  1. Took it to the dealer, they said, oops, sounds like we didn't switch it to variable servicing. Plugged it in and sorted it in the matter of minutes. Cheers Rick
  2. He said it was set to variable and " I'll see you in 2 years!!" But it does seem fishy that the car is exactly 12 months old in 17 days Rick
  3. Hi Guys, sorry if this has been covered but my VRS has just told me I need a service in 2900 miles or 17 days. Which is it? I've only done 7685 miles in the 12 months I've had it, so do I get it booked in for next week (when I'm off work anyway) or do I wait for the miles to rack up? Cheers in advance Rick
  4. Sadder than logging on, on Christmas Day is that I don't think I've actually used my back windows yet!!! and I got the car in April! Cheers, Merry Christmas Rick
  5. I think the reason is that you only need to light the side of the car which is sticking out into the road. So dpending which side you have the car parked on, or which country you are in, you select which side you want to illuminate. If a skip or a piece of plant equipment is on the highway, they only put lanterns on the side stuck in the road. (mostly) Cheers Rick
  6. I own both, a Civic 1.8 EX Vtec and my Octy Vrs. The boot on the civic IS very big for a hatchback, the seats fold flat really easily (and latch up like cinema seats to load lots of stuff in) I like the styling personally and I like gimmicks and and stuff so I got the top of the range with sat-nav (which is very good) and reversing camera cos the view out the back IS crap. I prefer the Vrs mainly because the ride is softer (the civic is as stiff as my old westfield) and because it's faster, although the civic is no slouch. The problems with the Civic have been sorted under warranty but they were only: Noisy rear dampers (changed) Fuel cap didn't always open (sorted with new linkage) It's a matter of taste really I do prefer the Vrs over the Civic but each to their own. By the way I paid just under 18K for each car so price isn't an issue in choosing really. Cheers Rick
  7. Had it twice on different cars, both times it was the exhaust gas sensor which had gone faulty, better get it checked at the dealer. Cheers Rick
  8. I have noticed a drop in power when the compressor is running in AUTO, but put it in ECON and the car feels much faster. I noticed the same on my SEAT Ibiza 130TDi. My last car (mazda RX-8) has the ECU set to drop off the compressor when you put your foot flat to the floor, to not lose any power when you really wanted it. I wonder whether there's a VAGCOM setting you could use to produce the same effect? Well if Mazda can do it...... Rick
  9. Mine flashes if I press the lock button once. But I always press it twice for deadlock now and the LED stays lit but doesn't flash. Related?? Cheers Rick
  10. It's in the convienence settings menu (somewhere)
  11. No problem, if you read about the manufacturing process on their website, they pride themselves on good quality materials. Hopefully get them fitted by weekend and post up some pics. Cheers Rick
  12. Went to the dealer and he advised me to use OE sunshades (who supply Skoda with the shades apparently) They E-mailed me back with this attachment. All rear windows including the back one for 2005 octavia estate.pdf
  13. You can also enable it through Maxi-Dot, if you have it, but the beep is only faint, which is fine for me to be honest. Rick
  14. I was rung by my dealer 2 weeks ago to say the Dual zone/ jumbo pack that I'd paid for was now going to be free! He was a bit miffed due to the fact I'd haggled hard. I asked him if I'd get the alloy upgrade but he said I wasn't eligible due to the fact I hadn't ordred them in the 1st place (fair enough) I ordered on the 21st of March. It was a nice suprise anyway!
  15. 11am I should be the proud owner of my car, we'll see what happens about the Light Assist issue, lets just hope the sun stays out till I at least get it. will report back when the wife prises my hands away from the steering wheel:thumbup:
  16. The wife's car, a new Honda Civic 1.8 Vtec Ex drank 1.5 litres in 6000 miles, dealer said this was normal, it must be modern engines these days. Mind you, it's not half as bad as my last car:- Mazda RX-8, that took about a litre every 1100 miles, but that's supposed to happen with a rotary. Still, it's good to get in touch with Simon (Oilman) to keep you in good supply. He's VERY popular with the RX-8 guys!!! Cheers Rick
  17. I had a similar problem with a SEAT Ibiza a couple of years back, not an Octavia I know but they are related. It happened to me a few times and then one morning the battery was completely dead. It turned out to be the power steering, which was drawing 70Amps from the battery for some reason. The car kept shutting systems down (clock, dials etc) to keep the steering happy. The steering unit was changed under warranty and all was well. Don't know whether yours has a similar problem, but I'd get it booked in and checked out soon. Cheers Rick
  18. I think I might work on some kind of deal with him, I do fancy a full set of sunshades for the rear windows and estate windows!! Thanks for the replies Rick
  19. Just popped down to my dealer to hand him the insurance certificate and my car is there sat in the showroom!!!! So it was a good time to check it over. I went for the MaxiDot extra and the display is there, but are you supposed to get steering wheel controls? or can all the functions still be utilised just with the stalk buttons? The 'wheel doesn't have any controls on it, is this normal? Also it hasn't come with light assist as part of the auto dim mirror and rain sensor pack. The salesman doesn't seem to know why, but thinks it might be to do with having xenons fitted. Anyone got any clues?? Thanks in advance.
  20. Thanks for the info, I'll make a decision when I pick it up.
  21. Has anyone had the sunshades fitted that are available as a dealer fit option? I was contemplating either having the windows tinted (legal style) or getting the sunshades for the back windows and the estate windows. I suppose the benefit of the sunshades is that you can remove them if you want. Anyone got them??
  22. Quattro 4WD system and a DSG gearbox on the VRs:D Then again yesterday I was visiting an Audi dealer who had an A3 Sportback S-line Quattro 2.0TFSi in the showroom and it was just under
  23. I think they might be to do with european speed limits in town/rural areas?
