  1. I'm just in the process of replacing my electric struts with gas struts. I've disconnected the wiring which leads to the struts inside the rear panels, the locking mechanism works ok so I'm now going to remove the cabling completely but I'm trying to sources oval blanking grommets to seal the holes. the ebay sizes don't seem to match the holes which are 17mm x 24mm. Does anyone know a good source for said gommets please? If I can't get the grommets I'll try to ad-hoc a couple out of old cycle inner tube and supper glue. My regards
  2. I collected the car today from the Volks Shop. It was the Ballast Module - the price of the part = £270.52 + VAT With labour bill total with 20% VAT = £433.82
  3. Thanks Guys. My VIN # is - TMBKF73T7B9018662
  4. Hi, I'm tyring to find the paint code for my metallic grey Superb. According to the paint supplier it should be a four figur number. I've looked on the lable in the boot and in the service manual I had with the car but nothing looks anything like it and I can't interpret the language, to see if anything mentions paint. The V5 document just says Silver. Any ideas please?
  5. Hi chimaera, Thankfully the VOLKS SHOP I'm taking it to on Friday is all kitted out to do diagnostic checks so he's likly to be doing that. I've dealt with the guy in the past, when I had a VW Sharan, and he's very knowledgeable and won't charge for work he doesn't do. Anyway, once this latest problem is sorted I'll be parting company with the car and I'm unlikely to buy another Skoda, I think I'll be going with Kia or Hyundai., possibly Ford. Regards
  6. I recently had my near side low beam light pack in. I took it to a local jobbing car repairer who swapped the bulb...£45!!. That didn't work and they were at a loss what it could be, I was advised to take it to a Skoda dealership but to expect a bill for around £1000!! as it probably involved accessing the Ballast module, etc.. Anyway today I contacted my local Volks Shop, who also do Skoda's. He also advised me that it could involve removing the front bumper and if it is a module a replacement could cost £250!!. He's quoted me a ball park figure of £450 to do the work, after I'd stopped crying I agreed to take it on Friday. But he did say that a lot of after market bulbs are dodgy so it still might just be the bulb....fingers crossed.
  7. Hi, My electric struts have stopped working again. The last time I just gave them a good soaking in WD40 and they worked again, This time they haven't, so I'm throwing in the towel and going to swap to gas struts. I've watched a couple of how-to guides on the net but none of them show how to release the sockets from the balls , mine seem to have a metal wire clip which looks as if it has to be prised out the release them, none of the how-to guides show this type of clip. I'm just wondering if anyone of you learned colleagues may be able to point the way please? My regards.
  8. Thanks JR, it seems that by luck I got the correct one.
  9. Forgive my ignorance, or stupidity, for not asking this question here first. I bought a brake wind in tool from eBay, when it arrived it said "Right Handed", which wasn't indicated in the eBay details. So, which handed do I need for the brakes on my Superb 2? Thanks in advance.
  10. I've driven automatics for years, even when people considered me eccentric to do so, but the DSG box is brilliant, best one I've owned....it's a pity about the tailgate and leaky panoramic roof though.
  11. Sorry to extend this problem again. I've read on the forum that the electric struts can be replaced with gas struts. I'm assuming the gas struts don't open the tailgate as the electric struts do, in which case I have no problem now with lifting the gate manually, albeit it is heavy, I don't think my wife could do it. So, what's the advantage of gas struts? Also is it possible that a single electric strut failing this would stop the tailgate lifting? Thanks in advance.
