Shock absorbers leaking
Thanks Crasher for the Skoda take on reality. Our 20 plate 18k Karoq had it's first MOT at our local garage this week. One advisory was 'Oil mist' on both front shocks. The warranty expires in a couple of weeks, so I went to the local Skoda dealer for an explanation. They followed the party line and told me there's a separate area above the hydraulics which contains a 'sacrificial oil' section designed to lubricate the chromed shaft, and then washed the car for me. Local MOT guy showed me the government manual which says 'Misting' is not a fail but he has changed an awful lot of Karoq shocks. I bet next year Skoda will happily change both shocks at an unbelievable price. Afterthoughts: 1. What happens when the 'sacrificial oil' is gone? 2. How long will replacement VW shocks remain oil tight? 3. Do Koni do replacements? 4. Why does my 59 plate 47k Micra not have oily shocks?

20 Plate Karoq. Retrofit heated windscreen.
Our much loved Yeti had a heated screen. Unfortunately our less loved Karoq has not but it has a small crack in it. I'm wondering if I could get the screen replaced, under the insurance cover, with a heated one. I'm sure I'd have to pay more and get a switch for it, assuming that the loom will have the requisite connectors. Any thoughts, has anyone done this?

Admunsun sat nav UK towns and village names missing on screen
Thanks Frank, just saved me £29.00. I don't understand why Skoda don't fix this.

NEW SKODA MIB2 V14 Navigation SD Card Octavia Yeti Kodiaq Karoq Rapid 2021 -2022 is available. Can anyone confirm that this shows town and village names.

Further to the discussion on lights. Is it true that Amundsen detects your arrival in mainland Europe and sets the lights accordingly?

Oil Specs
Wow, two very interesting responses. Thanks guys. CJJE, we pay a heavy price for so called fuel economy. The Auto Stop/Start requires a super duper battery which my mate had to replace twice due to an unknown fault. Needless to say, he chopped the car in and let the car dealer carry the can when he sold it. xman, I bet my local Skoda dealer (not the one I got it from) would balk at resetting to Q16 and charge me well for the privilege if he did it. I will call some local VW specialists tho'. Cheers.

Oil Specs
I can't believe that my 1 year old Karoq 1.5 SE DSG with 4,200 miles on the clock needs it's oil changed every 12 months. I thought that the whole point of synthetic oil was to extend the service period of a vehicle. My dealer insists that the oil will deteriorate over 12 months and, apparently, as it's got '2 cylinder mode' it has to have VW 508 0/20 OEM spec. This does not seem very 'GREEN' to me. Now, I'm sure that all the old oil gets recycled and resold at £60 - £70 a pop. Too much 'tail wagging the dog', but I guess they have to recoup the cost of their emissions **** up.

Admunsun sat nav UK towns and village names missing on screen
Traded our 64 Plate Yeti for a 20 plate Karoq because we could not update the map (but had town and village names). Just hope that the next Amundsen update is more useful and does not have the seemingly random info dotted all over the place. What a **** up. Or was it a tantrum over being caught out with the emissions stunt?

LED Lights
Our 64 plate Skoda Yeti never showed signs of condensation in the lights. I assumed the Karoq had the same incredible lights as the Yeti. Perhaps the condensation problem has been overcome and is no longer a problem in the newer cars. I have just got to the bit in the Karoq manual that covers condensation so thanks to Scot5 for the heads up.

LED Lights
Well OK folks perhaps I over reacted. I bought the car online from a Skoda dealer and it was delivered yesterday on a 20 plate. I noticed the misting as he pulled up. I've started reading the manual but not got to the bit you mentioned. Have contacted them with my fears, not heard back yet, but your response has quelled my fears a little. Traded a Yeti which had been brilliant so was a bit jittery. Glad I posted tho' and thanks for your response. Watching a guy removing and dismantling a BMW M3 light unit with the ballast unit literally dripping water was scary stuff.

I guess the water in the lens refracts the light.

LED Lights
They're great, until they mist up. Mist/condensation confuses the 'auto setup' when they are switched on, which could lead to really dangerous bright lights dazzling oncoming traffic, MOT failure and electrical problems. There are several Youtube videos covering this topic. Not a cheap fix!
