  1. Notice the broken clip on the top picture, to the right side... that would be me
  2. Good answer... but I'm going to be getting it fitted somewhere. As above with fixing the chrome, I will break the clips or scratch the dash or something. Otherwise this would be my first port of call. Just wondering if anyone has ordered one historically and has the no. to hand. I did this on a mk1 Yaris about 10 years ago, when replacing a broken stereo...and lost a screw down the back, which rattled away for the rest of my ownership
  3. Hi All, Does anyone know the dash central vent part code for a 2016 VRS 230. I can see some lower spec models have a shiny grey between the chrome and vents rather than a shiny black, so just want to be looking out for the right one as a used item. They are £180 + VAT from a dealer in the UK (not inc fitting...and they won't give me the code...), so a bit much just to replace the chrome on my unit (previous owner used dash mounted air fresheners 😞). I want a replacement, so please don't go into detail about how to fix it with a wrap, chrome pen or paint... I will 100% make a hash of it lol. Cheers!
  4. Hi All, Firstly mods - this is a vw up! GTI post, hope that's ok! I'm hoping anyone with a citigo might have been through something similar and offer a solution... Please have a listen to the tapping noise in question on the below vid at 10, 18, 24, 30 and 43 seconds: https://youtu.be/afcx346ElxE The dealer has exhausted the time they are willing to spend on diagnosing (been in 4 times) and are calling it a body creak - it could be, but I don't think it sounds like that, it sounds like something tapping. They are now saying they will inject expanding foam to 'fix' the issue...which is just an attempt to sound deaden it, if it is even a body creak. This could also make other issues later on, if it traps water. I can reject it, but I've put a ceramic coating on it and otherwise love the car...that and the new car shortage. So far the car has had a new nearside shock and mount, it's been driven around with boot and doors open, they have had the bumper off to look. I had the car for a week with the trim off in the boot on the nearside, and it seems to be coming from the back of the boot, under the lid, down and left of the light - but it could obviously be thrown about. I took the light out to have a look and couldn't see/here anything amiss. You can't replicate the issue stationary. The car has reversing sensors and camera, which obviously have wiring harnesses and clips behind there. Anyway, let me know if you've experienced this - I've asked this on up owners forum, and two up Facebook groups so far, and there is on other owner who has the exact same noise, but not diagnosed it. Cheers, Judd
  5. Only read to about the second page, so someone might have mentioned it already. Did you replace the bolt when fitting the bushing? It's a stretch bolt, so a new one is required. Probably wouldn't have the effect you're mentioning - just something to consider.
  6. It's got 37k on it @ 4 years. Reason I'm concerned is I've had a Mk7 Golf with what I'm assuming is a very similar gearbox, linkage etc combination and it's a lot worse than that. I also drive like an old man until it's all up to temp. Driving enthusiastically actually makes the gear change a lot better, but not perfect.
  7. For reference, my answers to the above are: - vRS 230 pre facelift - Some movement in the stick (it wiggles a bit) - Very stiff/notchy 1-2 when cold - doesn't fully go away when warmed up. 2-3 slightly notchy. - Mechanical feeling into 2nd when cold, feels like I'm being pushed out of the gate. - Doesn't sound like grinding gears, any sound is short lived and the gear goes in - but there is an odd sound. - Haven't owned the car long enough (1k miles/1 month) - 1st and reverse are ok - sometimes problematic, but no more than other cars I've owned - Had an oil change with VAG oil, no difference - Haven't had it aligned, asking dealer to do that next month - will report back. - Haven't had synchros looked at.
  8. Seen a lot of threads on this, but would really like to encourage a consensus on what people should expect from the manual 6 speed gearbox on an Octavia, especially a vRS. I.e. what is fault and what is feature of the gearbox, so I and othere don't go to the dealer wanting them to fix design faults with the car itself. Questions are: - What MK3 6spd manual model do you have? - Do you have any loose movement in the stick in neutral or engaged (i.e. does it wiggle a bit)? - Do you have a stiff/overly notchy gear change from 1st into 2nd when cold? How about 2nd to 3rd? - Do you have any mechanical feeling through the stick into 2nd? - IF you do have a mechanical feeling, is it crunching gears OR something between the 'box and the stick on you opinion. - Has it got better or worse over time/miles? - How about going into 1st or reverse? - Have you had an oil change? IF so VAG oil or other? Any difference? - Have you had an alignment? Any difference? - Have you had synchros replaced? Any difference? Thanks to the people who replied on my other thread about this and the steering creak - I have reposted here as I think it was getting lost under replies to the steering creak issue and I had written about it at the bottom of the post. Mine is going into the dealer next month.
  9. Does anyone have any opinions on the 1st-2nd gear change as described in the original post?
  10. Had good experiences with silicone lubricant before (use WD-40 branded one) - usually silences most bushing noises (and belts), just doesn't last much more than a month or so. The other option is go for (and have in the cupboard) is lithium grease. Might have a go at the weekend.
  11. Might give this a go with some silicone spray and then try the Teflon spray if it doesn't work. I take it the Teflon spray is safe on rubber?
  12. They reckon it's the lower suspension arms, there's a rubber/metal bushing/bearing that's badly designed, with kidney shaped cutouts. The rubber on each side of the cutout rubs together and creaks. So they put grease in there - at the cost of 1-2 hours of labour and a wheel alignment. Seems over the top if it will come back once the grease goes, would love to know if anyone's had it done? If I can get the selling dealer to do it for free, then why not - rather not pay a couple of hundred just to get rid of a creak that's not doing any major harm.
  13. Wow - sorry for my terrible grammar! Won't let me edit the post, so hopefully you can decode what I'm on about!
  14. Hi All, I've got a few issue with my recently purchased Octavia vRS 230 pre-facelift... I've already solved a couple of problems with the help of briskoda's residents - so thanks muchly! So far, I've managed to get the dealer to fix the vibrating fuel lines, which they swore weren't a TPI on the Octavia, only on the Superb... turned out I was right and the helpful direction here (and on YouTube) showed me where to look. I also managed to polish out the scratches on the piano black trim with Megs UC and PlastX (Plast-RX in the UK)... worked a tread, but note that it's a bit easy to go to far and create a bit of a difference in sheen, either 'burning' the plastic or going too far through a lacquer if there is one. Looks much better than scratches though!! The remaining things are the 1st to 2nd change and the creaking steering. (1) Low speed (parking) steering creak both directs: I'm having the TPI 2042935/3 investigated by the dealer next month - but if there's anything else to be aware of... I got the replies of 'it's normal', 'it will go away with time' or 'we can't hear it'... until I got someone to actually admit it's there and could be fixed. (2) 1st-2nd shifting feels gross - more than notchy. I had a MK7 Golf before this, and it had a notchy change and a stiff 1-2, but no where near this. Been trying to find if this is the same 'box, but I can't seem to find out exactly. - I have already changed the gearbox oil (~37k miles, so to me just good maintenance anyway), with no change - It has a feeling of resistance into 2nd that if you just push past it scrapes against something (sound and feeling), but doesn't sound like crunching gears. - It feels like a very slow gear (I know that's not how it works, just how it feels to me) pushing back at you. If you rest it on the gate it almost pushes it out and pulls it into gear with very little pressure. - It happens when cold and takes a while to get better, but does smooth out almost completely if you drive hard (after engine up to temp obvs ) ... - ...it will come back in stop start traffic on the motorway, thought being it's cooling down standing still - I had the local dealer test it (not the selling dealer) and a technician with a 230 said yes it feels like there is more resistance, but didn't feel it was gearbox related. He said that it needed a linkage adjustment - which would have been my next port of call anyway... but as it goes away when warm, is this likely to make it better?? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
