I'm an electronic and IT engineer, and a keen musician, currently active in two bands that play original music. (Let me know if you're interested in learning more about these!)
I've driven Passat estates for many years, but when my last one died during lockdown, I had to find a replacement quickly. I found an old and battered 2005 Octavia 1.6 FSI estate going cheap. It had been in the wars: scarred and worn, but it was a runner, and was Clean Air Zone compliant! So I took it on, and it's been a handy vehicle during the COVID period, while we weren't making long journeys.
However, I could never get used to the petrol engine and 5-speed gearbox (compared to the effortless driving of my old 2 litre diesel 6-speed), and the fuel consumption was high. It needed too much work to get through the next MOT, so I've traded it in for my current 2015 diesel 4x4 model. This is still only 1.6 litre, but already I'm enjoying the better torque and acceleration it gives. I'm hoping for better fuel economy too. Time will tell. . .
