoda maps.
  5. Who knows? I believe Here may well involved in producing the maps but Skoda Customer Services told me they (and VW) have a contract with Garmin to supply the maps and updates for built-in satnavs. According to Wikipedia, Here is owned by a consortium of German car manufacturers Audi, BMW and Daimler.
  6. I have now gone back to the previous version. VW/Skoda and their map supplier Garmin should be explaining what has gone wrong. So far my complaint to Skoda has resulted in a statement that soon customers will be able to add information to maps using a New map creator tool. Laughable incompetence and lack of commitment from top UK manager to whom I have written.
  7. The Skoda dealer checked my SD card in another car and looked at the map in one of their cars. They confirmed that the latest version of the UK map (ECE 1 2020-21) does not provide village place names. I was both relieved and annoyed to have this confirmation; relieved because the fault was not due to any error on my part or in downloading and unzipping the files; annoyed because Skoda UK, to whom I have reported this fault, did not take the trouble to have a look for themselves. The fault is also present on VW cars, because I tried downloading from their portal just in case. I do not understand why no other customers are complaining.
  8. I have tried reformating (fat32) and extracting the map files again with the same outcome. No UK village names. French village names are fine. Skoda customer services are clueless but have asked me to visit Skoda dealer to solve the problem.
  9. Many thanks. I didn't format the SD card, just deleted and replaced the map files. I'll try that. The Skoda portal doesn't say to reformat, but the instructions are hopeless anyway.
  10. I have found this very helpful and interesting thread (thank you to everyone) because I have had a problem updating the map for my Amundsen satnav in Skoda Octavia. I first copied the whole SD card to my Windows pc, downloaded ECE 1 2020 to the pc, unzipped and transferred ECE 1 2020, then tried loading it to the SD card. Got a message saying that there was no room on the SD card. Deleted contents of SD card. Transferred downloaded files to SD card and put SD card back in the Amundsen. It works fine except that the new UK map doesn't show any village or small town place names. Route finding works as well as before. France map show all village place names. Can someone who uses ECE 1 2020 tell me if they can see village place names please?
  11. I have just updated my map to ECE1 2020 and have the same problem: no village names in UK. Is there a solution please?
  12. Hi I've just joined the forum because although I am now on my second Octavia I have encountered a problem and am seeking help. Now I have to learn how the forum works and where to ask my question. Jehu44
