  1. Thank you. Useful info, especially the not touching the batteries.
  2. UPDATE So, new r2025’s ordered via EBay, no choice at the moment.... but I also blagged a couple of batteries of a spurious make from a neighbour. Installed these, and still no flashing red light on the fob, actually it did flash just the once and then refused to,after that. So, back in with my ‘new’ Duracell’s and bingo, one of the fobs now has the flashing red light and locks and unlocks the car without any recyncronising required. Go figure....? The spare fob still refuses to work. I will see what the next batch of batteries does. i realise there may be an issue with my battery installing method, but I fail to see how you could get it wrong.
  3. I fully suspect the ‘new’ batteries are duff. Pretty sure I have installed them right. Oddly I have the same issue when trying to replace r2032 batteries in weigh scales and a Thermapen that I use for beer brewing. Despite the packaging claiming long use by dates maybe there is some skullduggery going on with EBay battery suppliers...? maybe I might try Panasonic as opposed to Duracell....?
  4. Thanks for the reply. No red light on either fob, which suggests the ‘new’ batteries are duff. That said, surely the dash screen would flash up as ‘low key fob battery’, which prompted me to change them in the first place. I have had a quick look on YouTube and followed the instructions re pressing a button on the fob and opening the car with the key, and then turning on the ignition and then off, to no effect. the ‘Safelock’ point I mention earlier may well be just a standard notification and nothing to do with the issue.... Again, any pointers welcomed.
  5. Ok, thanks for that, found it. However, after following the handbook instructions to ‘press any button on the fob and unlock the door within one minute, has failed to make any difference. if I turn on the ignition and then turn it off, the display tells me to ‘check Safelock, owners manual’. I have read the appropriate section but damned if I understand it ! Any pointers anybody ?
  6. Hi folks, I guess this may have been covered but I can’t find the thread.... I have changed the batteries in both key fobs and now neither will operate the remote central locking. Having done some web research I can’t seem to find a conclusive answer. The (generic Octavia) ) manual doesn’t shed any light , suggesting I place the key in the lock barrel and press the lock button on the remote. My car doesn’t have any lock barrels or manual locking !!! I have tried sitting in the car with the ignition on and pressing the lock button, as suggested, to no avail. The ‘new’ Duracell 2025 batteries fitted showed a sell by date of nearly ten years. I have thrown the old ones away unfortunately so no ‘control’. I have ordered some more just to check the batteries are not at fault, cheap, enough. Also, we live on the Isle of Skye and very rarely need to lock the car, so wondering if it may need recoding? Any help gratefull received. Our nearest dealer is a two hundred mile round trip, and not advised under current climate.... Thanks
  7. Agreed. We bought our 2012 Octavia new with Bridgestone touranza (?) fitted. We then fitted the Michelin’s and were amazed at the difference, especially the lack of road noise. Very impressive for all season tyres. We have Goodyear Vectors fitted to the Roomster and they are good too. Usually some good offers on both at ‘Black Circles’ if you buy four at once.
  8. Of course, ‘ride quality’ is so subjective. My initial post that my 2012 4x4 was infinitely better than the Scout . It was on Michelin Cross Climate tyres so I may try these next on the Scout. In truth, I won’t be rushing to change the car anytime soon, but when I do I will be doing more test drives. The Superb is on the ‘list’, but they are huge, and there is only two of us and the dog.
  9. Thank you. That answers my question very well. I will likely put up with it for a while until I either get used to it, or buy a later model...
  10. And did you notice any appreciable difference in ride comfort ?
  11. Indeed. Easy enough to find a ‘tyre size converter’ on the web. Apparently you can go to plus or minus 2% . So changing from 225/50/17 tyres I have a few options but my choice would be 215/60/16 , which gives me near enough the same speedo reading (iirc). I had a pal sat along side me with his Garmin sat nav measuring my true speed. At an indicated 70mph my actual speed was nearer 66mph. I am pretty sure manufacturers calibrate their Speedos deliberately optimistic, and certainly not the other way... for obvious reasons.
  12. Thank you for the input folks. Interesting to hear the mk4 version rides much better and the difference in rim diameters. I will see how I get on before I spend on new wheels or a new car !
  13. Thanks for the speedy reply. Current tyres are Pirelli P7’s , ‘V’ rated. If I do change the wheels I will fit all season tyres, Michelin Cross Climate or Goodyear Vector. I have used these before and really rate them. I will look in the for sale section. Thank you.
  14. Hi, Recently exchanged my 2012 4x4 2.0 TDI estate for a 2016 Scout DSG . The ride quality on my old Octavia was superb running on 195/65/15 tyres. I wish I could say the same for the Scout. I find it way too firm on its 225/50/17 tyres. Not quite ‘crashy’, just way to firm for our potholed Skye single track roads. I am considering dropping to 16” wheels and fitting 215/60/16 tyres in an effort to improve the ride quality. Llias or Star wheels potentially. Before I spend over a thousand pounds on new wheels and tyres, has anybody gone down this route, or have any considered opinions on the matter ? Thanks.
