  1. Thanks tried all that and nothing worked so it was a garage job for new valves. Cost me £30 for the 2 wheels so could have been worse!
  2. This stuff? https://www.screwfix.com/p/plusgas-formula-a-dismantling-lubricant-400ml/485ht (& thanks)
  3. Once they’re off it’s black plastic all the way!
  4. Thanks I’ve just tried that but didn’t work ☹️
  5. Help! My Octavia came (2nd hand) with metal valve caps with the Skoda logo on. Last week the tyre pressure warning came on as the car was heavily loaded. I pumped up the front tyres but cannot move the rear valve caps (even with pliers and WD40). I think they may have corroded onto the tyre valves. Can anyone recommend anything that might dissolve the corrosion or am I going to have to try the garage? thanks
  6. 😂 I go through phases where car gets detailed to the nth degree (on the outside - owning 2 Collies inside would be an exercise in futility!) and then don’t do much for a few months other than a quick wash. I do snow foam then 2 bucket wash, dry, polish & wax. Must admit I’ve not clayed on my Octavia. it’s just the scratches bugging me. Paint seems far more susceptible to marking than any other car I’ve owned. I’ll try the polish you’ve suggested. Thank you.
  7. I love my Octavia but it seems to have paint like a baby’s skin! Anything seems to leave faint but visible scratches eg foliage on a narrow country lane. I’m careful but sometimes it seems to mark if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction! None are deep but they are visible and I’d like to remove/ reduce where I can. I don’t have an electric polisher so what are the best products to use by hand please?
  8. I already have one for the van so can charge if needed. Difficult for me to trickle charge as no garage out side plug socket but can charge if needed. if it’s just a case of I need to drive it further and longer I can do that. I was concerned something was wrong and draining it. thanks all for the help and suggestions 🙂
  9. Lingers, thanks but I’m no where near that technical! Checking the oil and in an emergency changing a wheel is about my limit! I’ve unplugged the cam and will just plug it in when I’m going anywhere.
  10. Thanks nidza, that makes sense I guess. It’s the first car I’ve had with stop start and am doing mainly local miles. I assumed same as my van there’s be no issue with the battery unless the vehicle was stood for 2-3 weeks without moving.
  11. Yes it was - I’d forgotten about until I was sat in the looking through the manual to see if I’d missed anything. Would a dashcam that’s in almost stand by mode (ie screen off and not filming unless the car is knocked) draw enough power to flatten a car battery in a week though? Ecomatt, I’m still using the car for shopping or now we’re out of lockdown (I’m in Wales) for occasional longer trips to take the dogs to the beach so shouldn’t be necessary for a modern car. That’s why I’m thinking there’s something wrong somewhere (beginning to think it may be the tow bar from the comment above)
  12. Alarm works so would assume that’s ok (accidentally locked the car when I nipped into the shop with husband and dog in there - oops!). Dash cam is plugged into 12v socket and have unplugged that tonight. I have had a tow bar fitted but can’t remember if that was before or after the error message started.
  13. I’ve had my Octavia hatchback for about 5 months now and love it but I’ve an issue that’s concerning me. Just after it was out of warranty I got a battery needs charging warning. I’d not driven more than about 4 miles in 2 weeks because of lockdown but took it out for about 20 miles and no warning when I started the engine again. Following day warning is back. Again took it out and again fixed it. Left the car a few days and battery totally flat. Given car is 4 years old but had less than 25k on the clock I thought maybe it’s done lots of little trips so the battery was dead. Jump started car and took it to get the battery changed. Job done I thought. Fast forward 2 weeks and I’d not used the car for 4 days and got battery warning again 😡 So battery is definitely charging when I drive as message goes away for a few days but something must be draining the battery. I had something similar in my van and it turned out to be a tracker fitted previously (ex company vehicle). I’m not at all technical so if voltages etc need checking then I’m going to have to pay the garage and having forked out for a new battery plus Xmas fad approaching I’d prefer this to be the last resort. Are there any settings I need to check to make sure stuff isn’t turned on or is there anything that I’m not aware of that could be draining it? Any help gratefully received!
  14. First car I’ve owned for a long time that I’ve liked enough to be bothered doing myself! (Previous car was just a workhorse for commuting). Karcher Snowfoam (not great but used up so I had the bottle for other brands) Autoglym Polar Wash Turtle Wax Ceramic Polish & Wax
  15. Bought a new pressure washer so decided to give the car it’s first wash. Used Kärcher snow foam & shampoo that came with the washer (pretty useless) and Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic wet wax (initial impressions are it’s great). Happy with the beading and reflections
  16. 66 plate Octavia 150 SE L DSG owner for a week based in South Wales. First time I’ve had a Skoda and also first auto box. Driven a couple of hundred miles over the week and love it! Still find myself going to press the clutch in when slowing/ stopping but getting better lol. Very impressed with the fuel economy so far especially given I’ve been playing with both sport mode and acceleration (& it’s alleged my right foot can be heavy on an empty dry dual carriageway), but still getting 47mpg - which is virtually the same as I was getting out of my 1.6l diesel Hyundai i30! I’m not one to do many modifications, I’ve put on a rear seat cover (matches the paint colour) to protect them from the dogs and might get similar for the front (I’ve Dryrobe covers in my van which I love so may get the same) but that’s it!
  17. Picked her up this morning. I’ve only ever driven an auto about 15 years ago as a courtesy car for a few days so not having a clutch pedal is going to take some getting used to!
  18. It’s actual the 1.4l petrol. It’s a 66 plate with 30k on the clock (& I’ve updated my profile, thanks 🙂)
  19. Hi, I pick up my first Octavia on Sunday and can’t wait! It’s a 66 plate SE L TSI DSG in race blue metallic. I’ve a 120 mile round trip commute (when I’m back in the office anyway) but do like something with a bit of ummph when needed and with 2 dogs plus enjoying camping and caravanning the load carrying capacity is key. As I get older my cars are getting quicker 😉 Husband doesn’t drive so as long as it’s comfy he’s happy! Once I pick the car up I’m sure I’ll be searching to see if there are answers to any questions!
