  1. I think I'm getting used to it now. At least I can turn it off. I drove a Citroen Picasso auto for a couple of days at work. It's Stop/Start was very jerky and violent and I couldn't find the off button!
  2. Would have taken me ages to find that, so thank you. It seemed easier in the Mk2 Superbs, but now it's done I can forget about it
  3. Thanks Silverage. Maybe I'll get used to the Stop/Start thing in time. Not too fussed about the Apple CarPlay - will investigate with an open mind
  4. So, my 220 was delivered on Friday morning and since then I've done about 150 miles, so these are very initial impressions. So far, I'm very impressed with: - The comfort and the ride. Compared to the 220 vRS it's like driving on a pane of glass and it is sooooo much quieter. - The DSG box is really smooth, certainly compared to the 59 plate 170 TDI I had a while back. - Lots of space, again compared to the vRS Things I don't like: - The Stop/Start currently drives me a little mad. Everytime I draw to a stop the engine cuts, sometimes before I've actually stopped, so the steering loses a bit of its power assistance. Edging along in a queue is a right pain, so I have to turn the Stop/Start off. - Levels of condensation on the inside of the windscreen (and front windows) in the evenings after work. Appreciate that a temperature difference between the cabin and outside can develop at this time of year, but I often feel that turning on the demister actually deposits even more moisure on the windscreen. Anyone else notice this? Things I haven't got to grips with yet: - Perhaps related to the above. I can't quite work out how the Auto Hold thing works in relation to the Stop/Start. Can anyone advise? - Apple CarPlay. Haven't worked this out yet. I thought it might work through Bluetooth, but maybe I have to plug it in via USB. I am on iOS10.0.2 at the moment. - Saving the seat memory to my key. Need to sit down with the Manual again. All in all, very happy so far. Andy
  5. Super excited. Three month wait coming to an end next Friday (28th). Bog standard Business Grey SE-L estate with Modus wheels. Contemplated the 280, but with fuel prices so unstable and the higher octane stuff nearly 10p/l dearer, I decided to go with the 220. This will be our fifth Skoda, the previous ones being: Mk2 Octavia 140PD, Mk2 Superb 170TDI DSG, Mk2 170TDI DSG estate, Mk3 Octavia 220 vRS manual estate. The vRS has been my least favourite, so I'm hoping the new Superb will restore my faith. Really looking forward to it.
  6. Interesting comments. Not noticed the lights being lazy at all - just flashing and very slow to warm up. Booked in to the dealer on Monday. Will let you all know what they say.
  7. Hi all Been experiencing an intermittent fault on the near side bixenon bulb - occasionally it will flash when warming up, sometimes it won't light at all. Took it to the dealers who found the fault code and traced it to a "rusty earth". Trouble is, it's till doing it. Seems to me that it's more than just a rusty cable. It's going to have to go back again. Any thoughts, anyone? I'm used to bixenons having had two Superb Elegence estates and have noticed that both bulbs on the Octavia take a good minute to warm up and go very pink before eventually turning white/blue. Anyone experienced anything similar? I'm worried that this fault will reduce the life of the bulbs. Pink is not a good colour to see in bixenons. Cheers Slugboy
  8. Posted here back in March when I learned that Mr Eardley had retired and sold the business. Being the closest dealer to work it made good sense to use them and I always received good service from them. Since the change of hands all the old staff seem to have moved on and service is not as good. The icing on the cake came yesterday when the engine management light came on on the dash. The response from the Service Department at Eardley's was to ring Skoda Assist and ask them to recover me to another dealer, since they couldn't look at the car for another week. Not a lot of use I thought!! I spoke to Faintree directly afterwards and they looked at the car this morning at 8.30, the part is on order and wil be fitted on Friday - now that's what I call service :-)
  9. Learned last week that Mr Eardley retired in Jan and has sold the busines to a dealership based in Stoke. Could be SEAT, but don't quote me. Always received good customer service under whilst owned by Mr Eardley, so hopefully it will continue (recent issues with the Columbus unit aside).
  10. Hope not, Bill. Will let you know how I got on. Good luck with yours.
  11. Thanks, car back to the dealers on Friday. Third time lucky!!
  12. Well, that went well(ish). Turned up at the dealers one morning to get it swapped out for the new one, only to be told that they didn't have a CD with the maps/firmware on. Cue another trip to the dealers :-(. Eventually got the unit replaced and the good news is that they installed the 7 digit postcode firmware, which is great. The bad news is that: i) the navigation info no longer appears in the maxidot screen between the speedo and rev counter, and ii) I can no longer change radio stations using the up and down buttons on the left hand side of the steering wheel. Does anyone know if the above are things I'm going to have to sacrifice in lieu of the newer firmware? Thanks Andy
  13. Seems I'm lucky that it failed now and not after October. Hope I get all the latest firmware etc - sounds as though I might.
  14. Been experiencing an intermittent issue with the Colombus in my Superb. Basically, it fails to switch on, no sound, just a white screen which then goes black and then slowly becomes white again. It'll keep this cycle up for hours. Took it into the dealers today who tell me I need a new one. Glad it's still under warranty, but no indication from them as to what's gone wrong. Booked in for a replacement on Monday. Doe anyone know if the replacement is likely to come with the new firmware/map versions, including 7 digit postcode navigation? Would be great if it does. Cheers. Andy
  15. Thanks for the all the replies. Heading home shortly so will take a look at resetting it to start with and see how I go. Have the in laws staying at the moment so may be placed on entertainment duty :-(.
  16. Model number is NETGEAR WGR614v9 Standard router shipped by Virgin a couple of years ago. I'll look for the pin reset button in the morning - don't want to disturb the sleeping baby with all the rummaging I'll have to do. Don't mind if I lose the settings as I want to change the password, since last night it twice dropped the wi-fi to the extent that my MPB stopped recognising the network and I had to re-enter the WPA password - never happened before so just playing safe.
  17. Hi all I've done a stupid thing and lost the password to my Virgin cable router. Not the WPA code but the one you use to get access to all the software settings. I reset it from the default that the Virgin routers ship with and wrote it down somewhere safe - not safe enough, clearly. Is there some sort of "override" code to get access or do I have to buy a new router? Cheers Andy
  18. hpoom, I have had exactly the seat protector you linked to in the back of my Elegance for the past 12 months. First with one of these: My link and for the last six months, one of these: My link Have to say the car seat looks like new. Would have no problems recommending it. Andy
  19. Don't get me wrong here, folks, as I think they are great, but are the bi-xenons on the Superb as good as those on, say, a BMW, Merc or Mini? The approach of autumn/winter and the prospect of driving to and from work in the pitch black got me thinking about an observation I made during last winter. Whenever I pulled up next to another car with bi-xenons, or followed one down the road, the xenons on the other cars always seemed brighter/whiter than those on the Superb. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a difference in the quality/brightness of bi-xenons between manufacturers? If not, maybe I should get the dealer to look into it at the next service. As an aside, the lights don't seem to swivel like they are supposed to, whether set on Auto or On. Cheers. Andy
  20. Sorry for any confusion but no geometry check was done. Dealer said there was nothing visibly wrong that would cause the tyres to wear in the way that they have. They recommended visiting VW to get it done at a cost of £120. I've not done this yet, as I really wanted your thoughts as to whether the car could have come out of the factory with wonky alignment. Raf, your comments would suggest that this is a possibility. Two tyres and an alignment is going to cost £400 so if there's have a chance it might be covered under the warranty I'll take it. Just exploring options. Thanks for your input - much appreciated.
  21. Rear tyres are run at 2.3 bar which is hardly under inflated, but I agree that the figures do not reflect this. Maybe my tyre gauge is faulty. I guess I will now have to over inflate for a few miles to try and get some more miles out of them. Front tyre wear is just plain strange. Dealer tells me that the suspension looks fine and that "there is nothing hanging off". Could the car have come out of the factory badly set up? Lesson to self, fork out for regular wheel alignment checks, even on a new car!!
  22. Hi all Looking for some advice on uneven tyre wear (225/40 18s). Took it to the dealer today who looked at them under warranty. They agreed that they were not wearing evenly and suggested I take the car to the local VW dealer who has a full geometry machine at an approx cost of £120. The car has done just over the 20k miles on the original rear tyres (Sport Contact 2s) and second set on the front (Sport Contact 3s). Depth readings are as follows: outer middle inner Front right 3.6 3.5 3.8 Front left 4.5 4.0 3.5 Rear left 3.0 3.4 2.8 Rear right 2.9 3.8 3.1 Is this kind of wear normal and if not is it a warranty issue? I'm sure I read a thread some time ago where the poster claimed to have had a similar situation resolved under warranty - unfortunately I can't find it. Incidentally, I check tyre pressures every fortnight and follow the book figures. Any thoughts/comments greatly appreciated. Slugman.
  23. Thanks guys, will give them a go tonight. You'd think that Apple would make more of helping us PCers move over to Mac.
  24. I've had the same problem, but found that after doing a reset by taking the battery out for a few seconds it seemed to work again. Since doing this a couple of weeks ago I've had no trouble connecting. How do you find the Torch? As my first BB and a replacement to an iPhone I have so say that I quite like it so far. Andy
  25. Hi all Despite trawling the Apple support forums I am unable to find any clear instructions on how to transfer my iTunes library from Windows (Vista) to my new MBP. Having copied the iTunes folder onto an external hard drive do I just paste the contents of \user\Music\iTunes (it seems to contain the library plus artwork, apps, games and some iTunes db files) into the Music folder on the Mac? Surely it can't be that simple, can it? Any help gratefully received. Slugman
