  1. Just to concudemy earlier post/rant - about 10 days after the "Christmas Lights" appeared on the dash, they went out and stayed out! It ws booked in for a replacement of the ABS unit or a sensor or both so I kept the appointment. The faults were still recorded, however, and the dealer replaced an abs sensor which cured the problem. The fact that the lights went out says to me that something had got wet and then dried out - it was a particularly wet day when the fault first occurred. Guess I'll never know but, touch wood, the problem had not reappeared in the last few weeks since the fix. So the cure for others' manifestation of the problem may not involve a complete replacement of the ABS unit. Perhaps. Fingers crossed!
  2. And another one! 07 VRS Diesel. ABS ESP & Tyre light all on at once the day after it was serviced! It has to go back in anyway for (another) new cruise control stalk to be fitted. We'll see what happens. Thankfully, this is a lease car so I'm not faced with the expensively painful plastic surgery of the previous posters (I sympathise and share their righteous indignation) but it's still a pain having to take it to hospital. Overall, I really like the car; mechanically the only gripe is having to top up the oil more than with any other car I have had - I've never touched a Mondeo's oil filler cap. Electrically, it seems that VW group has real problems: First they "forgot" to put in the wiring for the light assist. Then there is the "Windows-like" failure of the aircon to start. Switch off, wait and restart and it comes on again. The tyre pressure light seems to indicate that the tyre pressure light is on. I've never found a problem with the tyre! Two cruise control intermittent failures and now this collection of disco lights. The electrical/electronic systems of modern cars account for about 30% of the total cost so the component suppliers are screwed right down on price. It doesn't excuse Skoda from providing goods of acceptable quality and longevity. I've never had electrical problems with Vauxhalls or Fords and my £25 DVD player is still going strong after nearly 5 years - so it can be done. The lease is up in June. Will I go for another one? You do get a lot for your money and it is fun to drive but with age comes grumpiness and intolerance of little annoyances. Depending on the outcome of the latest diagnosis, I might just be @rsed to trawl the competition.
  3. Just been in to my dealer following a game with the DPF light which turns out to be a faulty exhaust sensor. They are expecting the new management software update "today" (why they have to wait for Postman Pat to bring it in this day and age is beyond me!). They told me that there was a recall for this fault and just replacing the sensor wouldn't fix the problem. They also said that there was no change of part number for the sensor. Could this indicate there is some fault in the engine management software which is lunching the sensor?
  4. Very interested in this thread, I have just been told by my dealer that my 2007 vrs with light assist was not fitted with the right loom in the factory so they couldn't get the light assist working. Stop, end, finish! In my experience, especially of German companies, they rarely differentiate between "it can't be done" and "I don't want (can't be bothered) to do it". Still somewhat surprised that the wrong loom was fitted since the dimming mirror, rain sensor and light assist come as one package on the vrs so why would they have a loom that only worked for 2 of the 3? Watching the guinea-piggery with interest!
  5. I had the light assist option ordered which is part of the auto dim mirror/ rain assist package. The car arrived with the standard light switch fitted (well nearly - it came out in my hand!). The dealer ordered and fitted the correct switch but in tunnel position the lights come on and stay on. Something wrong here! They did reprogramme the remote to remove the "press twice to unlock" and enable the "lock at 15kph". I need to chase the dealer up but I suspect the answer involves hooking up a laptop.
