Cruise not working after stereo change
doolie replied to doolie's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
It was retrofit yes, one of the guys on here did it 3 years ago. Great job aswell, all was good until last week I'm going to take a closer look at the red cable, have put if off due to pain of getting stereo back in. No access to vag-com but they day is getting closer to me considering buying one Cheers -
As title really, I changed the standard stereo to an aftermarket Alpine (iPod control in the Octy at last). Straight swap, no problems with the K-Wire or whatever it's called, the one to the aerial amp anyway. So, checking my Cruise control afterwards and it doesn't work. I'm told the brake lights are working ok, does that rule out the brake switch? Any other ideas what it could be? I had a good faff around trying to get the new unit in, tight fit but with a little persuasion (and a removed glove box)..... Trying to think what could have caused it to stop working... only thing that stands out was I spotted a red cable spliced in with an inline fuse (10A I think) behind stereo, could this be related to the cruise? Any advice appreciated

indeed. ours has just been fixed (for the last time i hope). Last time the weights were added, this time i believe it was new pads, all under warranty

cheers, that's good to know, i'll have a look at mine over the next week and try some copper grease

not sorted here I'd stick with what you've got, trust me the noise when reversing is a whole lot more bearable than what you get after the counterbalance wieghts
-
that is pretty damn poor from skoda - we've had our Octy just under a couple of months and pretty much straight away spotted the moooing. In she went for the fix (which in itself took nearly a month to sort) and yup, we now have squealing brakes I can live with the issue (for now), it's only @ low speed going forward Still, to say that installing the counterbalance mod is not linked to the squealing is pure fantasy :thumbdwn: Ours started as soon as the mod was fitted

well i've been to the dealer and they've ordered the bits for the rear brakes (weights) - will be 7-10 days. Will post back with how i get on, though by the comments above, i;ll have squeaking brakes to look forward to :thumbdwn:

Hmmmm... we picked up a 2005 Octy vRS last week and i notice it has this Mooing when reversing and braking. I'm glad in a way that it's a known issue - am going to take the car back to the dealer and point them in the direction of these counter weights Car is still under manufacturers warranty and has only done 8000 miles
