  1. Further to a problem I had listed before with my Octavia: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/269871-start-problem-battery-drain/ I seem to have narrowed down the problem. It appears that I am having a problem with a secondary Air Pump (06A 959 253 E) or (06A 131 333 C) I checked a few dealers and I'm getting a price of €473 + VAT to replace it. This is more then I can afford so I was wondering if anyone new of any dealers in the UK or Ireland that can supply the part at a much cheaper price then that. On one of the sites I checked it gave the following information With mine, the pump seems to just come on at random (when the engine is off) and this is then draining the battery. I don't want to replace the pump only to find that its not the problem at all. Alan
  2. Well, just to give you an update. The car was running fine up until this morning. I went out to start it and it was completely dead, not a pip out of it. It got a new battery 2 months ago and my mechanic said he found a short in the system and he fixed it. So the question is, why is the problem back. Going to take it to a skoda dealer to see if they can find the issue.
  3. UPDATE: I had the battery replaced yesterday evening (€80.00) Car started and I got it home. I came out this morning to go to work and absolutely nothing out of it. Its like the car's computer is taking a hissy fit as to when it wants to work. When I opened the driver door (by the key) there was a fast clicking coming from the dashboard but there was no lights on at all. Can't figure this problem out.
  4. Once the problem stops the car starts fine and running fine. Its just that something is running under the bonnet when its off and I think that's what's causing the problem. Sometimes when I disconnect the battery for a half an hour then reconnect it the spinning sound came back on before I even tried to start it.
  5. The car is 2007 with the original battery and 47k on the clock.
  6. I'm hoping someone can help with this problem Over the post couple of days I've had a problem with my car where it would not start, not even a click when you turn the key or a light when you turn the lights on. Its as if there is no battery connected what so ever. The first time this happened I opened the bonnet and noticed a wurrring sound coming from a black box at the front of the engine. I disconnected the battery and the sound stopped. I left it off for about 30 minutes and reconnected the lead and the sound did not come back. I then put jump leads on it from another car and left it like that for about 10 minutes. The car started on the first turn of the key. It seems that something is running after I turn the car off and walk away. It could be the altenator but I'm not sure. I feel my only option (until I get to a garage) is to disconnect the battery every night until this problem is fixed. I'm at my wits end with this problem now, has anyone got any idea as to what is causing this problem and why parts are still working even though the car is off and the key is out????
  7. Can this be done by me or would the mechanic need to do it.
  8. Car Details: Model: Skoda Octavia Engine: 1.6 8v MPI AUTO Engine Model: BSE Last week I got the engine managment light on my dash. I took the Car to a Garage and he told me it was an oxygen sensor that had gone. He told me it would be about €250.00 to replace the sensor. Unfortunately I don't have that sort of money right now to get it fixed. All I know is that the sensor is a 5 wire sensor and it has to be ordered in. Just a couple of questions on this issue: First, if I don't get it done for a couple of weeks can this cause bigger problems to the car. Second, where is the cheapest place I can get this sensor or am I looking at this about of money to get it fixed. The chap is an al-right guy so I don't think he is over charging. He said it has to come from Skoda as you can't get the part anywhere else. Finaly, is this a common problem with this Engine model?? Thanks in advance for your help.
  9. Just been on to Phoenix Motors about getting Cruise control retro fitted to my Octavia Auto. They gave me a price of €210.00 and about one hour to complete the job. Is this a good price for such a job!!! I had regretted getting this fitted when I ordered the car. Now the wife is paying for it as a Christmas present.
  10. I have to look at a few of the options available here. I completely forgot about the sticky pad that comes with the device. I just might have a permanent solution there!!!
  11. Worth a try. It would be great if someone invented a bracket so the satnav pops up when you open the lid. Not asking for much am I
  12. no pin required On the Octavia they are the easiest thing in the world to adjust. You move them with your hand.
  13. I had them on a Renault Scenic (and other cars) and I absolutely hated them. They never work the way they should. When I got my Octavia last year I was asked do I want sensor wipers. The chap was a little surprised when I told him I would rather stick hot needles in my eyes. The standard wipers are much better, and easer to control.
  14. Hi Folks, I was just wondering if there was a bracket or fitting that you could put in the top dashboard box that would hold a Garmin Satnav. I tried out my satnav in the top box and it looks great there. Had to prop it up a bit but it stayed in place and was very easy to use in this position. It keeps the windscreen clear and you just close the box when you want to hide the SatNav or when you are getting out. I have included an image to explain what I mean. I have had it like this for weeks and I love it there. I just need an easer way to keep it in place.
  15. My car reads avg 20-25 KL/pl (all metric here in Ireland ) I have a 1.6 MPi automatic or as my brother calls it MP red I I found that if I put standard unleaded in say from tesco's I don't get as much out of it. So now I only put Shell Premium Unleaded in and the tank seems to empty a little slower. On the up side you get a great kick out of it when you put your foot down.
