Superb vs 5 series
Paid the deposit for a 2017 520d touring with some nice toys, including the Harman/Kardon sound, a towbar and M sport Plus pack. Going to the dealership to pick it up this weekend, so unless there's something really wrong with it, that's my decision made. Thanks all for the good insight, really helped a lot!

Superb vs 5 series
Yep, checked the V60 and V90, they're both good premium cars. I've only sat in a V90 about 4 years ago and it did feel very plush inside. From what videos I watched it seemed the gearbox is a bit laggy, plus I'm not a big fan of the portrait infotainment, but other than that, it's a good choice. Definitely on my list, especially if I manage to find a good mileage D5 or T5 V90 with the Bowers&Wilkins sound system

Superb vs 5 series
I had a look at some A6 Avant, while I like the exterior, the interior looks really dated (for the pre-2018). The newer ones are a bit out of my budget and I'd rather go for a well specced Skoda than a poverty spec A6. 5 series is quite easy to find within the budget, but I'll have to test a well specced Superb to see the differences.

Superb vs 5 series
Just for a quick comparison, here are two similarly priced examples: 520d: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202105062270629?atmobcid=soc4 Superb: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202106153858648?atmobcid=soc4 The BMW comes at £360 pcm and the Skoda at £350 pcm, both with 4 year PCP, £2k deposit and 8k miles a year. Arguably, the Skoda is much newer and less miles, plus it’s a petrol vs the diesel in the bimmer, but they’re quite matched in specs. The major advantage in the Superb is the space, I’m 6’5 and in the 5 series sitting behind me is quite impossible, whereas in the Skoda I could sit myself behind my driver’s seat. decisions, decisions…

Superb vs 5 series
I'm in the process of finding the next car, coming from a 2008 320d estate. I want something with good space and comfort, with a decent sound system and a reliable, yet punchy engine. I've narrowed it down to either a post 2017 Superb, or a post 2017 BMW 5 series. They're on similar money on a PCP deal, with similar age and mileage, but the BMW does have the edge in terms of driving experience and refinement. I've driven both a Superb (a rental 1.5 TSI manual hatch, about a year ago) and a 5 series (the 520d xDrive, yesterday). While I know the engines are not comparable, I did enjoy elements of both cars. The Skoda felt less planted on the road, leaning and bouncing, while the BMW felt nice and grippy. I felt a huge difference in the sound insulation, with the BMW being much more silent despite its diesel 4 pot engine. However, the Superb was much more spacious. If I'd go for a Superb, I'd probably choose the Sportline or an L&K with the DCC, with either a 2 litre petrol or diesel. The BMW on the other hand I'd pick with Msport trim and either a 2 litre diesel or petrol. I only do about 8k miles a year, but they are primarily made of motorway runs, with very rare city driving in London. So my questions are: How does the 2 litre diesel engine (the 190ps) in the Superb compare with the BMW one? How do they compare when taking into account the gearboxes (the 7 speed DSG in the Skoda and the 8 speed auto in the BMW)? Is the 2.0 petrol more suitable for the Superb? While I'd like to go for the 272, I can hardly find one with Canton and in the budget, so it would be the 190. How's the general driving between these cars with the engines mentioned above? How's the reliability? Any known issues for these 2 litre engines in the two cars? I intend to test drive a Superb as well, but 15-20 minutes isn't too long too form a good enough impression, so I'd appreciate any views on this.

Sportline 280 vs 220 vs 190
That's a good point, it's hard to balance all the options you want and yet get under the higher tax band. For me the audio system is one of the top criteria and to get a Volvo with a Bowers&Wilkins AND petrol engine at a reasonable price is quite impossible. While the B&W on the Volvo can't be directly compared to the Canton, the rest of the package isn't far off the Superb. I found some pretty good PCP deals for 190s with Canton and sunroof, which are two of my main preferences. Does yours have DCC and if not, do you feel the car is too floaty?

Sportline 280 vs 220 vs 190
This is what I've been thinking, I'm probably doing about the same miles as you, so I would definitely trade 10 mpg for a much punchier and exciting, yet practical Superb. Have you had any issues with tyres wearing faster or unevenly?

Sportline 280 vs 220 vs 190
Amazing, no wonder why Skoda is one of the most reliable brands. I'm also living in London and I'm fed up with the speed bumps, which I think a Superb would handle relatively well. That mileage isn't far off of what I've seen in my 2008 320d, with a mix of city and motorway driving, which honestly is quite lame for a 2.0 diesel. I'm very tempted by the 280, but also mindful that it's possibly more suitable for the autobahn where you can properly stretch its legs. On our motorways though, I'd imagine the 220 is good enough. How's the road noise with the all season tyres?

Sportline 280 vs 220 vs 190
The 320D was the most exciting practical car I could get in my (very low!) budget. Ended up being a money pit, as it was expected for 130k+ miles, but now I'm ready to get into something much newer and relatively sensible. I'm very tempted by the 280, but I'm not a fan of the 6 speed box and the higher RPM on the motorway. 272 is a bit of a stretch, especially considering I'm not willing to compromise on the Canton, which not many used cars have. This is why I'm debating between a newer 190/220 with all I want and an older decently specced 280. I'm planning to go for some premium tyres anyways, given how thin they are.

Sportline 280 vs 220 vs 190
Hi all, today I just sold my old BMW 320d and I’m looking for a replacement. As not many cars offer such good value for money, I would be tempted to get a Superb. As alternatives I’ve considered a C class estate, an A4 Avant and potentially a Volvo, but it’s hard to find the right spec at the right price. So back to the Superb, I’ve seen a few nice cars for sale, but I’m not decided on the engine yet. I clearly want a petrol as I’m only doing about 8-10k miles a year. The 272 or the new 280 is out of the budget, so I’d consider the old 280, the 220 or the newer 190. I’ve read the entire thread on the 280 vs 220 and the general impression I got was that the 220 tends to wheelspin a lot, but in general city driving they’re the similar. Does the 190 have the same issue and does it feel underpowered compare to the 220? I haven’t seen any complaints from Audi or VW owners with the same engine, so wondering if the applies to the Superb. Which is the engine to go with out of these?
