  1. Can you explain what you mean by that mate? Not quite sure what it means. Apolgies
  2. Oh f***! I've got another quote around the same price from Northwest Clutch in Bury. Mr Clutch really that bad? The cheapest quote I've had is from a local. Around 240 inc VAT
  3. Thanks for that. Just had a quote for clutch kit supplied and fitted from Mr Clutch- £283. I've asked around a few places and that seems like the best price. Halfords Autocentre- £475. Few other local clutch mechanics-£330-370.
  4. Yes they are. The clutch definitely needs to be replaced

  6. I have just tried this. Revs at around 1700rpm in gear 5. Handbrake on. It took like a second to stall.
  7. I think the clutch is definitely on its way out as the car struggles to go up fairly steep hills in 3rd gear when accelerating pretty hard.
  8. It definitely is the clutch. What you've described there is basically my situation. Left the car parked overnight, started it today and couldn't smell anything. But towards the end of my drive when I was pulling up, the smell came back.
  9. Burnt clutch smell Last night my car was stuck in the mud whilst reversing. I made the mistake of high revs and trying to slowly release my clutch and before I knew it I could smell the clutch burning. The smell was f****** horrible. After I had gotten out of the mess I was in I knew I had caused a fair bit of damage to my clutch. The smell lingered on for a while especially when accelerating and I'd get a strong burning smell when the car is idle. Before this happened, every now and then i would find it difficult to get in to first gear and reverse, and it would take a few attempts to get it into gear. This has been happening for a while but it doesn't happen often where it gets irritating. Today, the smell of the burnt clutch came back after around an hour of driving. It wasn't as bad as yesterday but still very strong. I have took it on the motorway to see if the revs shoot up but the speed stays the same. That doesn't seem to happen and the revs are consistent with the increasing speed. I have tried to test my clutch by trying to see if it stalls in first. It doesn't stall in first if i gently release the clutch though when i abruptly release it, then the car does stall. How badly have i damaged my clutch and does it need replacing right away? Ps. I drive a Fabia 1.2htp
  10. I have a manual key for my car and I noticed that when opening the car door with key and only twisting it half of the way, the spasms would happen then. I have been fully twisting the key when locking/unlocking the car and haven't noticed the fault. I'm not sure if that's any help but it seems to have solved the issue for me. For now anyways.
  11. Ok sweet. MOT's due in Feb. Hopefully passes and then I'm gonna look to sell.
  12. @Wino wouldn't the timing chain have jumped for the valves to blow up? I'm just worried same thing will happen again. If the timing chain does go, I really am in trouble. I've got 6months warranty for any problems relating to the work that was done.
  13. Quick update if your interested. I took it to a local garage that specialises in engine repairs. As soon as he turned the car on and looked at the engine he straight away said that the valves in cylinder 1 have blown, so its a hefty repair. He's stripped the engine today and there was a big chunk that was missing from valve 1. Valve 2 was on it's way out and 3 was ok. So I've had to get that all changed. With new head gasket, full recon head, and full service. £600 for the everything. The mechanic before stripping the engine asked me if i wanted to get the timing chain done. I said to him when he strips it to have a look at it and let me know if there's any problems. So he did that. Gave me a call back and said there doesn't seem to be any visible problems with it but it's hard to tell with the timing chain. I chose not to get it as the total price would have gone to around £800 thats including the part, labour and VAT. Have I made a mistake in not getting the timing chain replaced? The car has done 93k and I don't think it has been changed as of yet. Car only has part service history so I don't know if it ever has been changed.
  14. Thanks for that. Hopefully it's not a big problem. But by the sounds it, it's not looking good. Will have to see tomorrow. Is this common on fabia engines? A mate of mine was saying old fabia engines are quick to go.
  15. Is there any way that the engine noise and rattling can be stopped even after changing spark plugs? It's only done 93k but the sounds it's making it seems like it's on the way out. Really put me in a difficult situation now.
  16. The mechanic did mention he is going to check spark plugs in the morning. What is compression testing? Apolgies i don't know much about cars. And it is the MK2 1.2 HTP 60 bhp model.
  17. Need help guys. My engine management light was flashing last night and soon after the car broke down. I had to get towed to the local garage to get it checked the next day. I've ran diagnostic check with OBD reader and it's came back as P0301 Engine Misfire in Cylinder #1. The mechanic just got round to looking at it and he said the coil packs may need replacing. So he changed the coil pack in cylinder 1. Coil has been changed but the engine management light is still flashing. When you start the engine it makes a very loud ticking noise and rattles/shakes very heavily. This has never happened before. Usually the engine is very quite and barely rattles. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is my engine going? The car has done 93k miles and I've only had it for 3months. I've done around 2.5-3k miles and Im currently working deliveries. The mechanic is going to take a proper look at it tomorrow and is going to let me know. But any help/thoughts now is appreciated.
  18. Don't have a clue what that means mate. Apolgies
  19. Anyone know what the issue is here and how it can be sorted? Every now and then when I open my car, the central locking has some sort of spasm trying to lock and unlock. Same thing happens randomly when I'm driving as well. Really annoying! 20201111_221035_1.mp4 I've attached a video so you can understand better. Any help is appreciated.
  20. Engine Management light came on yesterday randomly when I was driving and stayed on for the full day. Turned my car on in the morning today and the light has gone off. I've just checked for faults with an OBD reader and got a P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire. Shall I be worried? And what can I do? Thanks. (I drive a fabia 1.2htp 10reg)
  21. I'll try the vinegar method tomorrow. See how it goes. If Rain-X or something similar was applied by the previous owner, how long does it take for it wear off?
  22. Last time I took it for a wash was a month ago. And just last week I used glass cleaner that I had bought from Halfords
  23. Thing is, I know a few people that go to the same car wash including my dad and his isn't like that. About the vinegar, how would I apply? And do I do anything once its applied or just leave it. And what about the smell? How long will that last for. Don't want the car stinking of vinegar every time I walk towards it haha
