  1. Does anyone know where I can hire a Skoda Octavia for about 10 days? Most places let you book only a general type of car, i.e., 'medium family car' but you don't find out which model until you pick up the car . I'm prepared to pay extra to ensure I get an Octavia but where to find one? Cheers
  2. Can anyone offer a rough book price for private sale for the following? Skoda Octavia II hatchback, black, standard alloys, 57 plate, 1.9 TDi Elegance, 125,000 miles, very good condition but not perfect as you'd expect for a 6 year old car... Cheers
  3. Thanks to Mac for his guide, all done now, very neat cut off line with kick up... see pics....
  4. Thanks Mac, I've pm'd you with my email address. You can post pictures by attaching them in the message editor, then adding them to your post. The number and size of photos is quite limited doing that, otherwise you have to upload the picture onto a website such as photobucket or similar and then attach a link by clicking on the message editing symbol that attempts to look like a framed picture of a tree, just below the smiley face symbol. Easy when you know how, but tricky to explain. Hope to have a go at the headlamps when I get home tomorrow night.
  5. I'm going to France next week and need to sort out my headlamps. I was under the impression it would be easy to flatten the left kick in the beam but comparing this thread http://www.briskoda....ts#entry2867266 to the headlights on my 07 Octavia shows little resemblance. it doesn't look there are any levers at all in my headlights to adjust the kick. Can anyone help please as I don't really want to use those crappy stickers... This pic is what mine looks like inside...
  6. I want to remove my front grill but on inspection it seems I may end up breaking some of the plastic conical shaped clips that hold it in place. Is this likely to happen or do they pop out and still work? Also I seem to remember someone saying the bottom lip in double sided sticky tape. If I rip it off how straightforward is it to reattach the grill?
  7. I did 240 miles the other day on a clear motorway at 70mph and the computer said 68mpg. Admittedly it is a 1.9TDi 105h but still very good. When I filled up last night I'd done 707 miles exactly since filling up last and had about 40 miles range left. Calculating the real consumption for the tank came out at an average of 60.1mpg. I love my Ocy!
  8. Thanks for the heads up guys, cut it in 4 and it fits I discovered!
  9. Does anyone know if a standard sheet of ply 2440mm x 1220mm fits in a Octy hatch?! Thanks very much, haven't got a tape measure or the ply with me to measure...
  10. Might be naff but its practical, suits my satnav needs and avoids suction mounts falling off and wobbling around!
  11. Yes that's right but be sure to order the correct holder which will have a different part number from the one I used. There are various ones depending on the thickness of the case on your phone. You will need to measure the dimensions of the case on your phone first.
  12. I recently fitted a Brodit hands-free mount for my iPhone in my Octy II. There weren't many pictures or reviews online to help me decide so I thought I'd post some here for others... I ordered the parts separately from eBay and Amazon to minimise cost but both bits arrived in original Brodit packaging. I decided on the centre mount just above the radio console. The ProClip was even easier to fit than I thought. I didn't take the cover off the sticky pad that would keep it in place because there are small lips that prevent it from slipping out without using the small plastic tool provided to widen the gap in the dash trim. The next step was less than straightforward. The instructions simply said "Place the attaching plate onto the desired position. Screw the attaching plate into place with the enclosed screws". Well the screws didn't seem to go in very well. It was very easy to over tighten them. One screw quickly became loose. In the end I took the ProClip back off the dash and retired to my garage. I used a vice while I very carefully drilled tiny pilot holes. Having driven the screws almost fully in I removed them, cleaned away the plastic shavings and put a tiny dap of super glue in each hole then put the whole thing together again and re-mounted it in the car. I was happy with it once installed. It is a quality product and the phone slides very nicely into place with a snug fit due to the soft fabric finish of the holder. It is all very secure and sturdy. The swivel is smooth and easy to position and can be rotated 360 degrees left or right to position the phone in portrait or landscape mode. In portrait position the power cable trails naturally down the edge of the centre console and won't get in the way at all. For me the cost saving over the permanently powered holder is well worth it as its not much hassle to plug in the phone everytime given that I will won't be mounting my phone for short drives or the commute unless I need satnav. I like the position of the phone as it doesn't block any of the windscreen but its not too far down to look at for directions, plus it remains easily accessible to the front seat passenger. If you don't like suction holders I'd thoroughly recommend this setup if you don't mind spending the money. I paid about £35 for the bits. For those that are interested, part numbers I used are: ProClip 653525 and Passive holder with tilt swivel 511422.
  13. I managed to strip the internal thread on a locked wheel nut on my Octy yesterday. I've been looking at a few options for removing said nut but am unsure yet which to try. One method is to hammer on a socket but that's a one shot method and I risk making the problem worse. I also found this in Halfords: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_196491_langId_-1_categoryId_255216 but the shop says it can only be used with an air gun, which I don't have, but why can does it not work manually? Any other suggestions pls?
