Electric windows gone dead
thank you to all who replied. I have considered most of the options , putting a live direct to motor with a rocker switch and a small circuit to allow up/down operation , removing all existing electro mechanicals and replacing with a winder system , buying a scrapper of same colour and changing doors or just driving it the way it is . It has had all brakes and calipers wheel bearings etc renewed and still drives beautifully so I am loath to part with it for a car in unknown condition , so It look s like my last option will have to do pro tempore . This problem is the Rubic"s cube of vag motors .

Electric windows gone dead
this may be defeatist , but I am considering changing my electric windows to a manually operating system ; have an intermittent with the windows and the effort of continually checking etc has worn me down. Does anyone have experience of doing this , alternatively I may buy a banger with working windows .

voltage problems
hello again to all contributers . Just a final post to let members know I solved my problems , it was caused by an insulation piercing connector on the earth line to the towbar which had broken the wire , thank you to all who took the time to offer advice.

electrical ground
voltage is showing as about 12 volts , however I now believe this not to be the problem as i have festooned the car with additional earth wires to battery -ve and things revert to normal . I believe the voltage reading to be a floating voltage which did cause me much anguish. I now have to go round the earth points with copper grease , do you know where actual earth points for the rear lights is located?? thank you maccy this has been a good first visit for me.

voltage problems
new member , not sure about posting so any advice welcome . I have a reliable 1.9 tdi 2006 but it has developed an electrical fault where the tail light and indicators fail when the head lights are turned on . checked all fuses and cleaned and checked bulbs , during my investigation I found my ground voltage is 12+ volts and can deliver about 4 amps (backwards???) when engine (alternator) is off .I am now going to isolate the various circuits to try and isolate cause . voltage is present when key is removed so a suspect is the starter motor but I am presently flummoxed . any advice or sharing of similar experience would be appreciated . I should also note car seems ok when running but lights are not properly operational when marker /headlights are turned on , and this apparent short circuit is lurking in the shadows.
